{02 Video | IRIS MOON}

[During the first night of the Iris Moon, a video comes up on the feed of what appears to be a woman with long, cascading scarlet hair that falls over her shoulders in waves. The only thing tipping them off to be someone familiar to some is her lilac skin and the one exposed ear adorned with cuff jewelry running across the top and tipped with a red fin.

She's clearly sporting make-up tonight, as her eyes look very dramatic, framed by a thick line of deep green eyeshadow that fades into a white highlight under their red brows. Her face seems to be more dramatically contoured as well, highlighting her high cheekbones. And those lips are also more dramatic than usual, featuring a fancy gradient from deep plum at the edges to a bright magenta at the center.]

I think the trend lately has been all about transformation, and... I'm feeling particularly generous with mine.

[It's easy to tell from their body language that this fish is totally feeling their oats. And in a fluid movement, they sweep a hand with long, red nails over their head and pull off their wig to dramatically reveal their actual shorter red hair, which they shake out. But instead of it being plain red as it always has, it seems to have been enhanced by glowing tendrils of electric blue. They mix into their hair nicely, just making the merfolk even more like a fantastical, colorful creature from the sea.]

Come to the beach and I'll sing you a song for a kiss. I'll be looking forward to meeting whoever comes.

[They chuckle, and they blow a kiss to the camera to close the feed.]

No help at all. I'm pretty skilled at putting all my hair under a wig for a surprising reveal. I used to have much longer hair, too.

[Apart from what he remembers from the Bakumatsu period, Yasusada really doesn't have a whole lot of experience with women. Not firsthand, anyway. His first thought upon watching the video is that the beautiful woman looks a lot like a certain pretty merfolk he knows already, because how many people with lovely lavender skin does one really meet?

He's actually on the verge of asking if she knows Fish when the wig comes off, and suddenly Yasusada is... just plain confused.

This looks more like Fish now, but what's with the glowing hair??]

Oh... Hello Yasu. Yes, it's me, Fish.

[Fish chuckles, waving at the communicator.]

Did I surprise you?

Ah, you look beautiful! But why are you glowing like that?

[Fish rolls their shoulders back, flipping their hair (with tendrils!) back with a flourish of their hand]

Your appreciation is appreciated, darling. As to why I'm glowing, I don't really know... it's probably got something to do with the moon that's risen over this place.

The moon? What do you mean?

[Guess who hasn't put two and two together yet.]

Haven't you noticed? The moons rising have been changing. The color of night has changed, too. The moon last night was blue. The moon tonight is violet.

I noticed the moons, but do you really think they have something to do with... the changes we've all been going through?

[Now that Fish mentions it, that actually kind of makes sense. As much as anything does, anyway.]

I have a feeling they do.

[Fish chuckles, running a hand through their hair and the glowing tendrils.]

I haven't been affected by any of the changing moon colors until now. But I've seen other people changing during the other moons. Have you gone through any changes, Yasu?

Me? Oh, ah...

[Ugh, he's blushing again. Yasusada rubs the back of his neck with one hand and looks to the side, clearly embarrassed.]

I had wolf ears for a while, earlier this month. And I felt like growling a lot.

My, an aggressive change, hm? Did it happen to be when the moon was red?

I think it was, yes! So it really is the moons making us change like this?!

[Yasusada's expression changes from surprised to thoughtful.]

So you have those pretty glowing things in your hair... do you feel anything else? Another boy I met smelled really good when he had cat ears, I wonder if you smell good too?

[YAMS PLEASE.]

Mm... so far, this is the first night and I don't feel much anything else.

[It will kick in eventually...]

[By now he's completely forgotten Fish's offer from the initial video, a song for a kiss. If he remembered that he'd probably be a lot more hesitant--or blushing brightly, more like--about visiting his friend.

As it is he just nods enthusiastically.]

[Austria switches on the feed, and he's sporting a pair of small antlers himself. They're not yet at their full majesty as they will be under the full moon, but his ears are now those of a deer's and they're a bit further up on the sides of his head. Unlike his usual, signature look, his glasses are off, his hair is completely down, and ... he's smiling, freely.]

Fish, this is a lovely look for you. Did you also get highlights done? The blue is a very pretty contrast.

Oh, these aren't highlights, Roderich dear. They... kind of just grew out this evening.

[Fish smiles right back at the man, noticing the changes that had come over him, too.]

I see you've got a few extra features yourself. They're adorable.

Grew...? What an interesting thing, I don't know what animal has pretty blue hair like that.

[Austria blushes.] You think so? I'm still getting used to it. I worry I'm going to knock something over, but I hear everything in so much more detail, now, I didn't know it was possible. I always had better hearing than my colleagues even without this. Everything is so vivid.

[He's feeling unusually relaxed, leaning his cheek on his hand, and he peeks closer at the screen.

Wait.]

Are they... [oh god]

I think I've just realized what's in your hair. [He looks more uncomfortable, glad he has the screen between them but it's still alarming to see tentacles on his new friend.] Do they sting...?

Hmm?

[Fish runs their fingers through their enhanced hair and the tentacles slip harmlessly past them. They're very fine tendrils. Luminescent, but incredibly fine as jellyfish tentacles are.]

Not at all. They do feel different from the rest of my hair, but unless I'm looking into a mirror, I don't notice them at all.

Are you enjoying being a deer, dear? [They giggle a bit.]

[Austria's face colors a bit pink. Cautiously but curiously he stares at their hair, calmed by the fact that they're touching the tendrils with no problem. And... and the tendrils are pretty. Attached to an attractive person, a human-like face who doesn't seem to mind them at all, it's not as if it's some otherworldly, dead-eyed something or other that washed up on the beach

No, Fish is beautiful. And it's blowing his mind that he thinks so.] I didn't think I could ever be anything but terrified of something like that. It's... very pretty.

[Austria bites his lower lip in a small grin.] You're terrible. I... was shocked when I first saw it all, but it's manageable, I think. I feel calmer than I have in ages, and I don't know if that's to do with the features or something else. [He laughs.] It's very funny, you know, deer aren't nearly as docile as they look, especially bucks, but I feel like that's what it's doing to me.

[Fish chuckles, then smiles sweetly at the dear (heh) man.]

Well, I'd be mortified if you were frightened of me, darling! But I'm very glad you find all this pretty. Maybe you'd like to come over and see this in person? Actually... now that I think of it, I'm feeling much... sweeter? More affectionate? Than I usually am, I think.

[Fish plays with their hair, curling a finger around a tendril.]

There is something about this moon that is really putting me in a romantic mood.

I'm not, don't worry. [Austria is thrilled, really, to be able to say so; it's his biggest irrational fear and it's just ... not there?]

I am too. I'm not sure what's specifically going on, but I also feel it. Romance, coziness... I know others have had changes in behavior, but surely nothing this... peaceful? In any case, I'd love to come over -- shall I bring the zither, then? How lovely would that be, I haven't made music with anyone since I've been here.

Yes, please! I'd certainly love to make music with you, darling.
