so i've been stuck inside because i don't know if i'm allergic to bees, and i'm DEFINITELY allergic to giant ants, and also i'm pretty sure half of my friends have vanished.
not trying to whine or anything. i mean, that's sort of how life is after getting space dimension kidnapped?
like, don't get me wrong, i WANT to whine. but it's happened before. and unless we find a way to change that it'll keep happening.
so i guess... if you recognize me just say something?
just so i know you're still here.

anyway.

i've got three days left as a teen, life sucks, and i've still got a few bottles of the drinks from last place i was at.
i want to make bad decisions. give me stupid ideas
like... are there clubs around here? can anyone recommend one?
i've never been clubbing. and i kind of feel like there might be a time limit on that??

screw it. who wants to get fucked up and go clubbing

[He has to stifle a laugh when he sees how in awe of everything she is. Ramen's completely mundane to him, and this is only a little exciting given the foxes have their own little quirks and distinctions that differentiate their way of life from Japan's. Still, he grins.]

I know you're a devil, but can you really eat that much? I know I could.

Mmmmaybe? Oh my god. I don't know?? I've never tried to! [ she babbles excitedly as she rereads the menu, biting a lip and trying to decide on how stupid she wants to be today. ] I've only been a devil for like. Two years?? So I still haven't tried out everything yet. I know I don't really need much, but.

[ wait. this place has alcohol?? oh my god. oh my god. ]

Oh my gosh Akira if we do get a lot can we also get some. Uh. [ she squints. ] House sake??

[ she pronounces it exactly as you'd expect - like "keepsake." never change, venus. ]

Really? Because on my first day I was eating like a horse--

[He's cut off by her excitement about alcohol, and he bursts out laughing.] Sa-ke.

[...He's technically underage, but saying that right now might make him sound a little lame?? Plus he's already admitted to clubbing, so maybe she thinks he's older than he actually is. Oh well.]

Yeah, we can try some if you want some. You got enough chroma if we split the bill?

Oh, uh. I sort of assumed I was paying for all of this? So, I mean... yeah, absolutely. Let's do it.

[ something strikes venus as off about what akira says, even if it doesn't immediately register. even if it had, she'd still take a moment to mull it over. so she spends another few seconds looking at the menu, asking dumb questions - "is the egg hardboiled," and "wait does seaweed actually taste good," things like that - and watching akira from a dozen eyes at once.

when it's finally clicked, and when her curious gaze is too obvious to ignore, she finally revisits the topic. ]

...hey. What did you mean, "your first day?"

[Akira had been edging around the topic, so to realise what he'd accidentally blurted out in the excitement of the moment is. Uh. He scratches the back of his neck and looks away sheepishly.]

The first day I became a Devilman. I said we weren't that different, and I meant it.

Oh.

[ oh. ]

Oh. [ she whispers, and then- ] Oh my god? Oh my god, you too! We're both-

[ her hands literally come up to cover her mouth. good job, akira - for once, you're not the first person in the room that looks like they're about to cry! ]

H-hey...

[He doesn't know what to do about a reaction like that, and is alarmed about making her cry, so he reaches forward to... pat her on the shoulder? There, there.]

[ she reaches up and grabs akira's hand. and now that her mouth is free again, it should be clear: those tears welling up in her eyes are the happiest goddamn tears imaginable. ]

You're literally the first devil my age I've seen in over a year. Like, there were five or six of us back in Duplicity, but now it's just me and Grimm? And- and Grimm's great, don't get me wrong, but he's kind of more of a dad that doesn't suck, not- you know, someone who gets it, and- and now you!

[ there is just. an unashamed, unabashed adoration in her eyes. all like two hundred of them. ]

Wait, was it summer camp for you too? Sorry, that's not too personal, right?

Uh--

[Akira seems a little overwhelmed, and, unsurprisingly, his eyes begin to well with sympathetic tears of his own.]

It was the club I talked about. We went to a Sabbath party, and it happened there.

[ it doesn't immediately sink in, what he's saying. she's too busy smiling, and giggling, and thinking about how nice it is to finally have someone else that gets it. but her brain halts on "sabbath party," and it's that little pause that finally sinks in. at a club. the club he'd been to. he'd said people had been hurt, right? a lot of them. and that means...

the smile fades away on her face, even if her eyes stay misty. after a moment, she reaches up and wipes at them. ]

Crap. I'm sorry, I didn't... [ think about it? yeah. obviously. ] Should I change the subject?

It's okay. I gained the power to protect people, so it wasn't all that bad.

[Some people were saved because of his actions, or so Ryo had said. Akira really doesn't remember it much either way.]

We should go ahead and order first. [It's rude to just sit here and talk, after all.] Still want to try everything?

[The place is a lot nicer than he'd expected. Fortunately, he's tried to work hard to bury his grief under makeup and clothes, his woolish hair bound tight in a thick braid, but nothing he can do to deal with his horns except accentuate them with beads. Dressing up feels empty, but it's also the closest he's felt to normal in awhile.

Once he's inside, he genuinely has no idea who to look for, but the draconic looking lady might be a good start.]

