004 » Video; UN: Persephone

[ This is something Persephone probably should have done a few months ago.

There is a very pink young woman on the screen. She gives a sheepish little wave as she smiles.

] Hello, my name is Persephone and I'm the Goddess of Spring back home. Yes, I'm an actual goddess, it's not just a title. Yes, I am as pink as I appear, I'm not sunburned. [ Her gaze drifts away from the camera as ticks off things that have been brought up to her. Her tone is cheerful. ] And yes, for the humans from various different versions of Earth, I am the Persephone of Greek Myth. But the stories you know are wrong...to an extent. If you have any questions pertaining to that I'll do my best to answer them.

Also, you don't have to treat me special or anything just because I'm a goddess! I'm really normal aside from the fact I randomly grow flowers in my hair sometimes. [ It's really not that random. ]

A-anywho! I'm making this post for a reason beyond that. One, I'm curious if there are any other deities from other worlds here. I've met one and spoke with another, though I believe she's gone now. If you are a deity I'm curious how being here has affected your abilities. I-if you wish to share, that is!

For anyone else, I'd like to hear about the gods of your world. If you have them.

[ Noooooo. Persephone can't handle the compliments and now she's trying to hide just how much she's blushing by grabbing a blanket that's on her couch and pulling it up over the lower half of her face.

After a moment she manages to recover enough to lower the blanket and speak, though her cheeks are still burning. She thinks for a moment before offering an apologetic smile. ]

I'm not really sure how to answer that.

Nice to meet you.

[ She smiles but that fades to an expression of confusion. ]

I'm...sorry?

Yeah. Though they could certainly use that power for something less nice if they wanted.

[Did he overdo it? Oops, there's a built of guilt on his side but he just hums to himself as he waits for her. A careful eye might notice there's a little less joy in his voice this time;]

Oh! You know, what do you have to do? If there's gods and goddesses, it means there's humans too, right?

[Maybe?]

[ She's still not used to people thinking she's beautiful and is very prone to blushing. It's embarrassing to her. ]

O-oh! Well, I just make flowers grow, though I recently started college, before coming here, so Mo-- my mother has been taking care of my duties for me.

[ She nods, relaxing now that he isn't going on about how pretty and cute she is. ] That's right.

[ minako looks like she's straining to listen to something for a moment, when there's... no one else there. ]

Orpheus. Mistress of Strings, went to the underworld, you know. [ yeah, myth orpheus is a dude, that's not important. ] An aspect of her... kind of lives in my head? Long story, it has to do with how gods and legends work in my world. Um.

I guess she has some... baggage, about you and Hades? I don't know? [ she looks faintly confused about it herself as she says it. in minako's book it was orpheus's own damn fault for looking back, really, but... ]

[ Well, that just confuses Persephone even further. ]

I'm sorry, I don't know an Orpheus. [ This is certainly not a myth anyone has brought up with her. Everyone is so focused on the kidnapping and marriage. ]

And I've only just begun working in the Underworld as an intern.

[If only he'd knew...nah he'd probably continue a little more. Sorry.]

I didn't know gods got to go to college. [That's not fair.] I think growing flowers is a great power. You can make them bloom everywhere and people smile because the world is more beautiful for it.

[A pause.]

...Well unless you're allergic to certain flowers.

[ wait, when did he get back??? ]

Ryoji, behave. [ still, she can't shake the smile on her face. it's entirely possible this is minato's ryoji and not hers—kind of a cointoss, even—but that doesn't matter. ]

Yup! As I said, I'm pretty normal.

[ She hadn't really thought about that before and now she feels a little guilty. ]

Oh... I guess I'm to blame for making some people's allergies act up.

Normal in yours! [He smiles again.] As for the allergies, well that's okay...the world isn't perfect. That's why I like it so much. This world too, there's so much too do and they even give you a free place to say...I'm sure if I got to see yours, I'd love it as well.

[ She frowns. She's not sure she'd call herself normal back home. Subpar, maybe. ]

Still, I feel a little bad now.

I'm in my apartment right now, if you want to see more... [ She leans out of frame so the camera focuses on the wall behind her. It was just a blur of green, pinks, and purples before, but now it's clearly a wall of plants. Vines and small trees growing against the wall and completely covering it with flowers and leaves. It's chaotic but at the same time almost seems purposeful.

