audio | writing this post made me want pie
[what's up everybody, your texan boy is here
the audio starts with a telltale flick of a lighter, followed not long after by an exhale from the first drag of a cigarette]
You know what's a damn shame?
I been here a year and I still ain't found anywhere that makes decent pecan pie.
I know I can always make my own. Reckon I can't complain too much about not findin' hometown cookin' on an alien planet, but... mhn. Still miss that diner down on 71 towards Austin. Mateo made pie so good you'd climb a dang power pole for seconds.
General poll, 'cause I got nothin' better to do. You miss any kinda food from home? Diner cookin', mama's cookin', anything.

I haven't found the perfect pizza yet, though. I like coal-fired best.

Hm. I'm not picky about pizza when I think about it. Got used to some subpar stuff between jobs. I was a roughneck for about ten years. You'll eat anything some days.

Oh, I feel you on that one. I've eaten some real cardboard with calories. You were military, too, right?
no subject
Nope. Contract work. [which is a roundabout way of saying "mercenary"] I actually wanted to join the army when the war hit, but I was too young for it. Could have joined when I was sixteen with family permission, but my old man said no.
no subject
Could've still joined when you were old enough. Found you niche by then?
no subject
Yeah. The whole patriotism thing fell out of favor for me around the time I started roughnecking.

For me, it was more about protecting people. Not necessarily the best way of going about it, but that's what it was about for me. But I get where you're coming from, too.
