If they would have lived otherwise then yes, it was a weakness. Clinging to something and trying to protect it is just a glaring weak spot that will only get exploited, and trying to delude yourself into thinking otherwise is just going to be worse in the end.

I've never had the luxury of living in such a delusion and I'm not interested in starting.
