You seem like a very motivated person. I've never played the violin, but I'm a musician too, so I think I understand some of what you're feeling.
Before I started writing music, I hadn't touched a guitar for a while. It's frustrating to not be able to pick an instrument back up and play it like no time has passed, but I can tell you from experience that it comes back quickly. It may be rough at the start, but if you start practicing again little by little, I'm sure you'll improve much faster than a beginner. You'll remember much more than you realize.
