Ah, hello! I hope this is the right place for this! It seemed like other people were asking questions on here, so I thought maybe I could do it too?

How do humans normally get jobs? I want to do something to stay busy, but I've never had a real job before--master usually just tells us what chores we're assigned to do for the day.

Oh! Or if anyone wants to train, I'd be happy to do that! I promised someone that I was going to get stronger, so I better make sure I don't lose my edge before I see him again.

I'm not sure they quite know what to do with me, but it's good being busy, even if it's not my usual work.

I think it'll be good for you and the others to get out there and find a job you enjoy.

I don't mind some lazy days, but since we don't have to worry about the war here, I feel like I should be doing something. Besides cleaning Kane-san's hair out of the shower drain!

[Yasusada's eyes go wide at the sight of such an interesting person--he knows plenty of interesting swords, but not quite like this!--though he's polite enough to leave that alone for the moment.

Then his eyebrows knit together in thought.]

Well, what a timely question! I got one recently! I might not be human, but I think the process is just the same: find an establishment that matches what you can do then ask if they have any openings! Sometimes you might have to prove yourself further with an audition or a test, but that’s pretty much it!

Is there any kind of job you’re eyeing, Yasu darling?

I guess I don't really know what kind I should look for? I don't think the city needs sword warriors like me, but all I've ever done besides fight is chores around the citadel, like working in the fields or tending the horses....

What kind of job did you get, Fish-san? Are you going to be performing?

Hmm... if chores are what you can do, you could pick up work as a waiter at the club or something like that. It would be nice to see you often!

I think it all depends on what kinds of skills you have, but generally, you just need to see if there are any apprenticeships available around here.

Apprenticeships? [He pauses for a moment to think.] You mean like apprentices who learn smithing? I don't know if I could do something like that....

Yeah, that's exactly what I mean. Smiths aren't the only ones who take on and teach apprentices, though. Where I come from, a lot of different trades do.

If you have any skills or are interested in learning something, it might be worth checking out.

Well, I'm skilled at fighting, but... other than that I haven't done much else, I guess? I've done field work and I've taken care of horses, but my original purpose is battle. I don't really think they need me so much for that here, though? Except a few times here and there when weird stuff happens, of course!

Hmm. Maybe guard work or something like that? Unless you like animals. Not certain what jobs are around here with animals though.

[ How very eager. This attitude reminds Lancelot of the new trainees knights back at home. ]

If you wish to train, it would help to specify what you are looking for. Are you looking perhaps, for those who are skilled in armed combats? Hand to hand?

Oh, sorry! I guess I'm used to everyone knowing what I meant by that!

I'm a sword warrior, so I'd like to train with swords. Without getting dispatched to fight here, I don't want to get too lazy and forget everything!

It is understandable. Perhaps this is an opportunity to broaden your horizons then.

But I digress. I am skilled at swordcraft and would happily take this opportunity with others. If you would so wish, my blades are yours to go against.

[ah, the days of job hunting........ well, actually, he was kind of lucky to stumble into a job here, but you know. It’s hard!!]

Ah, it can be a little bit of an intimidating process if you’re unprepared, but I can walk you through the steps of it. First, you’re going to want to write up what’s called a resume. It’s basically a list of things your future employer can use to judge your qualifications and find ways to contact you to let you know if you’ve got the job or not.

Most people include their previous employment, but since you haven’t had any actual jobs before, you’re going to want to include your skills and any professional training you have. For example, if you mostly do household chores, you’ll want to list what kinds of chores you have experience with and do particularly well. As a preliminary thing, I’d suggest listing everything out that you can think of that would translate into something you could do for a job, because that might help you decide what sorts of positions you’d like to look into.

Another thing to include would be... well, maybe I’m getting ahead of myself. If there’s anyone else here who knows you from back home, you’ll want to include their contact information and how you know them so they can vouch for your abilities. This is what we call a reference.

Not all the time, but it’s usually something that you need to do if you’re not getting a job through some other form of networking. The good news is that once you have a resume together you have it to reference and copy if you decide to move to another job. The first one is definitely the hardest, though.

That depends on what kind of training you're looking for. Just make sure you're getting stronger for yourself too.

Sorry, I meant sword training! I used to train every morning with my partner, and there are some other swords that I live with here that I can train with, but I thought it might be a good idea to see if anyone else wants to as well!

[He pauses at that last part, about getting stronger.]

Well, I want to get stronger to be like Oki-- [Wait, not everyone here knows Okita-kun, do they?] Like my old master. And so that I can protect people, and help win the war. So that counts, right?

Yeah. [Wow do you sound just like him please stop.] I'd say that counts.

I've been practicing by myself, but if you're still looking for someone, I wouldn't mind having a partner. Can't let my skills go rusty.
