i have a question. there's no right or wrong answer, i'm just wondering what people think.

suppose somebody came here, and outwardly they seemed like an average person. kept to themselves, didn't make trouble, maybe were a little bit weird but not, like, offensively so. you've never seen them do anything wrong. they seem pretty harmless. they're just a normal, fine, generally boring person.

then imagine somebody else said that they knew that person, and that all the niceness was just an act, and really that person was dangerous. really dangerous. and that the person hurt people in really bad ways. but imagine there was no proof of it, really, just that upset person's word against the boring person's.

how would you decide who to believe? would you only go by what you saw yourself, or only by what happened here and not where they came from, or what? would you believe anyone at all?

like i said, there's no right or wrong answer, i guess. i just wonder how you would make a decision either way, in a situation like that.

that sounds like a pretty miserable thing to have to witness over and over again. the kind of thing that'd make anybody start to lose hope.

i was talking to someone else who said that regardless of what a person did before they came here, being here at all should be their one last chance to change.

what do you think about that?

A little. Mostly I wanted to see how people would react to a situation like that. Who they'd believe. What kind of proof it would take to convince them.

Except for me, he always got rid of all the evidence. So it'd really just be my word against his.

...He could have one of two faces, if he came here. He had two back home, but I think I would recognize both. And even if I couldn't, one of my friends would. He's an artist, so he's good with faces.

i know this is a tough thing to do but i also know you'd do anything to make sure people would be safe here.

I'll definitely ask. I know it's possible that he might never turn up here at all, but I'd rather have thought about it and have a plan ready and waiting if he ever does, than not think about it and get caught by surprise.

What really makes him dangerous, though, isn't just that he's a murderer. It's that he's got a special advantage he uses to do it, and you won't be able to see it.

You know how, in comic books, sometimes the heroes have special powers? And sometimes the bad guys do, too?

Well, that's how it is for him. His special thing is that he can blow things up by touching them.

That's how he gets rid of the evidence. He blows it up. And he blows up anybody who tries to hunt him down, too. Or who knows too much.

but just trust me when i say that he can't erase everything
no matter how careful he is
if he shows up and gets up to anything, as long as i know who to look for, he can't get away with anything.