She leans back into frame. ]

That's just a little bit of the living room. Probably the only interesting thing to see here.

Intern? [ that's not phrasing she'd expected, and it catches her off guard enough that she smiles. minako's just going to mentally flip the card to bring metatron to the forefront of her mind, she'll take that over orpheus right now. ]

You weren't kidding when you said the stories didn't apply to you, huh? But... uh, yeah! Gods and heroes are...real in my world, but it's complicated? They're parts of the human unconscious... like, reflections of the soul.

[ She nods. ] Hera insisted it'd be a good challenge for me.

Yeah. I mean... I was kind of kidnapped but it was completely by accident. Aphrodite was offended and found a way to get me drunk and into the back of Hades' car. He didn't even find me until he was already back home.

[ Her cheeks are burning hot pink as she speaks. ]

That's interesting.

Well, I say it would be worse if you didn't. [For a goddess to feel empathy...that is rather nice.]

I! Oh that's not what I-- [But ahhh, that's really pretty actually and he stops speaking looking at the plants's cacophony that seems control. It makes sense, in a way and by the time she's back he briefly laughs.]

Oh no, I meant your world back home! I'm sorry. But I'm not going to complain seeing your apartment. It's very pretty.

Oh!

[ Well, now she feels dumb. ]

I grew up in the Mortal Realm, which I've been told is Ancient Greece, so if you know anything about that you can get an idea of it. And Olympus is kind of like this place though less advance.

Unfortunately, mortals aren't allowed in Olympus.

[Please don't be, he enjoyed it very much.]

I do! That was a long time ago in my world. So it's all neon and fancy?

I figured that would be the case!

[There's a few seconds where he fumbles with his equipment so he can make this private. He thinks he's got it? Probably.]

I don't think I could travel there anyway but if I could, that won't be a problem.

[(✿◡‿◡)]

Maybe a little fancy but I wouldn't say the neon colours are as common.

[ She doesn't change any of the settings to private but she'll try after this if his response seems like the kind of thing he doesn't want everyone knowing. ]

What do you mean?

Umm...well it's a little embarrassing...

[Especially that even if they aren't related, and from different worlds but some of the pantheon would be familiar.]

I'm not a mortal either. I'm Death in my world.

[Look at this tall lanky boy who is apparently Death.]

I was meant to bring the Fall by awakening Nyx.

[He holds up his arms.]

But it's okay, I was defeated by a miracle!

[Oh. Okay.]

[ Oh, yeah, definitely switching over to private as he had. Maybe had?

It's so hard to tell. ]

Oh. Your world certainly is different.

[ She kind of knows who Nyx is and has met Thanatos, he's actually her coworker, but she's not aware of his parentage. ]

So you didn't go around collecting Shades to bring to the Underworld?

No. I'm the culmination of shadows...the appraiser of the Fall.

[He doesn't sound too happy about it.]

The only reason I have a human form and emotions is that ten years ago, I was sealed inside of a human in their attempts to stop me. I grew alongside him, and then regained consciousness as pieces of myself were last year returned. That's why I got to like flowers! And people! And maybe snooping on girls bathing.

In the end, I returned to my true form, knowing that the fall inevitable and everything was going to die...but then a miracle happened. It was postponed. Hopefully forever. Then another miracle, and I arrived here, where I got to see him alive again, and still having my human-like form. And another piece of myself too, from another world where it wasn't him, but a her.

[!!! oh no he's rambling.]

Sorry! That's probably a lot of boring details.

I agree.

...Ukemochi is probably the strangest one I can think of. The goddess of food. She's s'posed to have created rice, the fish 'n the game animals for us to eat.

By spewin' them from her mouth. [ Yep. She heard that right. ]

I'd like to know how some of these stories come to be.

[ Persephone sits and listens without interrupting him. It seems like the kind of thing he's needed to get off his chest. She wishes she could do more than listen, maybe give him a hug or hold his hand.

Although if she could make out the bit about snooping on girl bathing she might give him an earful for it. Sure, she doesn't have any qualms about bathing with other people but snooping is rude!

When he's done she gives him a sympathetic smile. ]

It's okay. I don't mind listening if you need to get something off your chest.

Well...I suppose that's one way to populate the world.

[ Strange as it is. ]
