03 | Text: Marriage of Backstay Sailor Boys

[Someone has heard Rasha's voice, but for Don - well. Loving himself is pretty much par for the course.]

So back in my time we have this thing called the Mickey Mouse club. A whole bunch of kids who sing and dance about Mickey Mouse. He's got a song.

Who's the leader of the club
that's made for you and me
M I C - K E Y M O U S E

And so on, and so forth. he's a talking mouse and he's Disney is amazing. He's pretty damn fantastic. He's not as great as I am but he's still pretty damn good. Where was I.

Anyway this boy band thing for those who are curious seems like the Mickey Mouse club and all of you look stupid in your hats and T-shirts. No class. No style. Nobody has any idea what class or style looks like and the only thing you have to turn to is my era. We defined it.

We peaked in the 60s. I'm at the peak. All there is to it, but I thought I'd provide some insight. Namely that. Children are dumb. And that's what this is.

Well I was born before then so I'd argue we peaked with me but I like Mickey. Don't tell anyone. Even if I have great taste.

[Don gives him an address to a smaller bar then the one they went to before with Don in a booth towards the back smiling at a waitress with the look of a predator. He knows how to work his body, he knows how to work his shoulders and his figure and form and he knows how to be bad. He's never been able to be truly bad he has behaved.

Here though. He's a bear four days out of the month (or something else depending), he's in space, there's technology he couldn't dream of but he's feeling himself without being furry and he is...fucking gorgeous.

Smelling like success and expensive nights, dressed in a suit and studying Finn he smiles.]

...Hey! Come sit. Drinks are on me.

[ ... What the hell?

Finn wouldn't say he's uncomfortable, exactly. Just... extremely confused. Don hadn't looked at him like that before, nor had he constantly talked about himself before. Did this have something to do with that flirting scheme they pulled a few weeks ago? Or maybe Don was trying some new self-encouragement routine? He certainly didn't look drunk.

Oh, he's high. That's probably what's wrong.

Anyway, after staring in blatant shock and confusion for a couple of beats, Finn goes ahead and sits down. What else is he going to do? ]

Are you feeling all right? [ Bad question. The answer is clearly a strong yes. ] What have you been doing today?

Fine.

[He blows out a breath and shrugs his shoulders. He's a totally different person when ...this way. Charming, oozing charisma and the women who pass get looks that make them blush and turn their heads.]

Very fine. I was at that stupid concert with those kids for business. Always seek out media things son. You want to sell anything know the people. And...I walked out and I was - what do the kids say.

[He purses his lips thoughtfully, sliding an arm back to lounge.] feeling myself? Which is great because normally when I'm feeling myself I weigh half a ton and I'm a walking rug.

[He shrugs and grins.] What are you going to do? Not hiding this face behind teeth and fur right now huh?

Let's hit the town. Let me get you acouple of drinks and you can tell me how I'm going to paint the town red.

[ ... All right. Yeah, all right. It still seems a little excessive, but maybe something about youth and music has him feeling different tonight.

What other explanation is there?

Finn laughs and shakes his head. ] I'm going to tell you that, huh? I wouldn't say I'm an expert, but... yeah, it sounds fun.

Maybe we both need to get out more, anyway.

My dad would probably agree with you about the sixties being the best, but are you really comparing yourself to Mickey Mouse? Not even Walt Disney or someone?

As far as music, we did peak in the 60s, though the 70s and 80s did have some great rock bands.

As far as life and society though? Absolutely not. This thing you're using to type this out? We have this for real in 2020.

The boy band thing is a little bit more than 'children are dumb', especially because this one in particular seems to be attracting adults too. It seems to have created a form of mass psychogenic illness, or mass hysteria.

Well people watch American bandstand. The merchandise presents an intriguing idea to market them. But.

[And he snorts]

Not mickey mouse disney. Just Mickey mouse or mickey. He's a cartoon character. And he's got a...girlfriend? Wife? I'm honestly not sure she's a mouse. Minnie Mouse, Mickey Mouse. They've got a dog named pluto, there's goofy. Not sure what the hell Goofy is besides an idiot. They've got princesses too my daughter loves sleeping beauty. Keeps begging me to take her to Disneyland to meet her and Mickey Mouse.

The kids are just kids. With a fan club. They sing a song, wear mouse ears. Kids want to dress like Annette.

Doesn't work well without a picture.

[Don looks distant and a little sad] See a man can be measured by his sins and this - this life needs to be lived to it's fullest.

I had a terrible childhood and I mean - look at this face. And how far I've come I have come so far.

I'm comparing myself to Walt Disney what did I say? I mean Mickey Mouse works too it is a symbol kid. And Walt always says he's like Mickey and ever since hearing that music I mean.

I'm just as god. Hell I'm better than both.

[ His lips twitch a little, unsure what the sudden vanity is all about. ] All right, yeah. Let's figure out how to paint the town.

I'm incredibly handsome and incredibly good at advertising.

I'm also an excellent lover. I mean I have had teaching. Schooling even. No complaints from a single partner.

Look normally when I'm this confident I'm either selling a product or covered in fur so this...is a plus.

Besides. I'm not above demonstrating to prove a point.
