Hello - Dr. de Kuiper again. I have a somewhat... awkward... question this month.
[He clears his throat. There's the sound of some shuffling and papers being moved.]
Since my arrival, I've been Iris-aligned, and it's been surprisingly agreeable. However... I seem to have shifted! I understand that Sanguis is usually the first moonblessing to arrive in a month. It's... quite the change. But I started thinking about how to handle this and it brought up another topic I've been curious about.
Where I'm from, the concept of 'self-care' is quite popular. Taking time to take care of yourself. I suppose I'm interested in seeing how you all cope with how hectic it can be in this city.
Also, any advice on sleeping with wings would be appreciated. Or dealing with claws, I suppose.

( Color her (and her tone of voice) completely amused. First she went Iris to Sanguis, and now he has as well, is it? )
Have you been all right? Sanguis seems to have harsh effects for most people, it seems. I wonder if it isn't some sort of orbit change...? Ah, but as for self-care... The men I live with actually began to set up a room for me before they even asked me to come live with them; it's filled with blankets and cushions primarily for the Iris cycles when I sought comfort the most, but it's always nice to have a comfortable space flavored by others to gather one's thoughts.
A good bath helps you to relax, and having some of your favorite food even if it's as small as a few chocolates, and taking the time to gather yourself again. I usually like to spend time with someone if I can so I'm not entirely alone, but that is my preference. I still like the quiet and comfort with them.
( TL;DR she likes to cuddle as her self-care, but you know. Giving options and all. )

[He's not going to elaborate on that. He's still processing how Sanguis affected her, although it was one of the first things he thought of when the month started and he'd felt... different.
He clears his throat again.]
Oddly enough, I don't feel much different. I've heard... and witnessed... as much, but it seems like I'm destined to receive the primarily physical effects.
[just don't let him sing]
Favorite foods are almost always a safe bet. I'm glad you have people that take your desires and preferences into account when it comes to your environment! You do seem the type to reach out for comforts. Personally, I prefer to get out of the house - or lab, I suppose - whenever I can. Exercise can be rather calming.

( Don't worry, she won't elaborate on it either; just don't talk about your other baes while she's in the swing of Sanguis. It's probably for the best for all involved. )
I'm glad to hear it isn't affecting you too terribly. I forgot to mention for the wings, but sleeping on your stomach seems to be an easy enough fix with pillows to flank you, so they remain supported if they stretch out. That or sleeping upright, to a degree; having a partner would help in that so you have someone to lay against. If you'd like to try, you're welcome to come over and give that room a go. I wouldn't mind the company in the least.
( He would actually have the honor of being the first person she ever invites to her home (as opposed to the little apartment in level 2); it's shared with others so she typically avoids company, but it isn't easy to replicate an entire (cuddle) room filled with cushions and blankets acquired over time. The two still in the house with her won't mind in the least. )
I usually like to get out of the lab as well. My housemates take good care of me and never mind my cuddling, so I don't particularly have to leave the house, but I try not to burden them all the time either. I hope you know you have people who are more than willing to help you in the same way.

[Siebren de Kuiper? 'Ferocious'? He's sure his old colleagues would laugh out of their seats at the thought.]
Sleeping upright seems to be the general consensus. If... you're sure, I might take you up on that. I haven't tried to lie down with my new additions yet.
...I do. You've made it quite clear that you're someone I can turn to if I need it, doctor. And I... wholly appreciate it.

( All right, maybe she'll tease him just a little bit more; but it's never ill-meant, and it could be angled toward his studies or his teaching or a take on his passion overall. If need be. )
I'm sure. ( Spoken much warmer in tone, gentling. ) I don't imagine I could sleep upright very well, from the few times I've had to manage it. So if I can help find something better for you, I'm more than happy to do so.
( She'll attach a location pin to the penthouse she shares with the Spardas on level 1, whenever he has the time to come by. )
Of course, Siebren. You've become a very good friend to me and I've been honored by your trust in turn. There will be others, as well. I know it isn't just myself. I'll see you soon?

