It was September '98, after STARS got disbanded. There wasn't really anything I could do after that, and the city wasn't exactly safe, so I went back to university.
The last I knew, only you and Brad were still in Raccoon.

I remember that. But you're right, we both were. Things escalated fast. Umbrella sent a creature to finish off STARS. Brad was killed.
I was too tenacious to let it get to me, even though I was infected. I was administered a vaccine that was still in trial period; it did it's job, but I didn't realize until later that the virus was dormant.
It's when I met Carlos. He was working as part of Umbrella's personal mercenary group, but he thought he was there to save people. They lied to him.
We grow close quickly. We helped each other and managed to make our way out together.
I don't think either of us would have survived otherwise. Especially knowing how disposable everyone is to Umbrella.
Probably better to say this in person, but I guess it's easier to sort the words out like this and not embellish too much. Did you know Leon (and Chris's sister) were in Raccoon at the same time? We literally just missed one another. Funny how that goes.

[ Jill is just glad they didn't stalk Rebecca. Perhaps they hadn't had her name on the roster, especially since there was no group photo involving her. Jill's grateful for that. ]
Same. He's not... the same one I knew. The one I knew was more clean-cut. Still a big guy. Big as Chris. He gave up a lot for me and could've been hit just as badly as others by Umbrella. He has a moral compass like most of us in STARS did. You can trust him, just so you know. I'd stake my life on it.

If you say I should trust him, then I trust him. We haven't had much of a chance to talk yet, but I'm going to let him know how much I appreciate what he did.
...even if it still feels weird, trusting ANYONE from Umbrella.

He's kind.
I felt the same. I hated him and tried to get him to understand immediately, but he had no reason to believe me. Then he saw the people they were slaughtering and realized he was disposable, too.
It took a bit to get on, but I think that's what makes our friendship stronger.

What still pisses me off is knowing all the time I stayed behind in Raccoon, that every answer I needed was just below the city. I knew the sewers pretty damn well, too.
Maybe better I didn't know. Not sure I could've handled a Tyrant on top of whatever was left behind down there.
