Well, okay, his purpose for being here is not a dumb one. It is food related, though, which seems to fall second only to pet posts and questions of a sexual nature.

Hey everyone. So uh. My birthday is comin' up!

[He tries to smile, but it comes out rather hollow looking and fades after a second. He rests his chin on his hand with a sigh.]

I know I haven't been the most uh-- ... I mean. I don't know many people here still, so if anyone is like "who cares, it's some random punk's birthday" I totally get that. But uh, I figure I can at least offer somethin'?

Is it weird to do that even though it's my birthday? Eh...

I-it's... my birthday, I mean, it's two days after Christmas. That's the big winter holiday where I'm from. I was talkin' to someone else a while ago about how there's no KFC here, and that's where people in my country usually get their Christmas dinner from. It's a whole weird tradition...

[That's besides the point, though.]

Anywaaaaay, I can't make fried chicken exactly like KFC but I've tried a coupl'a times in the past week and gotten it super close, so I wanna try makin' a whole bunch for anyone who really misses it, or really wants to try it. I figure we could meet up at the community center for a... a potluck thing? If... anyone is even interested...

[Potlucks also seem to be somewhat popular here. He might be piggybacking off of too many of them, and he's all awkward and anxiety about doing this at all. He hasn't looked directly at the camera much during this, fiddling with his ear, his shirt, his hair.]

Or maybe just show up, eat all the chicken and bounce. I can't even really be mad if that happens...

[This is getting sad. He's just going to turn the feed off.]

I'm not quite as good at cooking, but I guess if we're having a potluck I can try and find something to add to the mix?

harder to break and a lot more sturdy that way

[Rin... may have fallen asleep.

There's a small plate with a little food from his lunch left over on the kitchen counter, but it's gotten a bit stale as Rin has been out for a while.

He's on the couch, shirt pushed up with one hand and other draped off onto the floor as he snores with his mouth open--

at least until she comes in and makes him jerk awake with a snort.]

[ Aww, he's cute even when he's a drooling sleepy mess. ]

Wakey wakey ~ I come bearing gifts? Or, a gift. You already know what it is, so I figured I'd just go ahead and give it to you ...

Eh... heh. Yeah. Kinda took all the surprise out of it, but that's okay.

[He sits up and scratches at his head and stomach, letting out a big yawn.]

Did you get anythin' to eat while you were out? I didn't make much here.

[ Not much, but she did. She moves to sit next to him on the couch, pulling out a box. ]

I asked someone to help me choose a good set. I hope you like it ... I figured it would help while you're making the food for the potluck.

[They're both still pretty bad at this 'actually living not just surviving' thing.]

[He instantly perks up, excited with that usual tail wagging. He takes the box carefully, opening it up and putting some of the packaging to the side. He gently pulls out the first knife - a chef's knife as it's the largest and most obvious - sliding a cover off to examine the blade with a low whistle.]

Shiiiiit... this is really nice. Got a good weight to it, sharp, and that handle looks really comfortable.

[Something occurs to him, though-]

... you... didn't spend all your chroma on this, did you?

[Not that she can't earn it back! He's just concerned.]

[ To be fair, she kinda did. But seeing him smile like that was worth it. ]

... Yeah, kinda. No regrets, though. You got so excited just now, and after everything, you do kind of deserve to have something nice ...

[ Plus, it's your birthday soon and she's stubborn af so you're not convincing her that this was a bad move, buddy. ]

I really do like it...

[He's worried about her now, though, and sets the knife and box aside so he can give her a big hug.

Both for chroma, and to thank her.]

[ The hug is nice. She wasn't worried about spending so much on the knife set because she knew she'd get the chroma back in spades.

Plus, her boyfriend was adorable when he was excited. ]

Oh ... I haven't really thought about it.

[ Kohaku absentmindedly thinks for a moment. ]

I'm not sure how to pinpoint it on this calendar, but it was springtime in my world.

Oh, uh. Spring in my world is... [He has to think about it, but thankfully it's one of the few things that he's not nearly as dumb about.] March, April and May.

Figuring out which one is the hard part ... Unless we just pick a day at random and say it's my birthday, I guess.
