That's getting into the soul thing.

In my world, creatres called Taints have appeared inside books and are devouring literature. They destroy not just the physical books but the stories in the minds of anyone who has ever read them.

Flesh-and-blood humans can't travel inside of books to fight the Taints. That's why spirits with a strong attachment to literature are being transmigrated to fight them.

Technically, I am less Nakajima Atsushi himself and more the collection of his memories and feelings that was attached to the novel used to summon me. That novel now transforms into my sword when I need to fight, and damaging it damages me.
