At the point in time I come from, we hadn't yet gone beyond our own solar system just yet. There was a lot we were still researching.

( but. hm. there's a pause because he's definitely thinking this over, hating that he came to the same conclusion. )

You know, I was wondering the same thing, that it was some kind of alternate reality or something like that. Glad I'm not the only one who thinks so.

I feel like no matter how far we go, there's always a lot we'll still won't know. We can't even know how big the universe truly is.

You're not, no. I'd be surprised if we were the only two who thought that, honestly.

Alternate realities have been just part of fiction, not something with real scientific data. Or, I guess, that's what we thought. I didn't know until recently that they really do exist. But, there's a lot of that going on in deep space, things that people on Earth have no idea about.

Can't say it's as much fiction where I'm from, not even theory. In fact, I come from a diverging timeline, that came to be through a time travel mishap. There's an original reality that we some information on thanks to that person who traveled back in time and caused the timeline to split, thus creating an alternate reality.

That's pretty interesting! Do you know how they caused it? So far I've learned that the ones that have occurred have been due to trans-dimensional comets. I'm sure there are other ways, but speaking with the only one who knows more about it is... insufferable.

Well, the time travel was accidental. Two ships got caught up by a spacetime tunnel that showed up near an artificially created black hole, and they ended up traveling back in time. The first ship to go through the tunnel came out over 150 years before, exactly on the day I was born. The other fell out of the tunnel about 25 years later. It was the appearance of the first ship that introduced enough changes to cause our reality to deviate, thus creating the alternate reality.

( this stuff is so interesting to him and there's probably a million questions he could ask, but he doesn't want to come across weird or too excitable or whatever. but, because of that last bit, he has to ask at least one more question. )

Does that mean your realities co-exist?

[winscenario]

All realities co-exist. Everything happens everywhere all at once. We don't hop back and forth between the two realities as we please, though, if that's what you're really asking. Maybe in a distant future that'll become a possibility, but science isn't quite at the point where we can make that happen, let alone control all the variables.

No, I know they co-exist. It sounded more like they aligned in the same plane of existence, but I may have misunderstood. At any rate, I feel like it's just asking for trouble if people learn to move easily between realities.

That's true, I can't even imagine the mess. But yes, it's more or less like they exist in parallel planes of existence, though not necessarily the same. Through the information given to us by one of the people who crossed over to our reality, we've come to learn of at least one other alternate reality that exists out there, though that one is a direct opposite to our own. I haven't had any personal experience with it, myself.

I haven't either; my team crossed over into one before and met an alternate reality me while learning that things were different, yet still somehow the same, just trading one bit of tyranny for another.

Damn. Sounds unpleasant. Personally I'm glad I have nothing to do with that mirror reality, the small bit of information we got about it wasn't pleasant at all.

Hopefully neither of us will have to deal with that around here, either.

( shiro doesn't either, but it seems to follow him around more than he'd like. but anyway, that date should work since it'll be after the triple moon, too. he'd rather not meet someone new during that and cause a scene.

Yeah, that sounds perfect. Did you have a preference? In spite of being here for a handful of months, I still don't really know too many places.

[ Jim's been personally involved in a few scenes with Sanguis, so far. He knows how to deal with them, mostly... and honestly, he doesn't mind them that much either. ]

I know a few bars. Guess it depends on the mood you're going for. Some are quieter, cozier and a little more intimate. Others are a little louder and the tables more out in the open.

[ AKA would Shiro be interested in a friendly outing or more of a casual date attempt. Jim is evidently more than fine with either. ]
