[ When the video comes on, a very cheerful looking literal cat-lady will be on screen, holding up a miniature bamboo tree with colourful papers on the branches! ]
This must be the date! Hoy there, everyone! Name's Megumi, Matriarch of the Utakata Tribe! I'm a healer and huntress from the star of Hydaelyn, and it's time for a story!
[ Isn't this fun? Pay attention! She sits up with her ears wiggling enthusiastically. ]
I've heard it differently back in Yanxia on my world, but it seems like there are some people here who have a more romantic version of it! Eorzean Moonfire's just violent when you think about it but at least we wear cute outfits... Anyroad! This one's about a Star Festival!
[ She perks up. ]
The general story I've heard is that there's a Princess, and a Cowherd! The Princess' job is to weave beautiful fabric for her father, the Sky King, but is sad because she never gets to meet anyone because of her work. Her father arranges for her to meet a handsome Cowherd who lives across the river, and they eventually fall in love and marry! But because they're so distracted, they're not performing any of their regular duties, so the Sky King separates them across a river they can't cross. The lovers are in despair! Finally, the Sky King relents, allowing them to meet on the seventh day of the seventh moon, er... month at the river.
But when they reach the river, there's no bridge to cross! How in the hells did the Sky King get the Cowherd there in the first place?! Suppose the bridge plot's there for drama, but, anyroad!
[ She hates plot holes!! But, she puffs her cheeks and continues- ]
The Princess cries so much, that a flock of birds offer to create a bridge so she can visit her husband. And so it's said that when you see a bridge of stars in the heavens on a clear night, on the seventh day of the seventh month, that's the Princess and Cowherd meeting across the star bridge! I don't know how the birds made a star bridge, but they must be bloody amazing birds- But if it rains, they have to wait a year to meet again! That's so depressing!
[ Then, she claps her hands. ]
Anyroad, back home, to commemorate the day, we'd write wishes on these colourful paper strips which you should absolutely make, too! They'd be shaped in different little shapes too, and hung on bamboo branches. So, you should all make a wish too! I think you can go "anonymous" on here, so how about using this little post to make wishes?! Consider it your personal bamboo tree! Here's a little guide, but really, you can wish for anything however you want.
【 tanabata attachment 】
And if you want to make any wishes in person, I've got bamboo trees outside my clinic [ location provided ] and lots of tanzaku! Come by and make a wish!
What sorts of traditions do you have in summer? Tell me about them too! [ She sighs deeply- ] I need something new to write about, so inspire me! Oh, and if you get sick or feel sad, come to my clinic! We'll help!
✨ Matriarch, out!
[ ooc; feel free to threadjack with permission and make anon wishes or just chat! Or un-anon. Have fun! ]

[ She laughs again, though it ends in a sigh. ]
...hmm? With... friends?
[ Is she implying something? ]
I've quite a few adventuring friends! They can be a bit of a silly bunch, but those are the sorts that you'd want to have about for such a thing!

[ You know, with her being hyur and all. Chou has no excuse, she's a dancer! But she keeps a mostly straight face about that mention. ]
Can't say I've heard much about your friends. Always did hear the Warrior of Light traveled in a party with others, but I only heard about Kaelas and Vheras' in detail. Apparently they'd someone just like me in their memories! I could be twins with someone on their star! Though there are a few faces here I've seen back in mine own, too...
[ Yeah this is how she's going to approach it. ]
no subject
[ Had she heard those names from Megumi before? She couldn't recall. Hm. ]
I've not always traveled with the same party, precisely... but there were others that worked with the Scions? Or who happened to be about when I needed a hand? You couldn't catch Mohi'to on his linkpearl for love nor money, but if he was right there he'd roll up his sleeves and wade into the thick of it with you... and Chezni, you could barely make leave once she'd begun to have fun with it...
[ She trails off in a laugh, smiling in fond remembrance. But Megumi's words aren't forgotten. ]
None of them are people that I've seen here, not even other versions, though... mmm, there were some familiar faces when... dealing with Hades...
[ Which is something she'd never found a good way to bring up. ]

[ She falls silent, listening attentively to Dakki and the names, up until she reaches the end-
Her ears flick, gaze soft. ]
"Champions from beyond the rift", wasn't it? Who were the faces you saw?
[ It's like she knows something, but she does reach out to touch her device, wishing Dakki was in front of her right now. If only because it would be as though-
No. No, no... Dakki is Dakki. Alys is... ]
I saw the Exarch's summon. Through Kaelas' eyes... and I recall your story. So I know... a bit.

