[Video] UN: dirtoffyourshoulder

[The camera's a little shaky since Allie's holding it in one hand in front of her, sitting in one of the plastic seats in the employment office. Her brow is beetled beneath the brim of her black ball cap, frustration lining the creases in her face.]

Awright, so before I go fillin' out a buncha paperwork, how many people even have cars and bikes that could use a mechanic? 'Cause the models they got here are way fancier and techy than whatever we had rollin' around back home.

[The camera moves again as she props her elbow up on her knee, dropping her chin into her other hand with a frown quirked to one side.]

If this doesn't shake out, I can work some odd jobs if anyone's hirin'. Uhhh...last job was a camera operator, before that I stocked shelves on the graveyard shift. Current job before showin' up here was clearin' out ghosts and stuff, but I don't see that bein' a hot business.

[This guy looks barely old enough to run his own business, and for some reason has hair as white as snow and canine teeth that are certainly longer than most humans, but he does give an friendly if awkward smile at the start.]

Uh, what're your thoughts on food service? 'cause I kinda just lost one'a my employees...

[He better not be a vampire or a shitty demon. Allie can't really tell if he's oozing with bad mojo without being physically near him, though. As for his question, her mouth quirks further to the side.]

Not really good at the whole customer service thing. Could wash dishes and clean up for closing, though.

[He's a shitty demon by the virtue of not being at all like demons normally are?]

That's somethin' I need, yeah. There's a back kitchen where you wouldn't have to deal with customers, too.

[She brings her head all the way back before dropping it forward in a thoughtful nod, pursing her lips. Dishes aren't that glamorous, but it beats the hell out of customer service and dealing with people who might irritate her.]

What's the pay? Any meal discounts?

Well, yeah. Of course. Ain't gonna make someone work in a restaurant then expect them to pay for their own food from it.

You missed the ghosts by about seven months. Then again...they might still be having that haunting problem in the library on Iris.

[She seems to be considering how to respond to that, idly reaching her free hand back to pick at a thumbtack in the corkboard behind her.]

Never heard of seasonal ghosts before.

[They're definitely not gone, she's seen that much. Makes her wonder why they're docile now. Something must have agitated them if their presence was publicly noticed.]

That's the moon, right? What's up with the library now?

That was during a holiday that's analogous to Halloween. The barrier between the living and spiritual worlds are said to be thinner during that time of year, so it's easier for ghosts to affect the living.

The library, though...it's on the pink moon, yes. People who spend too much time there have been seeing things moving on the scrolls, hearing phantom noises, and people who still don't leave feel compulsions toward mischief. None of it has been dangerous that I've heard of, but it makes research pretty hard.

Huh.

[She wonders if that holds true in Portland during Halloween too. Guess she'll find out eventually.]
