UN: Scarletdevil (Video)

It has been some time since I first introduced myself and no doubt many newcomers have been brought to this world since I did so. So, for those who do not know me, I am the lady Remilia Scarlet, noble and vampire. Do not worry, I have no intention of attacking you for your blood, though if there is anyone who might be willing to offer theirs, I would not be adverse. However, it is not to seek my next meal that I speak today. Rather, it is curiosity. Before I found myself here, I was living in a place with only a small human population. Yet, this world's population seems rather lopsided in favor of humanity. I am aware not everyone here is saddled with mortality, and I have spoken to those who were clearly not human, but it seems to be only a small percentage.

And that is why my curiosity has prompted me to reach out. I wish to know with who, and what for that matter, I share this world with, and by this I mean I wish to know who among is something other than a human. If you do not wish to talk about it, so be it. This is something I ask out of boredom, not any particular need to know. But I would ever so appreciate a brief reprieve from my boredom.

Pretty bold of you to be out here saying you're up for blood donors though is that normal where you're from?

Back home I was well known, procuring the blood I need was not an issue. But you say you are a rabbit? We had those back home, perhaps there is more familiar here than I had suspected.

I am The Knight.

My siblings and I look like insects. But we are not true insects. We are made of Void.

Your name is 'The Knight'? Or is this merely a title, Mr. Insect?

It is both. My title and my name. Most just call me Knight.

My elder sibling is the Hollow Knight. My sister is Hornet. My other siblings have no names.

Not having a name must make things rather confusing for them, I should imagine. There was nothing like you where I came from, most everyone looked similar to a human, only with little differences. How wonderfully curious. I must admit to further curiosity though, about what you meant by 'void'. I will not try to force you to explain, but if you do not mind, I would be interested in it.

It was not meant to matter. Father had no use for us, so he threw us away, save for Hornet and the Hollow Knight.

The Void is nothing, but it has infinite potential to be something. Father had the will and power to mold it, so he used his children to create vessels from it that would contain the mightiest of forces. A being that could imprison anything within its mind and dreams. With the Void's empty nature, he believed it could even prevent his enemy from attacking the vessel from within, for there would be nothing to strike at.

Where I'm from you kind of have to go through different channels. Get a burner cellphone or something. But I wouldn't know about how to get blood because I'm just a herbivore.

But yeah, I'm a rabbit. I'm pretty common where I'm from too. We have vampire bats, but they don't look anything like you.

Have a familiar face.

"HELLO MISS BATS!"

[A sabertoothed, canine face appears onscreen, with the camera apparently being held by someone else. Bork bork pant.]

I don't know about vampires... But my husband and I are jinba. Or... "centaurs"? More people seem to call us that...

[And the award for most unexpected response goes to the little green thing. Her eyes narrow.]

You are here as well? The little satori? Curious. I suppose I will not ask how I did not notice before.

[She sounds like she is TRYING to be polite at least. But her voice and that look on her face do not seem to really match up.]

I have never seen such a thing. And you say you are not a rarity in your home? There are rabbits walking around, talking and acting like the humans of my world do? Interesting. But I am no bat. Vampire bats are named for we vampires, not the other way around.

[There's a soft laugh.]

Being an herbivore hardly prevents you from knowing where to get blood. You are full of it, after all.

[While she did not expect to be listening to the story of some manner of insect creature when she'd first asked her question, she at least seems to be listening with actual interest.]

I see, I see. Well, somewhat. I must admit the concept feels a little foreign to me. But it sounds to me like some sort of magical material. If you are created from it, does this make you and your siblings some manner of homunculi?

...Did someone let their pet touch their communications device?

[If not, this is a bit less human than she had expected!]

I have never heard of a 'jinba' but centaurs I have. I was not aware they actually existed. I think, perhaps, your kind does not in my world.

Yes. Or golems. I have been compared to both by people here.

I do not know if there are others like us here.

I don’t think vampires do in mine, so I guess we’re even?

It’s just jinba and humans where I’m from. Mostly humans.

I imagine you to be rather unique, so it is unlikely there are others. I have run across few of my own kind, and some not even aware of what vampires are at all. Still, you seem capable of thinking on your own, so I would not class you as a mere construct. Still, that name does not help. Have you ever considered taking another?

Humans being the majority is standard in my world as well. I have noticed it seemed to be that way for many worlds, which was why I decided to ask to begin with. It is not that I dislike humans, although they do tend to be frail and short-lived. I was merely curious.

They’re not as strong as jinba, sure, but I don’t think they have short lives... I mean, not compared to Jinba. My boss said they probably live a little longer...

[There is a little bit of surprise in the vampire's voice.]

Truly? I suppose it is all a matter of perspective. Human lives seem short to me. I do not know if your kind tells time like humans, so this may mean nothing to you, but I have been around for more then five centuries now. Humans do not tend to even live a single one.

Ah... five centuries is a really long time, yeah...

[Maybe it was perspective, sure, but. Five centuries!]

That’s like... so many generations. I don’t know for sure about jinba now that I think about it... I know the stories, but. There aren’t many elders around.

To me, it is merely one generation. I have never brought another of my kind into the world and I am uncertain I ever will. I do have a darling sibling, but she has not come to this world with me, unfortunately. Other than her, I have no family of my own. I suppose that would make me the 'elder' of the Scarlet family.

[A sigh.]

I must say though, the worst part of living so long is the boredom. It is an ever present part of my life. Speaking with something I did not know even existed is perhaps the high point of my evening.

Does it really get boring... ?

