Well, it's kind of a long story, but apparently when we, the people who get thawed from those crystals, touch each other willingly, we're doing something called 'moonlacing'. Just holding hands or a good hug will do!

Apparently, this 'moonlacing' restores energy to the planet, in a way that the natives cannot do. It's enabled them to bring life back to this planet, thanks to a Calamity that slammed down on it several hundreds of years ago.