[ She nods in confirmation, and it seems a little easier to explain, knowing that Megumi knows. Ah, it's good to have a friend with the Echo. It's good to have that kind of foundation for understanding. ]
Well... Kaelas, for one. Not that I'd any way to recognize him at the time! But... that was him, up front with a sword and a shield, taking the worst of it.
[ She hesitates for a moment, gaze drifting absently to the side. The next words feel hard to say, for how long she'd kept herself from saying them to anyone. ]
...I could swear that Cehd'ra was there, too.
no subject
[ That's said with a little chuckle, but then she tilts her head. ]
... just like you, or someone who looks exactly like you, has been with me for a very long time.
[ Let's get that catte out of the bag too. ]
no subject
[ And it's not like she'd have known the right questions to ask, besides. She shakes her head, and begins to laugh, but then Megumi comes out with her own sat-on-too-long secret, and she's boggling. ]
You... someone that... what?
[ Now that she is finally on the other side of the "I know you but you don't know me" interaction, she's completely at a loss. ]
no subject
Alys Ballard. A healer, and... a tribesmaiden. And one of my best friends.
[ She kept quiet about it because there never seemed a need to bring it up, but now's a good time as any. ]
She's someone who saved me from a lot of pain.
[ She trails off, but her gaze seems to be distant, as though seeing someone else for a moment. ]
And she's... you. I never was sure how to tell you.
Private
[ She is still visibly stunned, but there's something in her tone that seems to show that the name means something to her. But as much as she wants to dwell on that, it is much more important to be concerned about Megumi herself. And her distant gaze, and the soft way she trails off. ]
Megumi...
[ She sends a request for a private call, and once that's picked up, she continues. ]
You can tell me now. Could you tell me about her? Aah, I'm... I'm sorry that I'm not her. So sorry.
[ Honestly and truly. It does not feel good to be on the other side of this... sort of thing. ]
« private »
[ She sounds alright, actually. More than that, she doesn't know if it's easier talking about this without seeing Dakki's face but— she'll try. ]
Ballard was a medic stationed at a castrum— for a while, that was the only name I knew her by. She was my only friend around then, and looked to my hurts.
[ Why did she know her at a castrum? She doesn't elaborate for now, especially when it should be obvious with what she just said about her being a medic. ]
She and I lost contact for a while, until we reunited later around the Ruby Sea. Lass had a knack for surviving though. Everything about her was delightful, though. A beauty even if she couldn't see it sometimes, a hilarious drunk whenever she did partake and skilled. Is she ever skilled...
[ There's fondness in her voice ]
She's godmother to my kits, too. But I'm guessing what you want to hear isn't all this happy talk.
[ She just wants Dakki to ask in particular for where she wants to know more of. She hasn't spoken of this for a reason to anyone here. ]
« private »
[ Still, she knows what it's like, to know someone's face and someone's deeds, and not have that expectation met. What strange, strange experiences they've both come to have in this place...
There's no further protest, though. She listens quietly, though she gives a bit of a laugh to hear the fondness in Megumi's tone. They were not just friends but good friends, close friends... and she knows how precious a good friend can be. ]
...mmm? No, no, the happy talk is... it's happy? It's good, it's good. It's... good to know!
[ But still... ]
How had she found herself at a castrum? Was she a conscript?
[ And, in perhaps offering something in return that could clarify matters more for Megumi... ]
My... my mother's maiden name was Ballard.

[ She sighs, her ears drooping- ]
Figured as much- about her name, too. Didn't want to assume too much on your own. Wasn't going to push my memories onto you- she definitely isn't a Warrior of Light, but... neither was the Vheras I remembered. But the one that was here... she was. And she still knew me. Not the me I am now, but... one of her own.
Sorry for not telling you sooner. Didn't want you to feel like I was projecting on you or somesuch, aye?
no subject
[ Given the meeting up around about the Ruby Sea, she can hazard a guess... but she'd like to know for certain. ]
One doesn't need to be a Warrior of Light to... to matter. I'm... that is, I'm... I'm glad that she has a good friend like you. That she's landed somewhere safe, it sounds like.
[ Glad to know that her life would have some sort of direction, some sort of meaning, if she were somehow not the exact person that she was. She lets out a long sigh that's half pleased and half aching. ]
Thank you for telling me now.
