How do I become Iris? Do I need to pray to the moons or something like that?
I know some people have changed their moonblessing.

Does anyone know? Asking for myself, not a friend.

Fair enough. Without Jessie, he's probably going to have some trouble keeping everything afloat. Hopefully he's making enough chroma to compensate, right?

Most recently I believe was putting a stop to the Ruby Weapon. Gaius' old project has come to haunt him and the rest of Eorzea, I'm afraid.

[ He doesn't need to know about all that First shard stuff, or about the Exarch, nah. ]

Far be it from me to make speculations about his personal life, but I can't imagine he's having an easy go at the whole Chroma thing.

[ And he could actually make further rude speculations but then Qih'sae is dropping a massive surprise into the chat. ]

Well, I've slept with him and I think he and Aymeric had a go at it too, so I don't know about that.

I thought perhaps you knew, since he'd had some hand in it before he came to Eorzea. Were you aware of the Weapon project? I forget if there was another name for it, but I know they started with Ultima and have since been working on more and more prototypes since then.

The Ruby Weapon was a ghastly thing, it wasn't so much controlled, as powered by... a living person. More than that, they tried to merge that person with the memories of Nael van Darnus into it, to fuel its power further.

[ How is finding out way too much about who Garlond is screwing not the most alarming turn that this conversation has taken? How? He is just not going to even dignify that part with a response.

He takes this conversation to Qih'sae's inbox, rather than having it out in the open. ]

My involvement with the Ultima Weapon project came to a sudden end when you and your lot went and destroyed the thing. For all that I've kept a wary eye turned towards Garlemald, I've had my own projects to contend with. I shouldn't be surprised that they've continued to put my findings to use, but I will admit to some alarm at what they seem to be using for the power source. A living person? What in the blazes sort of person would even be capable of that, other than someone like yourself?

And I do not even know where to begin with the whole Nael van Darnus thing. Where would they even have gotten such a thing from that madman?

It's very bad, that's for sure. The empire has succeeded in artificially creating a power similar to the Echo, though it's cost them countless of lives to achieve it. There seems to be no boundary they are unwilling to cross in the pursuit of more power.

That's a good question. I can't begin to guess how they went about fusing a dead person's memories into the mind of another person, unless they'd somehow saved them from when Nael was alive... Even still, memories are not so easily tampered with. It seems like the Empire finds new ways to outdo its own atrocities each day.

That, I'm familiar with. The Resonant project, yes? Messy business. And you think that they've gone and cooked themselves up another resonant, and loaded them into shiny new Weapon?

What I want to know is why Darnus in particular? Other than a mad sort of determination, he'd not had much going for him tactically that couldn't have been better done by at least half a dozen others of similar rank and experience.

Last I knew, at least. Are there perhaps things that I've not been party to?

[ Nero's poking about Cartineau had been very single-minded, half out of passion and half out of the risk involved. Perhaps he knows more than he should... but he certainly knows less than an accomplished Warrior of Light ~~that has cleared Coils~~ would. ]

I don't think the poor girl was resonant, but it wouldn't surprise me if the same power was used. Then again, they succeeded with Zenos and to some degree, Fordola, so it's possible they're handing it out to whoever can survive the process. I wouldn't exactly be surprised if that were the case.

Oh, you must not have heard about the Binding Coil. Nael was involved in the Dalamud Project, and wound up tempered by Bahamut. My fight with the Ruby Weapon was somewhat akin to my battle against them there... which makes even less sense, as it would mean the Empire somehow had access to what occurred within those ruins...

Gods, the more I think about it, the less I want to think about it.

This far away from it all, all we can do is speculate just how they did what they did. Damn it all, now I've got the itch to go wandering around Cartinau again...

I am not as surprised to hear about Darnus's fate as I ought to be. Again, this raises questions that I would normally be very eager to pursue the answers to. This is a terrible distraction. I think you owe me a drink for bringing it up.
