#001 | VIDEO (UN; PROFESSEUR)
[It's been a few days since Sycamore arrived in Lunatia, and he feels he's managed to learn the ropes well enough; there's been one thing that has stood out to him more than anything else, however. It's likely not what he should be focusing on, but...well, he's always believed in following one's intuition whenever it strikes.
When his image pops up, it's framed quite nicely, as if this isn't the first time he's spoken to others through a video network. He's seated himself in a quiet corner of Cafe Azure, leaning back in the chair and smiling softly into the camera.]
Salut! I do hope I'm doing this right.
[One moment! A waiter has appeared off-screen bearing a beverage, and the professor chats with them for a moment before he returns his attention to the feed.]
It's come to my attention that most people in this city have no idea what Pokémon are! Such an odd experience, but not an unwelcome one! I see this as an opportunity to educate those who are interested!
[Reaching underneath the table for a moment, he soon emerges with what looks like a small orange fox. Said fox is obviously very pleased with being on-camera, if the little pose it makes has anything to do with it. Sycamore, meanwhile, takes a quick sip of coffee after Fennekin has settled himself on the table, looking momentarily pensive.]
Ah, where to begin with such a topic...I am used to beginner trainers, yes, but not those who have no experience with Pokémon whatsoever! I have been mulling this over for a few days now-
[-while spending ample time in whatever café is nearby, because that helps the academic process-]
-and have decided that perhaps it would be easier if I gave anyone who was interested the chance to contact me personally!
[Smiling again, Sycamore pauses for a moment, as if finished...before slapping the table and surging forward towards the camera, scaring the life out of poor Fennekin-]
I cannot believe this! I have forgotten to introduce myself, amidst all this Pokémon-related excitement! I am Professor Sycamore, a researcher from the Kalos region! It would truly be my pleasure to share my knowledge with any of you who are interested in learning more about these wonderful creatures we call Pokémon! Let me give you an introduction-
[...or not, because as soon as Sycamore is ready to launch into his monologue, two more Pokemon pop up into the video...before the latter one accidentally bumps the camera and switches it off.

..Is what she would say, if she had more understanding or experience of the world he was from originally. To find such joy in your work is a blessing, and it is clear that he is dedicated.
Plus evolving mobs showed up in side content for an expansion she's not even in]I am not bored at all, ser. I appreciate that you are taking the time to share this with me, whatever the context involved.
So you in fact study the nature of this bond, and how it is linked to "mega" evolution? Does it only occur during later stages of their natural evolution? Or are there side effects to it? Would it cause them to lose the form they've aleady gained?

You are most welcome! Thank you very much for listening. I apologise if I get a bit over-excited, but I do love this topic!
To answer your (excellent) questions; from what I have observed, it can only occur for a Pokémon that has completed its natural evolution cycle, i.e. is in its final form! There are also Pokémon who have no evolutions, however, and some species with that trait can perform it as well! For now, only a small number of Pokémon from that 700 I mentioned are capable of it, but who knows? Perhaps, unbeknownst to us humans, every Pokémon has that potential, deep inside! They might just need the right trainer to unlock it!
How I wish I had some pictures to show you...but! Your final question there, about them losing the form they have already gained - they do change quite considerably, physically, but only for the duration of the battle in which their trainer has activated Mega Evolution! After that - somehow, and how I wish I could explain how - their new features disappear, and they revert back to how they were before. It is truly so fascinating!
[...oh look, he's rambled again...]
Ah, I am a self-fulfilling prophecy...look at me, chattering away! I do hope that answers your questions, regardless!

It does, and you have my thanks, ser. I confess, I do not quite follow all of what you described, but that may well mean these are things I must see with mine own eyes.
I must ask.. How do you know a creature is a "pokémon"? And what is the difference between the study you do, and being a "trainer"?
no subject
Well, you are more than welcome to come and see the Pokemon in person! Alas, none of them will be able to mega evolve - I'm not capable of performing it myself, and they are far too young! - but I think you will enjoy the experience regardless. It's always easier to teach using physical examples, no?
[oh right, there were some more questions there-]
As for knowing a creature is a Pokémon, well! Where I come from, all our creatures are Pokémon! So I have never had to think about such a thing....what excellent food for thought. I must admit, I have no idea! This is fantastic! I will be thinking about this for a while!
[-LET HIM ANSWER THAT LAST QUESTION BEFORE HE ENDS UP ON ANOTHER TANGENT-]
Before I forget; a 'trainer' of Pokémon is someone dedicated to battling with their team, but we use it as a fairly catch-all term for anyone with Pokémon companions capable of battle! For myself, I don't tend to call myself a trainer all that often, as I am not so tough and prefer my research. But it's a broad term!
I feel I must apologize for flooding you with all this information. You ask such intelligent questions, though!