Interesting. I knew shifting was a possibility. I didn't think it happened so sharply, between cycles. Good to know.
Funny, I think I remember you mentioning once that you'd fare better with scales. I suppose we should all be careful what we wish for.
It all solely depends on how you handle it. I've found myself uncharacteristically aggressive during Sanguis. I typically prefer solitude, unless unbearable. (which regretfully, has happened a few times)
I've found body pillows to be helpful with wings. Claws, I couldn't tell you. You sort of...adapt to them.
[ You've seen her preferred manicure even without Sanguis. ]
As for self care...well. I tend to resort to small comforts that remind me of home. Cooking, music, mostly. Occasionally, company.
Do call me if you require anything.

I haven't felt much different personality-wise. It's mostly been physical changes - I seem to have become quite draconic, as a matter of fact.
Body pillows under the wings? I suppose I'll have to fiddle around a little to get comfortable. As long as I don't shred any important paperwork, I think I can adapt.
[If she can handle beakers with those nails, he can handle having claws.]
Small comforts are still comforts. Good to hear you're taking your own advice. 😉
I may be in touch. Thank you, Dr. O'Deorain.

I've only ever dealt with the draconic features....say, maybe once or twice. It seems to cycle through during a particularly bad bout with my person. In any case.
That or using them to prevent side sleeping.
[ The emojis are a small touch that she probably takes a little too personally. ]
Work is a comfort in itself. I should get back to it.
My door's always open, for you at least.
[ A beat, then a separate text. ]
And do please call me Moira.
no subject
Of course. Don't let me keep you.
[Although he doesn't mind cuddling anime girl pillows, he'd rather not. But likewise, after a minute, he sends another message.]
Moira it is, then.

Um, when I sleep I find it most helpful to do it while sitting up. A couch without a back is the best and you could pile it with pillows.
As for self-care... I guess I like helping people? [That counts, right? It totally counts, he's sure of it.]
no subject
Helping others is quite alright. As long as you remember to take time to recharge yourself. 'You cannot pour from an empty cup' and all that.
no subject
And... I'm not sure what you mean by recharging. Eating? Sleeping? [What is self-care honestly]

for wings, i mean.
like, are they in a convenient location, are they strong enough to hold your weight comfortably when folded back, feather or leather...
you know?
kind of a stretch but while i'm here, do you have any advice on sleeping with a snake tail?
like. a really big one.
a really, really big one.
text; un: drdekuiper
Leather. Rather convenient, although it's hard to tell whether they're strong enough or if my own abilities are interfering.
Tails... I'm sorry, but I haven't had to deal with any tails thus far. Coiling it, maybe?
no subject
i mean...
even if your abilities are doing part of the work, it's still probably safe enough?
if it's not something you actively focus on it's probably not going to stop just because you closed your eyes, you know?
and yeah. i kind of figured? but it was worth a shot.
i'll try that later.
anyway leather means you don't have to worry about feathers catching, which is nice
as long as it's not painful, you can probably sleep on your back without too much of a problem?
although wings CAN fall asleep. so definitely keep that in mind
i usually just sort of prop myself up with a pillow and spread them out around me tbh

There was a boy who asked a similar question some weeks ago, and I advised him to sleep in a hammock with many pillows below.
He had the wings of a butterfly.
text, un: drdekuiper
A hammock? Not a bad idea. I don't know if mine are as fragile as that, but it might be worth looking into.

( Although the thought of Hawke (Hawkes?) leaves her feeling rather sad, so moving on... )
If you do decide to go through with it, don't skimp on the pillows, okay?

But as far as the wings go, I can help with bird wings, not sure about other types. They lay and fold differently. For me, sleeping on my stomach or sitting upright is the best way to do it. It can get uncomfortable fast if there's a lot of pressure on them.
[Audio]
Mine are... dragon-like. I imagine the anatomy isn't too different - I suppose I'll have to adjust to stomach-sleeping. Although upright isn't too much of a stretch either.
I appreciate the advice regardless.
[Audio]
Yeah, I think it should be close enough. As long as you're not putting weight on them, they should be fine, but they probably have a sturdier structure than bird wings do. Glad I could help!
