[ To anyone else, it would be leverage. To Emet-Selch, who had become something his younger self would be horrified to discover were it shown to him? Ardyn understood. ]

I would rather remember my dashing drift partner the way he is now.

But on to more pleasant things! What sort of production do you fancy taking in together? I feel a good tragic romance might be just the thing, but perhaps you desire something more light-hearted?

[ Every time he could convince himself that, no, what he and Emet-Selch had wasn't really comparable at all... he spoke in such a way that made it more striking that it was. That was humbling, to be sure, but the worst of it was that it made his heart hurt for the man. Ardyn might have sighed, but it was rueful even so.

He really did have it bad, didn't he? Tut tut. ]

Why, you know, I'm in just the mood for a tragic romance!
Is there one playing in the coming weeks?

[So Ardyn understood. good. Even after all these months it was such a pleasant relief dealing with a mature individual.

Excellent. Yes, I believe I know just the thing. Some big production about a pair of star-crossed Sanguis who cannot for the life of them decide whether they wish to fight or to fornicate. The Prismals do have a way with plot contrivances! Mayhap we should make a wager on the ending.

Oh, marvelous!
My prediction is a fight scene with intense sexual tension mid way through the production, with a decision to come together despite it all towards the end.
Perhaps there is a handsome or beautiful Cordis, mayhaps Iris, who is in love with one of them.

Quite plausible!
I, for one, hope for at least one disagreeable arranged marriage, with families all in an uproar over any threat to the betrothal.

Oh, it's not a real star-crossed romance without the threat of that!
I imagine that they are arranged to an Iris if they are a Sanguis. It seems most fitting.
Perhaps a spunky Cordis friend of the opposite gender, who has their eye on their friend's object of desire?
