Um, hello. My name is Confidence, and I wanted to ask a few questions. If that's okay?

There's been talk about undeath and serious things, so I figured it could be nice to focus on the seasonal festivities! I've heard it is called Firalia here, but others call it Christmas?

My home country has something similar, but it doesn't take place in winter...

So I... um... I wondered if anyone would like to share how they celebrate at home...? Especially what they eat and things you do with family and friends.

My mother was good to both of her children, and in many ways, that was enough. For the most part she retired from the rest of the world, content with her books and her small circle of magical and clerical contemporaries.

Could have done more for her people when she chose to ignore the world instead, but she harmed no one through action.

My father was an absolute tyrant who was cruel to me, to my brother, and anyone who displeased him.

I have nothing more to say other than that I'm pretty sure he's somewhere in the Nine Hells, but he can stay there for all eternity.

It is in the nature of those who have never known suffering to inflict it upon others. My mother may not have been the best person, or even the best parent, but she tried her damnedest until illness took her from the mortal world.

[A lot of it was through mind controlling her asshole husband but you know.]

I do have extended relatives, cousins and the like, but I mostly only pay them mind during official court duties.

My brother could stay. But everyone else? I chose to welcome my daughter ls into my world, and I chose the rest of the companions who grace my life.

I see no need for pity.

[It's fine, her brother was... okay, and she has her found family and her kids are good kids. ]

I meant... yeah... no, that's a good thing. Found family.

[ His was tiny and fragile back home, and he still didn't have a healthy view on friendship, even if Molly and Fish really helped.

Family just... hurt. The name hurt. Everything about it hurt, and it's probably bad ask questions about things like this when just talking about takes you halfway to a panic attack.

My family was... I was not good. They had a city to g-govern, and I was... I wasn't good for that. They're humans, and I'm... I'm not.

I hate to assume the worst of people I've never met, Connie, but it sounds like the problem was never you.

I think I mentioned my own daughters a few times.

Do understand if it sickens me that someone would treat their own child in such a manner.

My... my father was the Duke of Holzstadt. Third in line to the throne. He couldn't have a devil-blood in his family. It's not an excuse, I know, but there was more reasoning than just hatred. I was lucky they didn't kill me when I was born, I guess? Instead my family locked me in a tower... and I stayed there for a very, very long time.

All I ever heard was that I was a monster. It's changing here, and it changed somewhat after I got out, but it's hard to not think that way. That the problem was me.

I'm not terribly angry with the man, I suppose, but I am sorely disappointed in his behavior. Do not blame yourself.

Disappointingly few parents born of his station care for their children as more than extensions of their legacy. I know my father didn't.
