[Zenyatta is quite unmistakeably underwater. The quiet is too dense for him to be anywhere else. The soft, languid shush of currents shifting around him fills the airwaves, broken on occasion by a hiss and flurry of bubbles as his new body vents into the water around him. The overall effect is peaceful, in a surreal sort of way, if a touch claustrophobic.
When he speaks, his voice sounds ever so slightly different: grainier, with a little of that strange echo granted by the breathing apparatus of a heavy-duty diving suit.]
Osse came for me, too. Yet as she held me in her embrace, I found that I could reach her with my processor. I was only able to establish a connection for the briefest of moments before its termination, but it seems vital information nonetheless.
She is, in some way, a machine of some kind. The very foundations of this world seem bound by the interplay of magic and technology. Perhaps she embodies both?
-
[A day or so later, as Osse's tears are washed from the streets and the warrior herself has returned to her lover's arms, Zenyatta adds an update.]
All is well that ends well, I see.
Yet I cannot keep from thinking, were Osse's actions truly the result of a simple malfunction- a rote series of actions programmed by her creators, gone rogue? Or was there within her a spark of something more that compelled her to act against her protocols?
It is often said that love is a kind of madness. [he hesitates, almost imperceptibly.] I have felt touched by it, too, on occasion. But one cannot experience madness without a mind, and I wonder... perhaps the scientists involved in her capture will allow me to attempt a second connection, in the future. Although I am hardly a match for her Fisherman!
[There is a more deliberate pause now.] What would you do for the ones you love?

To answer your question from one's own experiences...
It would seen that love cannot exist without a mind.
In that case, there is little doubt that Osse has a mind of her own, and is more than what she has been told to do.
Furthermore, if you were able to speak with her, and deduced this for yourself...
Then others should trust your experience and your conclusion.
You have been right before.

[and to what extent is love in humans just that, regardless? is it just chemicals and socialisation and and
He won't get into it, for the Hollow Knight's sake.]
You are kind, my friend. These questions are why I would very much like to interface with her again.

In that case, for her sake, I hope that you have a chance to do so.
Perhaps I could be of help to her also.

[After being nearly drowned thanks to a similar incident, Alphinaud looks a little worse for wear. He's completely drenched from head-to-toe, his white unruly hair tousled more than usual and out of its signature long braid. It looks as if someone tried to waterboard the poor boy but he's just another victim of Osse's madness.]
I cannot muster any surprise considering all the wonders I've witnessed thus far but I find it rather perplexing that something like this could happen in the first place. Osse's malfunction has brought Lunatia low, giving off the impression that our otherworldly benefactors lack the capabilities to control their creations.
[Excuse him if he sounds a bit bitter about all this but Alphinaud nearly saw his life flash before his eyes. The poor boy can't swim, unlike his sister. This was a truly harrowing ordeal.]
If "love" could cause all this chaos, then I think I've had my fill of love-stories.
voice → video;
So it seems. But is it fair to call Osse one of their creations? The technology that powers her appears to be a relic from a lost age. It is little wonder that even the experts here initially took her for a simple statue.
[Still, he can hardly hold Alphinaud's negativity against him, given the circumstances; he looks as if he has been half-drowned hmself.
Brightening, he adds-] But where would be the excitement in life without a touch of chaos to balance the order?
video;
This reminds me too much of the Allag Empire and their talent for merging both sorcery and technology. The similarities are just too obvious.
[Alphinaud blinks his eyes in surprise once he video feed turns on. It seems that he's speaking with some sort of...non-hume lifeform. It's a little startling abut no surprising.]
That poses the question as to who created her and why. She was far too destructive just to be some lovestruck marionette.
[His frown smooths into a humorless smile at the following comment. It seems that Alphinaud sees some humor in all this after all.]
Fair enough but I certainly hope this doesn't become commonplace. I'm not the most adept swimmer.

[voice] i just want an excuse to throw my characters at you more ok
... but what the hell. She needs to socialize anyway.]
You've been giving this a lot of thought, huh?
[newbie alert]
I've... never met a machine with a mind before. Or a living statue... until recently, obviously. But I guess... there's that whole "I think, therefore I am" thing, right?
GIVE IT ALL TO ME
I suppose I have! [It's kind of what he does.] But I believe it is useful, to share one's perspective in times of crisis.
[And he's not sure how many organic beings might be considering whether or not Lunatia has reached the singularity yet.
His voice softens as he continues, gently amused.]
Regardless, I am glad to be the first! As I understand it, I represent something of a distant prospect to most arrivals here.

[ It might sound harsh but...given where he's coming you can't really blame him. He also gives a pause. ] But as for your question I would do anything, really, for the ones I love and care about.

Ultimately, I believe so. Though it is difficult to take such a broad perspective where emotions are concerned. It is easy to feel that one has lost control entirely once we fall. [There's something there, a suppressed sigh one can hear haunting the way he speaks.] I have done and felt things that I have never experienced already in the name of love, many of which I would advice another against.
Perhaps that is why we fall in love in love in the first place- it allows us to feel we have absolved ourselves of responsibility for our feelings. And perhaps you are proving the point, too, if you say you would do anything yourself.

[ He sounds...tired just saying it. He's been through some shit and it's telling in his voice. I've made more mistakes than any man, woman, and child on this planet. Those words of his ring in his ears. But sometimes he wonders if loving her was a mistake. At the time, no, it wasn't. It was true and pure make no mistake, but as shown love is a powerful maddening force. ]
Perhaps you're right. But knowing and experiencing what you have now, with the knowledge that you have done things you'd advise against, would you still be able to absolve yourself in the name of it?
[ After all he lied and kept crucial information from the ones who trusted in him the most out of love and care for them. Thinking it was the better of two evils, but no, it certainly wasn't. So could he really absolve himself from what he had done? ]

I do agree that love can be a type of madness.
Love comes in all shapes and forms. It can bring the good and bad out of all of us.
I'm just as guilty! Love had made me do some rash things despite my intentions were in the right place.
[She remembers Hazen's scoldings and teachings. Ladiva pauses on typing to collect her thoughts before sending the next response:]
Perhaps instead of a mind, madness cannot be experienced without a heart.
The heart is a complicated thing. Even manmade, I do believe poor Osse had a lot of love in her heart for her darling.
I don't know if she has a physical heart and I don't know if her creators gave her the ability to love or she developed the emotion for herself. I'm afraid that I'm not expert on machines.
As for your question, I would do anything for my loved ones. Anything that is within my ability.
no subject
But that is a most interesting suggestion, my friend, and one with which I am inclined to agree. It is all semantics, but perhaps by a "heart", one might understand a "soul". Regardless, it is heartening, if you will excuse the pun, to think that love for one another is what truly makes us alive, isn't it?
It seems we are both hopeless romantics, in the end!

People that love me just as much as I love them.
A wise friend told me that it's important to choose a right way to show your love, even when our head gets put into the clouds. Of course, everyone has their own opinion on what is a "right way" to show love or navigate life.
Love is just a wonderful yet mysterious thing, isn't it?
I call myself a love guru, but even today, love continues to surprise me in new ways about people and life.
I am always fond of clever wordplay so puns never bother me at all! It does get a good chuckle out of me!
