02 | Video | For Those Who Think Sanguis

[Don is newly not furry but he's also looking annoyed and angry. His normally pristine features are grim. He's human - back to his handsome self but his hair hangs over his features and he's aggressively smoking a cigarette.]

So apparently I spend Sanguis as a bear thing. I know there's another fucking moon coming and I don't know what else is going to happen.

For the people who end up furry, you what - shave? And How do you handle clothing. Somebody ought to write a fucking book on this and let me publish it.

[He exhales smoke before taking another long drag on cigarette.]

And I'm not normally this open about this kind of thing but I need to moonlace. Bad. I'll buy you dinner and drinks. Or owe you in this case.

[He mutters something like takes all of the fun out of this before he sighs, leaning back and trying to relax.]

I suppose I can manage some hand-holding over drinks.

Get a lint roller. The kind for pet hair.

[Hand holding. Augh. He nods, but this is what it is to live here and well. He'll have to work twice as hard so it doesn't happen again but Sanguis apparently takes a lot out of him.]

Thank you. You have a place you prefer? I owe you one big time.

[Don's smile turns brittle]

Like the kind you'd get for a golden retriever?

[Good god. He has a dog back home. He bought one because the damn puppy hadn't stopped climbing on the couch.]

Yep. You'll need one if you're shedding, trust me. A good vacuum, too.

[Akira had to deal with this problem long before he ever set foot on Lunatia, he has experience.]

If it's any consolation the changes aren't always as intense every month. At least, that is how it has been in my experience.

[This is...not pleasant to think about. Staring at his hands he sighs.]

Vacuum, lint roller. Any advice on clothing? I mean obviously if that's going to get worse they don't make animal clothes so I don't need that.

[Dragging his bear-self around is going to be fun if that happens. He's missed Betty and the kids, but now he's actually glad that she's not here for reasons that don't entail him...

Brushing it out of his mind he makes several notes. Then, in an attempt at camaraderie.]

What happens to you?

[Well.

Don smiles weakly]

Not as intense? So I'm not going around looking like a child's teddy bear every month.

The rest of it wasn't that bad truthfully. I think we all need teeth and claws at some point.

[He chuckles at that, features amused.]

I turn into a big scary monster!

[He makes claw motions with his hands and bares his teeth like fangs, and then laughs.]

I'm Sanguis, like you. About clothes... do you just turn into a bear? Part bear?

If you're lucky.

[Um.]

I'm going to write the book. I've decided. "How to cope with being an animal every month."

[He frowns] The lucky part has me nervous though. What moon are you?

You may not be a bear every month. You might turn into a dragon.

Are you not a lucky man?

I'm blessed by Sanguis as well.

[Laughter might be the way to get out of this. He chuckles and makes his own face before switching it to private because - hell - turning into a monster is personal isn't it?]

Part bear? I think? I'm uh-

[He gestures] Taller. And broader. I don't fit through doors well. Pants...seem....to be okay. Shirts are a no.

You know it feels like it might be easier to be a full bear. I'd just be stuck in my apartment.

[He is a Lucky man. He's a very lucky man, he lives on luck. blessed by Sanguis though?

He studies her for a moment. IS he blessed? HE felt confident and self assured. He felt comfortable in his...big furry skin... then he ever have. and he was strong.]

Blessed?

How are you blessed?

Blessed is how they refer to us. Well, Moonblessed is the proper term they use for us. The point remains that the natives of this world see us as blessed by one of the three moons.

I don't exactly agree as it feels a bit more like some sort of curse.

( Call her a sucker for anyone upset; you wouldn't be wrong. The doctor has her apartment as a backdrop in a rare change of scenery, since it is almost always her clinic with a white lab coat on, but it's early afternoon and she's already home for the day, arm wiggling with the occasional little sound of... a puppy playing tug, apparently.

She looks otherwise serene with blond waves over one shoulder and a gifted Japanese lounge coat on in direct opposition to her clearly-Germanic looks and accent curling her syllables up at the ends. )

If it helps set your mind at ease, sir, we are only ever under the effects of one moon at a time. You have about ten days of peace until all three will be in the sky and the changes will come again. The bear traits are fairly new but there are already many shops who offer specialty items for other features and their necessary care. It sounds a bit silly to buy "horn polish" when you're not in a brass band, though, I'm sure. I can't say I've seen anyone shaving or accommodating much of anything besides their wardrobe, because the changes aren't always consistent and they do only last a few days. With a bit of looking, you'll be able to find whatever will help make you comfortable, I hope.

What sort of clothing issues did you have? I know I had to buy wide-necked sweaters and button-downs when I had antlers now and again, under Iris, but something shifted; I'm under Sanguis now, myself.

And if you don't mind a stranger's company— I'm a doctor, here. I would be more than happy to bring you something to eat and stick around until you're feeling better.

( Whatever that ends up requiring, which goes unspoken, but he'll figure out quickly enough that she isn't shy. She's been here too long to bother with that. )

[Akira hadn't meant for him to take the monster remark seriously, so he doesn't mind if it's private or not. Deflecting through humour is what he does best in these situations.]

Then just walk around shirtless. [A shrug. It's what Akira does when he transforms.] I think some places around here specialise in clothes for Moonblessed if you shop around, too.

[It's strange because looking at her he wishes the moon was back so he'd feel that extra boost of confidence. This is still more his speed and he laughs weakly, running a hand through his hair just so. Hair falls elegantly back into his face and he nods slowly.]

I still say someone should write a book but I'll keep my eyes peeled. Or at least do a little more investigating. It just sort of sprang on me this time.

[He shrugs.] Size. I'm at least two feet taller and wider and covered in brown fur. And paws and teeth and claws. But as a Doctor...could I trouble you for a glance over?

[And she'd bring him something to eat?]

I meant what I said about drinks though. ...Least I could do.

Going around shirtless when you're not at the beach is rude.

[He's making connections in malls though. If he's going to be stuck here and be a bear for parts of the month, he's going to be a dashing bear damn it.]

...But there are no other options I guess. Someone said bear features are new.

Believe me. I'm making notes about what's lacking in products around here. Trust me.

I spent most of my week covered in hair and resisting the urge to-

[Fuck. And Fight. A torn desire to do both. He has iron control over his will and resources.

He hesitates before pulling out a flash and taking a quick swig of it.]

...You're Sanguis too? Are you a bear?

Trust me, I understand the feeling when Sanguis is full. You should see how my apartment is covered in plant-growth because I couldn't really hold it in.

No, the red moon gives me sheep-like traits when I don't turn fully into one.

Plant growth? I thought Sanguis did fire stuff.

[He hasn't gotten any of that though. Unfortunately. He's just - completely destroyed his carpet and is currently in the process of replacing it with hardwood.]

[This smile is amused]

I have control over the grown of plants as a preexisting ability.

I'm also pink so imagine that.

[He holds up his hands] I don't mean to be offensive since that's a thing that happens with people I just figured I'd ask.

That's probably why you're a sheep though. Eating plants? I mean I spent the past week craving hamburgers and steak.

Ha ha, rough moon, I take it?
