[Video] Fly Like an... everything really

Hey all!

[ It's Konoka again. This time though, you might notice something odd, namely it appears that the background scenery behind her is... upside down.

Or she's upside down, more like it. She's hanging by her knees on an apparent tree branch. A clue on why she's doing that might be visible from her new tall, bat-like ears. Konoka's got her hair wrapped up in a bun to avoid it being a curtain wherever she might be hanging around. ]

Just a quick question this time:

If you haven't had wings before you had a blessing, what is it like to fly?

Freeing? Also kind of freezing, since the first time I flew, it was in a really cold climate.

[ Short, sweet and to the point, to be honest. ]

To be honest, I'm a slight cheater in this aspect. I've never had my own wings before, but people have taken me flying, and I know from their experiences what to expect.

Still, experiencing it for yourself is a whole 'nother matter! What you say just about covers it.

It's not something that's easy to put into words. It's elation, fear, euphoria, anxiety...a lot. I've been flying for years and I can honestly say that generalizing it as "nice" or "it's a release" doesn't really do it justice.

[A beat.]

Why?

[ Slightly mysterious, using just audio. But Konoka's not the judging type.

She thinks about his question a bit before answering. ]

For a while, I've ridden with people who can fly. As in they carried me. I've seen amazing things, felt the thrill and perhaps danger of being high up with only hands to protect you from a fall.

But when you're the one that's flying? It feels different!

That, and I kinda can't fly well as a bat, so I'm wondering what I might feel when I finally 'get it'.

Oh, well. If you'd like I can help you. I'm not entirely sure if I can teach a bat but, flying is flying. If you have wings, it can be done.

Well, I didn't necessarily grow wings, per se.

[ Beat. ]

There's just a horse bird, called a Chocobo in my world that can fly, so I tend to ride them!

[ The process for him to be able to fly in a given region though, he's going to leave that out. ]

A Chocobo?

[ Konoka mulls over that concept a bit to imagine it. However, Konoka's imagery is much closer to a "pegasus" than the birds he speaks about. ]

Sounds cool!

I imagine that's back at home though, right? Do you miss it?

Sure! I'm currently chilling out in the Greatmoon Groves. I should be easy to spot.

Alright, see you in a few then.

[Soon after, he heads out. Getting to the groves didn't take long especially if he travels the way he does, and eventually he's walking around whispering-]

Bat girl, bat girl, bat girl...

[Pretty loudly, even earning a few glances from passer by's which he promptly ignores. Although, for someone offering to teach people how to fly, he sure is lacking a pair of wings.]

[ Konoka only catches the tail end of the odd cries for "Bat girl". She had gone back to reading and just felt too comfortable to move. She notices that despite her ears, she can't hear any better (or worse) than she did as a human, with the exception of her own voice. Must be a blessing thing.

Konoka calls out to the walking man when he comes close enough. ]

Hey, are you the ~mysterious~ voice I heard earlier? You sound like him.

[He looked to voice that called to him and upon laying eyes on her immediately said-]

Bat girl.

[Easy enough.]

Yeah, that was me. I'm called Bishop, and you are?

[ Konoka rose up from her hangout spot, taking a moment to use her newfound wings to land somewhat calmly before looking him over. ]

I'm Konoka Konoe. Just call me Konoka.

[ Konoka's a somewhat short girl, standing a bit above five feet, with very dark hair that resembled jellyfish tentacles. Violet fur surrounded her neck. And most obviously, her arms were bat wings, currently folded and drawn close to her sides. ]

Nice to meet you! Were you here to help me fly?

Ah, Japanese to boot. That makes things easier.

[He nods and smiles while secretly giving her a good once over. When next he speaks it's in fluent Japanese.]

Good day, and yes, I'll be teaching you how to fly or at the very least I will try. To start with, could you spread your wings out for me, please? I'd like to see what I'm working with.

[ Konoka's actually a little surprised when she heard him talk in her native language. She long since didn't bother fighting the universal translator magic that hung around, not because she didn't like it, but more to see if she could, and how it worked.

