[Lio had never really used the video feature on his phone before, but he figured this was probably the best way to showcase his, uh, problem.

So he was laying down, with his phone pointed down at his face, and he looked absolutely miserable. His face was bright red, dark circles under his eyes, and his hair was stuck to his forehead with sweat. Anyone could tell just by looking at him that he had a nasty looking fever.]

Hey. [He swallowed, his mouth dry and his voice all nasally.] Something's wrong. I'm somehow burning hot and freezing cold at the same time, and I can't breath through my nose. I thought I was just tired this morning but it's getting worse. I think I might be dying.

[Of course, in actuality, Lio Fotia had gotten sick for the first time since childhood, and he didn't know what was going on. Galo was out at the moment, otherwise he wouldn't have bothered with a network post and would have just grabbed him, but being slightly delirious, this was his next best idea.]

It sounds like you may have a cold, or perhaps even the flu depending on how severe the symptoms are. Have you had any stomach pain, or headaches accompanying what you mentioned before?

I... don't know what the difference is.

[He knew a flu was supposed to be worse than a cold, he knew they were viruses, but beyond that he didn't know how you really got them, or what you were supposed to do about them, or why one was worse than the other.]

I've been nauseous, my head is pounding, and my whole body aches. [Definitely more flu-like.]

Mm, that makes it sound more like the flu. In that case, you'll need to make sure to drink plenty of water and other fluids, or else you'll become more dehydrated than you already are from what the flu is doing with your body.

That said, you should not have to worry about something as extreme as dying from it.

[especially when death isn't even permanent here, so who cares if anyone ever dies here... but danny doesn't say that, because that wouldn't be professional of him as a doctor]

As long as you rest and keep yourself from becoming dehydrated, you should recover within a day or two. If it persists longer than that, however, then it would be best to come to a clinic or the hospital, where you can be prescribed medication that will hopefully make the recovery process go by quickly.

[Perhaps the whole 'you shouldn't have to worry' thing would have calmed him down normally, but being relatively oblivious to what exactly viruses were like, the phrasing honestly made him feel worse.

This wasn't symbiosis, like he was used to with other creatures that had borrowed his body in the past - this was parasitism.

God he felt even more like he was going to vomit.]

Ugh... I don't know what's worse, if this isn't the flu, or if it really is... Isn't the flu contagious?

It can be, yes. It would be best to refrain from sharing any foods or drinks with others, or, ah... engaging in certain acts of intimacy until you are feeling better.

[Which, given where they are... could be difficult, but maybe itll be fine as long as he sticks to just hand holding and hugging for now.]

... I live with my boyfriend. I mean I can avoid kissing or sharing drinks but, we share a bed... How likely is it I'm going to pass it on to him?

It... would be best for him to sleep somewhere else until you are no longer sick, or at least keep some distance between you if your bed has enough room to do so. I'm sorry.

[Lio sighed, rubbing his forehead with a bit of frustration.]

We have a spare bedroom... It was my old bedroom before we started sleeping together. [Figuratively and literally, though Lio really only meant literally, he just was in no shape to watch his language.] I'll probably end up moving there while I'm sick, since he's bigger than me and needs the space... But I get the feeling he's going to be stubborn about it.

There are cold and flu remedies though, that I've had some people recommend that can help make you feel a little less miserable while you're recovering.

[Lio sat up a bit straighter as he heard that, suddenly rapt with attention.]

What kind of remedies? Like, medicine?

I was thinking more along the lines of soups and drinks some people use as tricks to try to alleviate the cold or flu, though there are over the counter medications such as syrups and cough drops and the like that one can turn to as well if you're unable to be prescribed something in particular.

Ah. Some people have suggested soups already, I think I'm about to have more soup than I know what to do with. Not sure about drinks - everyone's just told me to drink a lot of water.

Is there something better than water?

Water is the best solution, but ginger ale is a good go to usually. There's also gargling with salt water to help a sore throat, but don't actually drink it if you do that.

Ginger ale... I've never had it.

[He knew what it was, vaguely, but Lio wasn't much of a soda drinker.]

What's it good for?

It can help ease some amount of nausea or a sore throat when you're feeling sick... though, personally I recommend using ginger in tea if you want it to have a stronger impact. Some people find the taste too bitter or the like, however.

I'd prefer too bitter to too sweet. I drink my coffee black.

[Ginger tea, eh? That sounded kind of good, actually.]

Galo's picking me up some medicine now... if none of it helps, I'll ask about the tea instead. I'm not really in any shape to drag myself to the store for it anyway. Thanks for the advice, though.
