Video: For once she isn't in a bad mood

I would ask you to once again indulge my curiosity. This world we are all in is vastly different from where I was calling home before I was drawn here. It is likely the same for the majority of you. My previous home was one I selected for the express purpose of distancing myself from the rapidly developing technology of the human world. The bright lights, the cities that never truly slept, they did not appeal to me in the slightest. The night was supposed to belong to me, after all, and humanity had long since encroached on my domain.

[Said entirely without arrogance in her voice, as if it was so common sense she need not even explain herself.]

Furthermore, there was little that science could do that sorcery could not simply do better. I suppose the appeal is that not everyone has the capability to be a great magic-user, but any simpleton can push a button. But I am going off track. The question I have to ask of you is actually quite simple. For those of you who came from a lower technology world, do you prefer the garish lights and sprawling cityscape you find yourself in now? I would hear your reasons for your response, if you would be so kind. As the one asking the question, I shall answer first. I much prefer my lakeside home to what this city has to offer. Peace barely exists here.

Sakuya appeared with her usual cup of tea and tray of cookies, setting them down next to the smaller vampire. They had, of course, been plated perfectly. And the tea was a floral one, rich with newer flavors from this new world.

She stepped back, brushing off her apron and straightening up, waiting patiently for Remilia to put her device down before speaking. "Truth be told, Lady Remilia, there are many things of this world I have found helpful. Convenient, even. Especially in regards to my role and care of you."

It is such a commonplace occurrence for her that the vampire scarcely even looks up. She knows right where everything will be placed, and as she finishes asking her question, sets the technology she had just mocked aside to enjoy her tea.

"It is not without merit. The people of this city have taken it entirely too far, however. There is barely anyplace without bright lights, loud noises, and crowds of people. It is this I find distasteful more than the application of their 'science'." The way she says it, you would think scientific concepts didn't even apply to her.

"This I do understand, but there is more to it than that methinks." She looked thoughtful. "The convenience of traveling to a single store to buy food, for example. I do not have to haggle with every merchant I come across. merely purchase in bulk what I need and return in a timely fashion. I know it is not much of a change by your perception but by my own it is much quicker."

Sakuya had surely seen more of the city than Remilia herself did. It was more difficult to play the role of snooty rich woman in a city where her wealth was average at best, but at the very least she still had her power. That was all she needed to feel like she was better.

"Hm. Well, I suppose that it is not all bad, than. However, the whole place feels so artificial. It lacks the charm Gensokyo has. Despite the positive aspects I feel it is inherently inferior. Too large, too bright, and too fake. Besides, the people do not respect me at ALL."

That, of course, was probably the most dreadful part of it for her.

[Please ignore the smoldering computer case in the back. Holy crap she's glad that was cheap.]

The aesthetic has its appeal, albeit in smaller doses than we are offered. I'm vaguely used to it, I guess. [Which you can thank her getting hit really hard by her moonblessing at times for!]

On a side note, I've been making some attempts to try to better integrate technology and magic.

Sakuya had something similar to tell me. But I think it will take a long time before I could feel at home in a place like this. I moved the mansion away from it on purpose, after all.

[She allows herself a little smile.]

I am hardly surprised to hear that you try to improve on it with sorcery, however. Obviously I was not referring to you when I said that magic was not for everyone. Is that twisted wreckage behind you the results of one of your experiments?

[Because no, she is not going to ignore that. Sorry!]

Um...

[Dang it, you just had to bring that up...]

...yes. I think I overloaded the processor a "little." It's a good thing I was fairly far away from the machine at the time.

I have no idea what a processor is, but if I had to make a guess I would say you overloaded it by more than merely a little. It is fortunate you were not injured, though I would surely have taken care of you if you were, poor though my nursing likely would have been.

You really have adapted to this world better than I. I still have occasional trouble managing this device we are speaking through, and you are detonating machinery just to see how it works. I may be falling behind on ambition.

[There is just a tiny hint of a teasing tone to her voice. A tiny, tiny bit.]

"That it is. It is a city of concrete, glass, and illumination. There is little of the natural world left in this place. However, with these sacrifices comes an abundance not seen in our world."

Sakuya paused for a moment, thinking. "I would think the cause is the density of the population. More people means society is forced to advance. As does production. It allows me to obtain a great many things easily, no matter the time or place. It is a sacrifice in order to increase the comfort level of all."