But still, despite wondering why he never appeared to have his own wings, Konoka didn't question him. Instead, she opened them up to their full wingspan, giving them a full flap to keep them straight. ]

Almost like having a fleshy cape. [ Came her idle comment. ]

[Immediately he starts to see the difference between his own and a bats wings but also the similarities.]

Please keep them out stretched.

[He starts to circle her while occasionally inspecting her wings closely, from the joints, her shoulders, to the very tips before standing once again before her.]

Hmmm, there may be some slight differences in sensation but I can work with this. [He declares confidently.] So? Do you want to start now or would you rather do some image training first?

Alright.

[ Konoka doesn't move her wings, but she keeps a steady eye on him as he walks around her. From what she's discovered so far, a bat and a bird's wings are different--not radically so, but enough that it was throwing her off.

But it's the second offer that seems strange. ]

Image training?

Mmmhmmm. Image training. Kinda like how surfing instructors teach new surfers how to paddle out and then stand on the board on the beach first, it's best to do some image training before some actual flying. I only thought of giving you a choice since I'm here to catch you if you do fall. Wouldn't want you to bump that pretty little nose now, would we?

[He says while giving her a gentle boop on the nose.]

[ Konoka flinched just a tiny bit from the boop, but more out of light surprise and confusion than any heavier reaction. She just blinked, wondering if she met another Character(tm). It seemed very much like the kind of person she'd run into back home. ]

That sounds fair. I'll do image training.

[He nods, arms crossed and eyes now having a spark behind them.]

Good! That's the answer I wanted to hear. Now...

[He takes a look around if there was somewhere they could practice.]

Hmmm...I'll have to make the stages we can practice on later. Oh well. Image training first. Let's go over there- [He points to relatively open place just out of sight from anyone who may walk by.] - so we can have some privacy.

[He saunters over and makes a quick survey and wound it sufficient. More than enough room for her to spread her wings.]

Okay so before he can have you fly, you have to learn to glide. Like this. [He bends his knees and jumps high into the air, roughly 15 to 20 feet and at the zenith of his jump his body becomes covered in shadows and he starts to shrink, eventually turning into an eagle owl that glides down in a spiral before landing smoothly a couple of feet away from her.]

Like that. [Bishop says, his voice echoing directly in her head via telepathy.]

[ Again, Konoka found him curious. It took her a moment to realize why privacy was important, and it wasn't like Konoka was in a heavily traveled location, but finding a spot to train uncontested meant she wouldn't have anything distracting her.

So she followed. It wasn't too far from their regular spot so it didn't take long for them to find it. After watching him assess the area, Konoka blinked when he spoke to her again.

And then, much to her surprise, he jumped up high and then turned into an owl. ]

Whoa. You can transform that much?! That doesn't seem like a blessing power...

[ But she decided to follow his advice. She crouch down and jumped up, using her wings to add to her height. She only got 15 feet up though, and as she unfurled her wings, it took a bit for her to steady. So concerned with being steady that she kind of just cruised right on the ground. ]

Oof.

[His eyes never left her as she launched into the air...and promptly came down.]

Well, at the very least I understand how I can teach you. I also didn't tell you to try it, I just wanted to give you a demonstration of the form to adapt. Let that serve as your lesson one miss...

[A beat.]

Oops. I forgot to introduce myself. Uhoohoo! [He hoots.] My name is Bishop, as you can see I'm a shapeshifter. And you are?

A little bit, yes! He's been with me for a while, so not having him here is kind of... How do I put it?

Like a small piece of home is missing. But I'm sure he's fine back home! He's a strong one, for sure.

[ Konoka quickly recovered, thanks to the fact her landing wasn't painful. She shook herself off just in time for Bishop to... introduce himself again. ]

I'm Konoka Konoe.

[ No reason not to follow along. ]

I'm a mage in training, and accomplished healer.

I know that feeling! I have plenty of people back home I miss.

[ She looks a little sad, to be expected, but she shakes that off. No reason to let it get her down. ]

I do like all the new friends I've made here though.

I'm a bit used to doing things alone myself, so I guess I am not too worried about them, they're strong after all.

[ He appreciates his bonds regardless, new and old. ]

And that's good! It's always nice meeting new people regardless of the situation.
