I've found myself with more free time than I know what to do with in the evenings.

[Which is to say, he's sleeping as little as humanly possible for the foreseeable future.]

I may as well do something productive with that time, right?

So I was thinking that I would be interested in learning a new language. Or maybe two, though I feel as if learning one at a time may be better. If anyone would be willing to teach me theirs I would appreciate it.

I am also interested in taking up new hobbies if anyone has any suggestion. I have a special interest in engineering and medicine, but in truth my interests are fairly eclectic.

Oh, and I was considering building a new chicken coop for our two hens. I don't suppose anyone has any advice on that? Or on raising chickens in general. I've done a bit of reading but I would enjoy hearing from people who might have more practical experiences.

[He just wants things to do to pass the time since he doesn't have enough to do here compared to back home where he had so many schemes going...and he needed the distraction.

Also, despite his attempts at depriving himself entirely of sleep, he's posting this at a very reasonable hour in the morning...or rather, he's purposefully posting at a reasonable hour so hopefully no one will suspect anything was wrong.]

I don't see the point in being annoyed. If it bothers them so much they could solve the problem by learning to sign.

[But then, he was always that sort of person. The one who looks for solutions rather than indulging in negative emotions.]

These lessons would probably be best done in person. Is there any place you'd like to meet?

I. I guess you're right. But asking people to learn a whole other language for me is... [ ah it's awkward and he feels guilty to even ask something of that caliber from anyone. ]

I'm used to so it's not really a big deal to me! Though I think everyone should learn different languages in general. It really opens up door for when traveling and stuff. [ A pause as he types again. ]

The planet I'm from is called Kasuitiga.

And I'd love to meet in person! The library or...my apartment is best for me.

In the end, it is their choice to learn or not, but I find it both unreasonable and self-centred to be annoyed about something that you cannot help and that they could fix.

[People like that, he doesn't add, don't seem worth knowing.]

I would be interested to learn more about the place you came from, as well.

The library seems like a good place to start.

Lots of people have...said the same thing, about not associating with people like that. I guess it's for the best then that I...don't really talk to them. It used to be harder when I was kid and wanted to fit in, but nowadays it doesn't really bother me as much anymore.

[ Of course on a personal level Shigeru wishes he was normal and could just engage in conversation normally, but that's neither here nor there. ]

I'd really like that then! Would you like to meet now? Or some other time, maybe?

There are many things that we found important in our youths that we learn to let go of as we grow up. Including people who aren't worth our time.

[He says even though he's never quite...managed to let go of anything like that. But in his case, that person who wasn't worth his time had raised and abused him. He no longer cared about her but it was true that he never stopped fearing her.]

You're definitely right about that. I guess some people are just unwilling to learn and change and that's fine. [ What are you going to do, right? ]

And, um, I have...markings that glow on my face. But also blonde hair and glasses!

[ It sounds so strange to say that but that's really a telling giveaway. ]

Those are very recognizable features.

I have long dark hair and I'm tall.

[He'd mention his preference for clothes that look like he came from a period drama...but this person has already said he isn't from Earth so how helpful would that be, exactly? He'll just have to be on the look out since he feels like his own description isn't as useful.]

[ He's so embarrassed, ugh why. He hates that he has them and yet... ]

That's right! Shigeru Miyata! But just Shigeru is fine!

[ Shigeru sure is...good at this socializing stuff. A+. ]

My name is Li Min. It's rather uncommon where I'm from for people to refer to someone they just met by anything but their full name.

But personally, I don't really mind about these things. Whatever you'd prefer to call me is fine.

[Also like...naming conventions are so complicated where he's from...he wouldn't blame people for not wanting to deal with it.]

[ Hm. Well maybe he'll just go with Li then? ]

Yes that's fine! I'll be there shortly!

[ And true to his word Shigeru will arrive at the library, markings aglow in their normal prismatic hue, as he looks around for the other man. He doesn't normally visit the library, it still gives him anxiety, but he's at least trying new things and getting better at stuff like this.

It's definitely easy to spot him as he wanders a little around the entrance, trying to not make himself too noticeable because he really hates the attention his markings often give him. ]

[The markings do make him easy to spot, at least. Still, when Chang Geng moves closer it's without anything even remotely like rushing. Instead he walks at a sedate pace.

He is...of course, dressed like he walked out of a Chinese period drama, with the long hair and everything.

He smiles, gentle and mild.]

Shigeru?

[ Wow! Shigeru's never met anyone dressed like that before. He's a bit...mesmerized if he's being honest. But he realizes he's staring and his markings will flicker red with embarrassment as he looks away. ]

Yes! Hello! [ He gives the other a smile as he waves at him. ]

You're Li Min, right? It's nice to meet you!

[He returns the wave and doesn't sweep into a shallow bow. As they say, when in another's hometown one should follow their traditions.]

It's nice to meet you as well. [He gestured towards the entrance.] Shall we?

[ Shigeru smiles. Whoa he's so polite and very formal?! It's a nice change of pace. He looks so regal in what he's wearing, but then again, Shigeru is wearing a standard long sleeved shirt and dress pants, but also white gloves as well, odd for the time of year but he doesn't seem to be put off by the heat. ]

Yes! Let's head inside! [ There is a moment of trepidation from him as they get right in front of the front doors. Shigeru doesn't stay paused for very long but it's obvious that he's not entirely comfortable walking inside. He hides it well enough even as they wander through the shelves to find seating. ]

It's really nice meeting other people who know sign language. I haven't...met many here but I am teaching a few people how to.

[Though he's never done it on purpose, Chang Geng does carry an air of elegance, looking and acting exactly like a young master.

He notices that hesitation, makes a mental note of it but decides not only to not comment on it but also to not react to it...for the moment anyway.]

It's not widely known where I'm from either.

[But he has a vested interest in learning both because of his friendship with Liao Ran but also because of Gu Yun as well.]

It is good for you to share that knowledge with others.

[He looks for one of the more secluded study areas...because though he's learned to put up with them he didn't like crowds.]

I guess it's often put to the wayside because most people can speak and hear! But sometimes it's nice to really find people learning it because they want to.

[ Most people don't consider things like that, especially in his world where those disabilities are few and far between, mainly due to people like him whose healing powers can fix it in an instant. But there are still some people who deny phrobiest's help and go on living their lives being deaf or mute. ]

I think sharing knowledge with people here is one of the ways we help each other, right? After all we're all technically brought here from our own worlds.

That's understandable. It's not something people would think about normally.

[It certainly had been something he took for granted at one point in his life as well. Eventually he found a table meant for quiet studying, with a barrier around it though the top remained open with space for them to walk into the hexagon shape formed around the table.]

Indeed. All of use bring different knowledge and experiences. It may offer insights into our individual problems.

[And then he pulls out a seat for you. Because that seems to be the polite thing to do.]
