[Edward's been seeing all of these different posts come up. It's obnoxious to him, but he can see the potential of being able to communicate with so many like this, so he decided to give it a try.]

It's come to my attention that there's a few people here who use "magic." From what I've seen, there's nothing like it where I come from and I have a few questions for anyone who's willing to answer.

In science, you've got different laws that everything follows. Is that the same for magic? Does some magic have laws while others don't?

Are there different fields of magic? What are they?

Where does the energy or power come from?

What makes it "magic" and not a field of science?

Floating things, talking to animals, explosions, spraying acid, having a dark spirit reside in your torso, creating any item you want out of your body.

I don't think there's a limit. Quirks get weirder as people evolve.

Some of those thing sound pretty magical to me, but I'm far from an expert on this kind of stuff.

When you say they get weirder as people evolve, do you mean that they're tied to genetics somehow?

Usually. Guess it depends. They don't always pass down the same way, either.

Genetics always seemed kind of finicky to me, but I'm an alchemist, not a geneticist.

Mind telling me what your 'quirk' is?

it's not a secret, but he's not going to dump all of it on a network when he doesn't know who he's talking to. ]

My body can generate ice. My mom can, too.

That sounds pretty cool. I know a certain guy from my world who could benefit from having someone who can generate ice around.

[Like maybe freezing his gloves in a shall of ice. Ed would pay to see that.]

Why were you asking?

For the reasons I stated before. I'm from a place where this kind of stuff doesn't exist. I want to try to familiarize myself with it since it looks like a lot of people here use magic and other powers. At the very least, I'll have an idea of what I'm dealing with here. At best, maybe I can apply some of this knowledge to my own alchemy or something.

Why? Is something bugging you about it?

No. I just wanted to be sure.

You're a scientist?

[milkisgross]

Yeah. I'm an alchemist.

[halfburned]

What do you specifically do with alchemy?

[milkisgross]

I mostly just use it to augment my fighting style. I'll transmute my automail (it's a metal prosthetic) or a weapon from the ground or something. I can transmute the ground and other parts of the environment to give me an advantage too.

That's just what I do though. There are plenty of alchemists who use it to fix stuff that's broken down and the like.

Yeah.

[As convenient as texting is, it's more difficult to get his tone across.]

It's all about redirecting energy an applying it to change the shape or chemical composition of whatever you're transmuting.

It sounds like something out of a manga.

You say that like the stuff you told me about isn't like it's from a comic book.

Lots of people were inspired by them at the start. There's still vigilantes around.

You don't say?

[Oh no. Don't be putting ideas into his head! There is absolutely no one who could possibly profit from Ed trying his hand at being a vigilante.]

Sounds like that would make a big mess for the law enforcement of your world to deal with.
