[What's up, Lunatia. It's your Texan scientist boy back at it again. He's in his engineering workshop, drinking a Lunatian beer. He's also got a new prosthetic hand. In fact - there's several robotic hands of all kinds of shapes and sizes hanging off the wall behind him. Neat.]
Y'think... hypothetically, birthdays still count 'round here? In a time-space alternate dimension sorta way.
Like if I had a birthday here - again, hypothetically - would that still count as gettin' a year older back home, too?
[He takes another pull from his beer... then shrugs.]
Reckon I'd have to run the numbers.
[ftr this is post is mostly an excuse to not-so-subtly hint that my made-up birthday for Engie is this month]

But I don't know. My birthday's passed so I count it for age but...
I guess we'd have to be here a while to see if we actually age, right?
[permavoice]
Likely wouldn't be too difficult to measure out, physics-wise, but... well. I'd have to gwt back home to measure it accurately. S'like you said, next best bet would be seein' what happens in a few years.
Not that I wanna be around that long.
Happy belated birthday, by the way.

It looks like you've been busy; did something happen to your last cybernetic? But to answer your question, I think birthdays will count, yes. And assuming Firialia which was just celebrated is about their Winter Solstice or Christmas, given a few days' wiggle room, that may be a good place to gauge from.
And seeing as I celebrated my birthday a few weeks back on this same basis, perhaps you could figure the same?
permavid
Back near the end of October, yeah. Damn thing came to pieces.
[He doesn't go much further than that. If she asks, he'd probably tell her, but - it's embarrassing. Almost-drowning-in-a-ghost-river-because-you-saw-your-dead-grandpa kind of embarrassing.]
Oh, sure. I get the idea of celebratin' anyway, or usin' it to keep track 'a things. But it's got me curious... whether or not it'll "count" when we get back home, if time really doesn't pass the same way there as it does here.
Happy belated one, by the way.

I don't know for sure yet but time does appear to pass normally in this place.
Have you been kept here for a year or longer?
permavid
You're right that time don't pass normally here, though. It's partly why I'm curious.

I would imagine it matters as much as you want it to in this situation.

I wonder... if we were just somewhere beyond known space I'd say yes, but it seems a lot more complicated than that.
no subject
That's a sound theory. I reckon it's a sorta... meetin' of dimensions, in a way. Prismatica might not've had a choice in that - 'less somebody caused a cataclysmic quantum event.

Had to replace my old prosthetic after it fell to pieces. Figured I should make one for just about every occasion, eh?