"You seem to have grown rather comfortable. Just so you know, I have no intention of returning to the outside world once we find our way back to Gensokyo. However, I have no objection to it if you can find some way to use some of what this world has to offer in our own home. I have ways I prefer things done, but there is nothing to gain in inconvenience simply through refusal to change. Assuming we ever return there, this place seems to rather enjoy our presence."

A fanged frown touches her face. "The densely packed population would make procuring blood easy if there was a single dark place to be found. It has been quite a long time since I had it fresh. The replacement they provide takes care of my bodily needs, but it is bland, tasteless, like devouring solid air."

"Not quite comfortable. I miss the quiet simplicity of the mansion just as you do. I only meant that there are advantageous aspects to this world that are not present in our own. Though I am certain we will return one day. After all, not everyone stays here. In fact, it seems those who run out of chroma are sent back. It appears to be a truly unpleasant process though."

Sakuya nodded. "And, indeed. More humans means more blood. And potentially even those willing to part with it without the need for force. Mayhaps that is something we should look into? Finding you someone willing for you to drink from?"

Basically, the processor is the most important part of the machine. If I hadn't blown up a bunch of other parts in it, it would be inoperable.

I feel it's best to make full use of all resources I have at hand. Back home, using computers wouldn't be very feasible anyway. I swear I'm not trying to just blow them up! [...probably. But also she now knows a lot of ways to make people's personal computers go up in flames.]

"You have seen more of it than I have, so I will have to simply take your word for it. Little has changed for me. I still have you to tend to my needs."

Though it might come across as a little selfish sounding, it was just fact. Things being easier for Sakuya didn't change much for her. It was not, of course, that she was heartless. Sakuya is one of the few people who's complaints she would actually take seriously. Taking good care of the one that took care of her was a matter of personal pride.

"That, however, is an idea I can agree with. Surely there would be some human who would not be bothered. Perhaps they may even like it. I, of course, would not turn them. I have no desire for that kind of attachment."

"I would tend to you no matter the ease of it. Your joy is my top priority. Always."

Sakuya looked thoughtful as Remilia spoke, tapping her cheek with her index finger. It was a slightly less formal side that she generally only showed Remilia. "I could begin investigating that for you, Lady Remilia. I am unsure where to start looking so it may be some time before I get any concrete results. I am afraid I will have to ask some patience of you."

So what you are telling me is that you made its brain explode. I suppose that experiment could be considered a failure, but I have known you long enough to know you will not tolerate it any more than I would.

[She has apparently had her fill of teasing, not wanting to actually offend one of the few people she actually considers a real friend.]

The hardest part I have had to adapting here is the loss of the mansion. I can get used to the machinery and bright lights, but the loss of my lifestyle is intolerable. And gathering wealth here requires a much different skillset.

The vampire fully understands how it could take a long time. An abundance of people does not mean there is an abundance of worthwhile ones. There were surely many she would not want to put her fangs anywhere near. There would be numerous non-humans to weed out, too.

"I will allow you to offer some small reward. Though merely being my food should be reward enough, I rather imagine the unwashed masses here would not see it that way. Most of them would be unlikely to recognize greatness even as it feasted upon them."

Of course Sakuya herself technically counted as a blood source, but the vampire had never seemed interested in going down that path. Her maid was more than mere food, after all.

Basically, yes. It's going to take some time to get the results I want. [The explosion lit her room up in some interesting colors briefly, but it was useless as a computer without replacing basically everything. So...]

It's not easy and I don't have a lot of good advice. I was helped along because of the transformations making me more acclimated to it and deciding it wasn't so bad after the fact.

Transformations, hm? That sort of thing is nothing unusual to me. My form is a bit less restricted than most, after all. However, now you must indulge my curiosity. I have never actually seen you during the moon cycle, though I will confess I have come close to seeking you out multiple times. Sadly, being used to transformations or not, not even I am immune to the pull of those accursed moons, though thankfully it is only my mental state and not my physical that gets thrown into confusion.

Feeling homesick?

As for your question...suppose it don't really matter much. The lights certainly are more bright than anything from home. Smell's about the same though, maybe a bit better.

What would you like me to tell you? My transformations have always been during the second moon of the cycle, the Cordis moon. My transformation underwent a drastic transformation a while ago, but the timing has remained the same.
