I understand that there are some among us who have died back in whatever world they may have come from.

As a point of morbid curiosity, what are we supposing happens to those like that when they're removed from this world? Do they simply cease to exist?

What else would happen? If they were dead, they'll go back to being dead and whatever that means for them.

Death is meaningless to some.

If it were me, I'd just go on as rogue data, aimless until I found a new body to inhabit.

I guess for humans, it must be different.

For others, it is probable they have nothing to return to.

I mean, maybe meaningless isn't the right word. I'd say it's free of consequences to your life at home. After all, there's still meaning to people here.

A good amount of people can be, if they're in the right mood for it; morbid senses of humor tended to run high among the last group of people I was affiliated with.

I like it as much as anyone else does, I imagine. I certainly don't seem to like it any less. If I had to wake up anywhere, I don't know if I would have chosen here, but it's surprisingly not terrible.

Until those people leave here and don't remember them ever having happened, or we leave here and likely never see them again under these circumstances.

I'm sure they will. At the same time, it seems more than somewhat pointless to me for this world to bother circumventing all of that for the sole purpose of dragging people here.

I think that depends on what version of the afterlife they subscribe to. I wouldn't be surprised if at least some humans believed something similar would happen to them; I've spoken to enough that seem to think they're exempt from dying at all, given how they conduct themselves, so it's hardly out of the question.

I don't know whether they do or not, in my world. Some continue to exist, that much has been proven, but we have no reason to believe that they're the majority.

Isn't that just the human condition, though? Humans can't know what happens after death until it happens to them. So they'll make up whatever scenario comforts them the most.

In either case, if we were to know what happens when anyone is sent home, then I'd have assumed someone would have figured out a way to engage that action, no?

Yes, but you can also impact the world here itself. Are we going to assume all return home? It's a careful balance of not doing too much but still enjoying yourself and seeing freer.

It isn't.

Someone that I know from back then was concerned about that as well, though. He was concerned that I would hate it here, that I wouldn't want to be brought back in the first place and would just prefer to leave things as they were. I appreciate the opportunity that I've been given here, though. Not that I'm suggesting those that don't are ungrateful, but this happens to align with my personal desires on the matter.

I'm assuming nothing, regarding who will and won't return, simply because we don't know how voluntary the process will be for us in the end. For now, it seems involuntary. I don't know if it will remain so.

That isn't to say I'm not enjoying myself here, personally. It's been an experience worth having, even if it counts for nothing in the scheme of things. Meaninglessness isn't necessarily worthlessness.
