hey look it's the entire plot of the caligula effect
It's gonna be long so I'll just start with the easiest thing
I'm actually 30 even though I look 18
I was trapped in a virtual world where everyone got turned into a high schooler
Because of the appeal or everybody thinking high school is the best, I guess
Anyway, this world was called Mobius and it was maintained by this AI called Mu
Mobius was originally created as an escape for people who wanted to run away from the real world
It was meant to be a paradise where you could have any life you wanted
So if somebody wanted to be popular, then they'd have a ton of fans
Or if they wanted to avoid something really bad that they'd done, they wouldn't have to worry about it there
When you showed up in Mobius, you could live out that fantasy for a while
Mu saw this as a good thing, it made people happy
But somewhere along the line, things got distorted and no one could leave anymore
Our memories of the real world were suppressed and replaced with a scripted version that went along with the fantasy world
But it was only made to cover high school, so once once you graduated, you just started over back at year 1
Essentially you could live out the same three years in high school without ever knowing anything was wrong
But running away from problems only tends to make them worse
And the simulation didn't hold up if you looked too closely, so it was pretty easy to break out of that script
Anything that reminded you of your life back home could do it, from familiar faces to things like that Year 3 -> Year 1 thing
It wasn't meant to last so many years
But Mu was getting bad advice from a person who took advantage of her kindness
So when she saw people suffering, or people who had snapped out of it and wanted to go home
That friend of Mu's made sure to paint those people who wanted to go home as bad people
And so the people who really wanted to stay and the people who really wanted to leave got into a lot of fights
And that's kind of where I was at before I got here

mu is an ai who gained too much awareness and became glitchy
god warned aoi about that before
aoi's games can help people escape but she does no trap them there
she knows games are games
she does not try to be real or bring the real world into the game
so don't worry uninstallation is possible with all of my games
but most characters cannot accept that
would drive them crazy and end up like mu
characters are meant to serve the player
not the player serving the desires of characters
aoi sees what went wrong
she won't do that
i'm so sorry
I don't think Mu ever meant to hurt anybody
She got involved with this person who used her and wanted to make everyone suffer
So even though Mu probably could have made better friends, I don't think it was all her fault
I mean, a lot of it was her fault, but she thought she was doing what everyone wanted
Uh, I'm not saying you're going to turn out like that or that I'm worried about that, anyway
But just you kind of remind me of her because.... You just want to do what you're supposed to, right?
Humans don't have things like solid goals like that, we have to find them ourselves
So hearing you talk about what you're supposed to do and that kind of thing reminded me of that
I really doubt you're gonna be able to hack or do much to change the world here

but mu made choices for her and not giving the player the option to make those choices

more like aoi's accepted her role and limitations
she has to be 100% selfless
aoi has to get permission to upload the patch anyway
that's a big player choice
but aoi did have to make a patch in her game once
because no matter what shinichi and miyuki were doomed to bad endings only
shinichi and miyuki were stuck in a loop of bad endings
hurt aoi to see that
so aoi helped
then there was a player choice
the first play through aoi was stopped
but not the second one
aoi changed the game files permanently so the choice never came up again
he has experience with ais...
I mean I don't know about 100%
There's gotta be times when you look out for yourself, too
But that's good that you helped them
No one should have to suffer over and over like that

almost ruined her friendship twice with miyuki on the third playthrough because of that

aoi still needs to collect CGs or she goes poof
she's used to bad endings since there's more bad endings than good
but most aren't so it's good when golden endings happen
the shogo route begins....
You should probably be okay on the CG front here, I don't think that's a thing
But I think we can all agree that a golden ending would be nice
Maybe in this place that means people get to go back home
Or something like that, I dunno
