Well, congratulations, I suppose. I don't celebrate holidays.

I don't really, either.
But, well, who am I to ignore the whims of fate and reject a party horn placed so fortuitously upon my desk?

That's what they're called? I always called them noise makers.

I'm assuming someone else from your world must have placed it on your desk for the occasion, or else that's quite the coincidence.

Oh, not necessarily. I did fill out my birthday when I applied for a job here, so it was probably a co-worker with a sense of humour. :)

I figure that date still carries significance regardless of what world you're in.

Not that I even remember mine.

I'm a little too old for it to be relevant... but like I said, fate, party horn... you know the rest ;)

I don't actually know how old I am, so I couldn't say.

[He had a vague idea, but there were some years at some point in his life that had made him lose track of time, and by extension, a good chunk of his early childhood. He'd stopped trying to force himself to remember ages ago.]

Did you celebrate when you were younger?

Small things. Normally to give thanks to the Gods.

I've since grown out of that.

What changed that?

Life experience.

You're really on about being 'old', aren't you? Exactly how old do you need to be to end up that jaded?

For me?
It was when I was 33.

That isn't old at all. Sounds to me like it had less to do with age and more to do with significant life events.

That, I can relate to.

Well, the other 2000-odd years do add up.

But it's good to know I'm in with others who've had eventful lives!

I don't know how this place is still throwing me for a loop. I shouldn't be surprised, but here I am, shocked I'm talking to a 2033 year old man.

It's actually 2069 by my count now, but anything under a century is pocket change when you're waiting.

You know, there are far older beings here than I.

That's unbelievable.

I mean, I know it's probably true, but it's still unbelievable. As far as I know, no one in my world has ever lived much past 100. Is it common to live so long in your world?

Absolutely not!
I'm the cockroach that just won't die, I'm very afraid to say.
Everyone else has a nice, natural span - much like your own, with few living past 100.

I'm assuming something has kept you alive all this time?

[Now that Lio thought about it, he wasn't actually truly certain how long someone who was burnish could have lived. He wondered, if they'd remained synced with the Promare, if their regenerative properties might have allowed them to live for longer. It certainly hadn't stopped their aging, but injury and disease would never have been a concern.]