[Spoken as only a mortal could, perhaps, but-]

There’s so many things out there I might do if I had all that time... or, well, maybe I’d still have to just work cause I still have to eat, but. You must know so many things... and meet so many people! Right?

Eventually, yes. It becomes boring. On my home world I have amassed the sort of wealth that would make most humans envious. I live in a mansion lacking for nothing I want. I have the finest of finery. I have so many books even I have not come close to reading even half of them. If I had to say, I may have read one out of every ten.

My point is, when I have all of this, what comes next? While I cannot claim I approve of being brought here against my will, the fact that so little is how I know it makes this world remarkably interesting. For the first time in decades, I am surrounded in things I neither know or understand. New experiences are precious gems to me, and they are not rare here. I am having one now. I had never heard the word jinba. I had no reason to believe centaurs were real. But I have learned something.

But allow me to ask, if you will, exactly who I am talking to. You said both you and your husband are jinba?

[Theoretical thinking isn’t Konoha’s strong point, but she does make an effort to imagine how it would be to live so long that you got everything you wanted. Wouldn’t she find new things to want? Apparently, but she’d just... run out of things?

She feels simple, thinking that she’d surely never get tired of a new food or a place, but if there weren’t any more?]

Sorry for doubting... I guess you would know best! It’s just really hard for me to imagine.

[But she says that learning about Jinba was interesting, and if that’s the case-]

Mm, we are. You can ask anything you want!

"Yeah! I'm here! I'm living in a house with humans. They're very nice. And I met a nice robot too! And some nice warriors. And a nice man in a big coat." This didn't explain anything.

"And now I met you too! Again! It's nice to see you Miss Bats!"

You need not worry, I am not offended. I understand it is probably difficult to comprehend. It may even sound foolish. In all honesty, I wish I was merely wrong. But enough of that. I do not even know your name. I, of course, have already introduced myself, but I do not wish to continue merely thinking of you as jinba.

But on top of that, I know absolutely nothing of your kind. There is nothing you can tell me that would not be new. Do you live as families? Do you have houses? Did you even know what I meant when I mentioned a mansion? The stories told of what we call centaurs do not paint them in a flattering light, but your mannerisms do not seem to match them.

I..have no idea what you are talking about, other than the humans. There are robots here? And a man in a coat tells me nothing, anyone could wear a big coat. Even me!

[Though fashion would never allow her to wear something goofy looking.]

Your list does not seem to include your sister. Is she not here to look after you?

[That may explain why she is living with 'nice humans'.]

Konoha! My name is Konoha!

Ah, where to start... Um, well, we definitely aren’t like those... Greek centaurs? If that’s what you’ve heard about. I don’t think anyway.

My boss, she knows so much about jinba, she said that we used to live in the mountains and the forests by ourselves in small herds with a few families... and she said humans used to think we were kind of like gods! But that was a really long time ago... more than five hundred years probably.

"Ah..." Koishi seemed to hesitate. Her expression didn't change all that much but her eyes did dim significantly. "Sis isn't here right now. She's probably at home which is good because there are lots of animals there. She has to take care of them. I'll be fine."

Clearly she missed Satori.

"Is the nice vampire with the chimes here with you? I really like her." Clearly she was talking about Flan.

[Not many would refer to the younger Scarlet sister as nice. It said a lot about Koishi's mindset that she said it without any hesitation at all.]

You mean my sister? She is not. I do hope she is fending well without me. I expect to go home and find my mansion to be little more than rubble.

[A frown.]

Have you been in this world long?

[She is not overly concerned, but as long as she's holding casual conversation she may as well keep it up. Maybe the little green thing could come in useful someday.]

Konoha. An easily remembered name, and pleasant to the ears. It sounds somewhat Asian influenced. I assume you would know where that is? If you know what Greece is, it only follows your world would have other places similiar to my own, yes?

I would not lot the Greek stories bother you. If one were to believe what the humans say about we vampires, I could be any number of things. A bloodthirsty monster, a wily seductresss, or anything in between. What matters most is the truth. I have never been praised as a diety, however, so I suppose your kind has that much on me! I have, however, met a few. They left me unimpressed were I to be honest.

Still, what little you know of your kind's past is more than I have for my own. I think, perhaps, that has something to do with why I was so determined to acquire the wealth that I did. I had nothing before...but listen to me, I am supposed to be asking about you and I have already turned the topic to myself.

"Yeah! She's super nice. I really like playing with her. Sometimes I go down and bring her sweets!" It was mildly concerning that Koishi just... went into the basement whenever she wanted. Then again, with Flandre's powers, its not like the lock actually DID anything...

"Umm... Awhile. I dunno. I'm bad at keeping track of time." She looked thoughtful. "I fought a big plant monster when I got here! It made me itchy."

I only know what "Greece" is because people here told me that's where they heard about centaurs from. But you're still right, I guess- I'm from Japan. Just not the Japan most people here know, I guess... It's the sixth year of Genna for me, and my Japan has jinba in it...

Do you not know a lot of vampire history? I was raised by humans, but I know things thanks to my boss. She's a jinba, and she's real smart- She even knows about before the wars, like the gods thing.

Never really thought about the history of why vampire bats are called vampire bats, to be honest. I always thought it WAS the other way around.

[who knows WHAT kind of folklore exists in furry!world.]

And yeah, all animals where I'm from are like me. I mean, not everyone's a rabbit. There are wolves, deer, lions, tigers, bears...nobody like the animals I've seen here. And none of these human animals, either.

And as a herbivore I am fully aware of how much blood I have in my body, thanks.

No other name would fit. I am The Knight. That is who I am.
