Text (first part private, second public)

Private to Sakuya Izayoi:

[For a city with so much going on, Remilia still manages to find herself bored. It was not a rare situation for her. It was practically her default state at this point. What was not normal was that she was alone. Having finally managed to master the use of modern technology, she was intent on finding out why with the wonderful invention known as a text message. It was a strange sort of sorcery, but it worked.]

You have been out for some time, Sakuya. Have you hit upon misfortune?

[She insisted on typing her words out exactly how she would say them. It was a matter of pride for her.]

Public:

Satisfy my curiosity. Several months ago, I asked about inhuman people who had been brought here. Now, I would like to ask a more specific question. I am certain I am not the only one here upon which mortality has no grasp. If that description does not make it obvious, I speak of what is sometimes called the 'undead'. I find the term distasteful myself, but it is a word that is convenient to describe what I mean. I do not, of course, ask for you to divulge your secrets and weaknesses, it is mere idle curiosity.

Sakuya's phone buzzed. She paused, reaching down into a pocket of space and withdrawing it. Her eyebrows raised slightly in surprise. It was unusual for Remilia to contact her while she was out shopping. Text or otherwise.

I took a detour. I am looking at clothes. I intend to get a new outfit or two for myself.

Her texting was a little less formal than her speech though she still insisted on using proper punctuation.

The comment got a chuckle out of Sakuya. Though a part of her was relieved there was no trouble to speak of.

I have little to wear outside of my uniform. And being in uniform often earns me odd looks. Especially when I am alone. So I am trying to learn what is 'modern.'

It wasn't like she could build up the same kind of reputation in a place so large. Especially with how fantastic the general public seemed to be.

I am not confident I can properly replicate these styles. That is why I am looking about today. I do not intend to purchase anything yet. I will be getting help from an acquaintance in making my selection.

Yet is correct. But modern styles seem to require stitches and fabrics that are difficult for human hands to replicate. Machines produce these clothes. It is easier to buy them.

[ The second question was answered in a separate text. ]

It is the young woman we met at the maid cafe. She sent me a picture of a maid outfit that she claimed to be a kind of costume and asked my thoughts. The conversation turned to clothing.

Well I'm not UNdead but I did die and return, so I'm not entirely sure what that means for me once it actually happens for good.

I'm aware.

[Death has some funny caveates in Tyria, but as far as she knows she and her friends are the only ones who have been capable of properly making a deal with the Judge.]

I wasn't the only one, either. My friends and I were pursuing a fallen God who was wreaking havoc through Elona and when we were finally able to corner him he managed to instead turn and kill all of us that were there at the time.

We woke up in the Domain of the Lost where most souls go to be judged before moving onto the afterlife properly. The domain was overrun by creatures that weren't supposed to be there, ones that were consuming the souls before they could move on, so we were able to strike a deal with the Judge to eradicate them in exchange for our return so we could deal with Balthazar properly.

We didn't get out unscathed, though. We all came back with horrible scars from where he had fatally injured us.

Is there something specific you want to know, or are you merely seeking solidarity?

I only turned about ten years ago. So I actually don't have experienc with unending life just yet, I'm still well within the bounds of a normal human lifespan.

So were you born the way you are, then? ...Or created, I suppose, that's also a possibility.

Were it up to me, I would have chosen something similar. To not be born human, but rather something else. Lack of stimulation aside, it's largely a marked improvement.

Proper undead, as most people understand it. Killed ten years ago and revived by a virus I had deliberately infected myself with. The result is enhanced speed, strength, and physical regeneration, as well as a general lack of inclination to remain dead when people kill me.

There are others who have tried.

[It's fortunate, perhaps, that this is over text, because god knows how fucking smug that would be otherwise. As it stands, it's already pretty smug.]

Bluntly put, yes. It's hardly something to simply be complacent with when there are other options available. The opportunity presented itself, and so I took it. Seeing as I didn't die horribly, I'd say the benefits are deserved.

If a way to seize power is available to me, then I find that the means often don't matter. It's genuinely one of the few things that matter in this world.

they're different on my world

undead is a word for creatures that cannot die

not anything to do with corpses

We should start a club. Or a newsletter. Not sure how many people will sign up, in the end, but solidarity was never a bad thing.
