I can't say it is quite what I was expecting...
[As she starts to record, Padmé offers a gentle smile. She is dressed in a manner that is known in her own galaxy but which might well seem a bit strange to others. Yet they are clothing of a style that she dons on a regular basis to Senate meetings- a thick rich layered gown of velvet with an ornate hair piece haloing her head.]
While I'm not certain how long I will remain here, I do admit that I haven't been planet-bound since I was younger, and even then, it was due to schooling.
[Her voice is soft but also strong and those brown eyes are drawn away from the feed, regarding the sky for a moment. It is an atmosphere that holds no meaning to her, at least as its stands, but there are some things in this place that she can understand, that are universal no matter where one is. She does begin to speak again, her focus still out there on that great unknown, wondering just what lays beyond... Yet her gaze is drawn back and she gives a little nod of her head, before making eye contact again.]
But hello. My name is Padmé Amidala, a Senator for the planet of Naboo, and I offer a greeting. It seems, if I am to understand correctly, that we are all here by the same means, caught in the same situation.
Since it seems I will be here for some time, I would be interested to hear more about the places you call home, for any willing to share.
[There is a genuine warmth in her voice and her smile grows.]
I would, of course, speak of my own as well, for those who wished to hear of it. I am curious to see just how far a reach this place has, and whether Naboo or Coruscant or even any of the other planets that make up the Galactic Republic are known to anyone here, as the galaxy is a very expansive place, to put it mildly.

[ He says "others" rather than "aliens," as it seems a little more polite.
Archangel smiles in appreciation to her answer. ]
No, it seems you understand my meaning well enough. [ His hand lifts to set it against his chest. ] I am a leader of people, too. Archangel is a title that has taken my name. It shows my dedication to watch over my people and the world.
[ That's... more or less true. He continues: ] So, it warms my heart to know that in another galaxy far, far from my own... that those in power believe as I do. That our power is meant to protect those that cannot protect themselves. That the ultimate goal of those that can is to make a safe and peaceful world.

Hmm. Does your region of space have a name? The system or sector?
[Ah. She nods.]
I wish I could say that all Senators and Representatives feel the same, but that would be a lie. We do try, those of us who do believe in the system.

[ He gives a small shrug. ]
It's unfortunate that is a lie. [ His eyes close as he breathes out slow. ] Power entices people. It sings a song to them and they use it however they see fit. Those under their control can only endure what they decide to do.
[ He shakes his head. ] It's not right, but I'm glad that you and those like you try to do what you can.

I won't say that no one where I am from has never heard of it, but it is not an area that would be commonly known, if some have been there.
[She knows that well enough. Her own words have always moved others, riled them up, or gotten them to see reason. Padmé has no desire to use that for her own benefit though, above bribes and bullying.]
It would be a sad day if there wasn't. Yet I would hope that such a thing would never come to pass, that there would always be those that strive for it.

It can only stop if those in power are willing to stop those that would abuse it. Though, I fear that would only cause conflict which people wish to shy away from... but ... Senator, do you think that's right?

[Large, and loud... Yet it is better than alternatives that she can think up. A dictatorship would not care in the least about individuals, and while she thinks that the Republic can work better, it at least does aim to aide others.
There is a wry smile, as Padmé has never shied away from anything.]
Some instances require you to bend, but one should never break.

[ He offers her a slight smile in turn. ]
I can't say that what you're saying isn't true. Yet sometimes... those feel like needless surrenders. [ His eyes close and shake his head. ] I've grilled you enough on this topic. I'm sorry... it is one that I hold near and dear to my heart.

[Her voice seems to say that she does acknowledge that there are those who have a distasteful view of Senators.]
no subject
[ He laughs a little bit before he clears his throat. ]
A statement like that would work well in the movies, I'm sure, but in truth... it's good to know that you have not lost yourself to wolves, Senator.
For there are wolves that would believe that peace is an impossibility if it means that they can live better than those below them.

[An impish smile in turn, although she gives a hum.]
My planet is blessed in many ways. We've always had enough to eat and it's moderate in temperature. We can do better, as well, but there are some that simply cannot see beyond themselves. But, there are also those who, despite living in harsh conditions, still offer shelter to strangers. It is actions like those that I like to recall.
no subject
[ He actually mimes lifting a champagne glass. Archangel only pauses after the action to wonder if she caught the reference as to what he is doing. ]
I would like to recall them, as well. It says that no matter if a person is alien or human... we are made for kindness and wish to extend that out to others.

I believe one day... a world like that will come to being. It's what keeps me going forward.
no subject
[Offering a fond smile.]
no subject
[ .... ]
And you? What keeps you going forward as a senator?

Could you tell me more about it?

[Which does put it in the most basic of terms. She's not even certain if she could explain it all to anyone's satisfaction, as she had been against raising an army in the first place, let alone war.]
Thousands of star systems had seceded from the Galactic Republic, and pledged their loyalty elsewhere.
no subject
[ Interesting, to say the least. ]
I take it that they were unhappy with how the Galactic Republic did things. But putting it like that is making it too simple. [ Thousands of star systems, hm? Really free will was a mistake to give the people. ]
I hope that they will think of trying for peace before they do anything rash.

[Many voices... Some do form alliances of equal minded individuals. There are those who stand true, and those who can be bought.]
I do hope so, but given how entrenched we are, I do not know what the future holds.
no subject
I suppose there will have to be loss of life. How unfortunate.
[ But with the end goal being peace, who cares how many people die? ]

I fear egos get in the way of good sense.