Venus? [Well, if he's wrong, so be it.]

[ he's not wrong, not even slightly. she's been watching abbacchio since he came in, curiosity and interest clear across her face, and when he finally asks if she's venus - well, looks like this is all the confirmation she needed. ]

Yeah! Heck yeah. That's me, alright. [ she's wearing a warm, almost confident smile. maybe that's because of sanguis in the sky. or the clothes she's wearing. or maybe it's because of the half-empty pink martini glass in front of her. ] It's cool to meet you in person. Abbacchio, right?

[ against all odds, miraculously, she doesn't completely mangle it. he's probably heard better, though. ]

One and only.

[He settles himself down next to her, but he does at least have enough manners to offer his hand. Otherwise, he's definitely ordering some wine, and telling the keep to leave the bottle. Hell knows he needs it.]

How's being a dragon treating you? Been one once. Okay experience I guess.

It's better than being a snake, at least. Even if I'd rather just be a devil.

[ as is, she still has some degree of hand-adjacent limb. so she offers it to abbacchio, palm down, no firmness in her wrist. she's not sure whether that's what he's going for, or whether he wants a handshake?? but like fuck if she's giving out handshakes right now. she's a lady, and also a dragon, and ALSO the devil and all three of those are things that mean she does whatever the hell she wants. she's pretty sure, at least. ]

You look a lot more... put-together? Than I thought you would. [ a beat. ] Not an insult. And I didn't think you'd look bad either. It's just kind of nice knowing that I didn't overdress.

Unfortunately, that isn't up to us. You're a furry when they damned well please.

[Alas, Abbacchio isn't polite enough to kiss the back of her hand, but he does treat it delicately, a small modest lift and a nod of his head. She is, after all, indeed a lady.]

Gotta compensate for my shitty personality somehow. [He says it like it's not a joke, and he probably means it that way.] You look good yourself. Honestly, I wasn't expecting such a nice place.

[ like fuck if she's gonna complain about that. good enough for her! she takes a sip of her drink - honestly, she's just grateful she still has enough of a hand to hold it - and only screws up her face a little as she responds. ]

Hm, I really need to keep it in mind where you were at last. It's understandable you'd pick a place like this. I'd probably have lost my shit if I was in that city you were in before.

[He pauses so he can have a long sip from his glass. It's nice, probably more expensive than he should be spending his money on. Work does all right to fill in the gaps, but he hasn't properly moonlaced in awhile.]

Does that make Lunatia basically a cakewalk for you?

Honestly? It gets kind of boring, sometimes. [ it's weird to admit, but it's not like she's fully sober. besides, she's already told him some, right? what's the harm in a little more? ] Going from wondering if you were going to die, looking for some way to do something, to just... sitting around, waiting for the next moons or the next weird thing to happen. It feels wrong. Like I should be doing something.

[ she should be doing something. she takes another sip, then another, gulping down half the glass with an almost masochistic relish. she clanks it down, staring at the remaining lemon peel before speaking again. ]

This place is... It's stagnant. That's the word. [ she leans forward, the warmth beginning to spread in her belly. ] Mind if I try that? I asked them to put it on my tab anyway.

Boring, huh. [Not that he takes any offense to it, but he'd still take it in comparison to some things he himself has experienced. But he can understand a bit where she's coming from, too.]

It does kind of feel like the state of the city returns to the status quo, huh. [He daintily holds out the glass to Venus.] Here, give it a try. Wine doesn't seem like it'll fuck you up, but it can if it tastes as light as this.

Maybe boring's not the right word. Stagnant works better anyway. But it's definitely that. [ she takes the glass gingerly, taking a respectfully-sized sip...

...and actually taking a moment to consider it. holy shit. ] That doesn't even taste alcoholic?? What the fuck. Is this magic? Are you like. A witch?

You're probably right. I wonder if Heaven's any different.

[The reaction makes him cackle for a moment, grinning at Venus for a moment.] C'mon, you make it sound like you've hardly had any booze before. This is the nice shit.

[ now, that gets a reaction out of her: a long raspberry, tongue between her lips as she makes the most immature, concise "fuck god" she possibly can manage right now. ]

Yeah, it is, because Heaven's actually boring. No more alcohol, or fighting, or fucking, just singing God's perfect praises unto eternity. [ another sip. she at least has the propriety to not swig it - if something doesn't taste like complete garbage, she's willing to acknowledge it's probably worth pacing yourself on. ] God. Has anyone told you you have good taste? I should be asking for lessons.

[ okay, that's good. she's just... gonna push the glass back, very gently. ]

[He barks out a laugh at the reaction.]

Well, fuck that, then. Maybe I ended up in limbo instead of Hell or Heaven. Who's to say, though. At least there was wine when I was there for a minute.

[The glass is taken back and he has another long drink, like he desperately needs it.]

I know I've got good taste. But it doesn't hurt to hear it. I think around here, they've also got something really close to plum wine. It's actually pretty sweet, too. Doesn't hit you until you're almost done with your glass.

i mean i cant really imagine what that was like but i get finding someone special in a terrible place
but i'm also really lucky because she wound up here with me
