I was wondering...if anyone would like to play a game! After everything that's happened I thought maybe something fun would be good to take people's minds off of things.
It's called word association and you basically start off saying a word and then the other person has to think of another word they associate with it! It's really fun, and I think everyone could learn a bit more about each other playing it. Feel free to play with each other too. I. I just want everyone to enjoy themselves. So I'll start with the word: white! Now you have to think of a word that you associate with it.
But! That's not what I...really wanted to talk about. I. I also wanted to ask if anyone would be interested in learning sign language. I know we can all understand each other inherently here, which is amazing, isn't it? People can understand speech and writing but I'm not sure I've met many people who know sign language off the bat. I...think that learning a new language might be fun for some people, right?
[ Maaaybe?! He's so bad at this. Maybe this wasn't a good idea?! He doesn't even know. He's awkward so please don't rag on him too bad!! He's so not good with addressing entire networks of people and offering to teach people stuff. ]
Anyway. If you have any questions, or would even like to offer up your own language to teach or learn...please don't hesitate to speak with me! It could be like an exchange of sorts! And we could have weekly meetings, it might be fun! [ Or not. ] Thank you for taking the time to read this, I really appreciate it!! And please have fun playing this game with one another!
[ Shigeru?! He forgot to mention to keep it PG-13, whoops. Please don't be too naughty. Think of the children!!
Ooc: assume this is after the Port Sylvel disaster! ]

We have a somewhat similar language on my world, but it's tactile, not visual.
no subject
[ Tactile, hm? ]
Is it something like...braille then? For people who can't see we use a board that has bumps on it and certain sequences of those bumps means words and letters.

Chirolinguistics, or speaking Hand alternatively, it is a language performed through hand contact. It communicates by stimulating the nerves in the fingers and palms.
no subject
It sounds really interesting! Do a lot of people from your world know it? Is it a common language to learn, I mean?
no subject
[After all, it requires the participants to hold each others' hands. Not many are into that.]
There are practical uses for such a language, after all. One can have a secret conversation. But in this world, it can particular useful way to gain Chroma while teaching others about my world's culture. [A perfect excuse to moonlace, basically]

I guess you're right! For a place like here that would be a really good way to communicate! [ Even if Shigeru inwardly cringes at the thought of it. Holding hands with random strangers is still a hard thing for him to do. ]
It's probably a silly question, but how do you translate and know what things mean? Is it just an inherent thing?
[ Is that a silly question? It might be, but Shigeru is just interested in how it all works. ]

The electrical pulses send into the neurocircuitry have a set pattern and intensity. I'd describe it more as a... feeling, than saying it's proper words. It is frankly difficult to describe without having you feeling it yourself.
Humans or other organic beings aren't able to generate said pulses or could survive without frying their nerves, I believe. I created special equipment that should be able to let organics speak back.
[And he's got a few students already, too.]

[ maaybe?! Shigeru just finds it fascinating regardless. ]
Do you think I could learn? I. I mean...I wear gloves all the time because of my...phobia. Can it still work through them?
no subject
[Hearing everyone's thoughts and emotions around you is way different than some electric going through the nerves.]
I see. The device is a pair of gauntlets, so you may need to remove your gloves to have it work. However, I could build one that works through them.
no subject
[ It's not a common thing in his world. ]
Oh! Well...I guess I could try without my gloves on. But it's a bit...uncomfortable.
But I'm willing to give it a try!
