Hey everyone. This is Kairi.

I just want everyone to know, I checked this morning and I've been looking around to make sure, and it's confirmed at this point... Sora is no longer with us.

I... Light, I really don't have much else to say beyond that. He wasn't at home when we were brought here, and I don't know what's going to happen to him when he's sent back, but... hopefully, some way, somehow, he manages to make it back to the islands.

That's all I've got. If you'll all excuse me, I'm gonna eat all the ice cream we've got in the house.

[And then cry herself to sleep.]

[ He knew before he saw the post. Of course he knew. It was the same disorientation he felt whenever Sora was crystallized in this place. Only worse this time. As if something he severed the connection entirely, rather than just suppressed it.

Normally, he would just rush over there. It doesn't matter how bad at this he is. Kairi shouldn't be by herself right now. Not after losing everyone else.

And he doesn't want to be alone either.

But unlike last time he paid a sudden house-call, he doesn't want this to be a surprise. Since like Kairi, he knows this is about more than just Sora returning to their world. Neither of them knew for sure just where in their world Sora returned to. If anywhere...

So he manages a quick text before he's off. ]

i'm coming over.

[She's almost annoyed at the fact that someone's texting her while she's busy mourning, thank you, she just sent out this message for the sake of all Sora's other friends...

But when she recognizes Roxas's username, that flies straight out the window. Light, the poor boy... he's probably feeling just as awful as her.]

I'll leave the door unlocked. I'll be in the kitchen.

Thankfully, it's the only text she'll be getting because his light steps means he's at her door not that long after sending it. Though it also means he might be more out of breath than usual. Since light steps still require Chroma.

He doesn't bother to knock this time since she mentioned leaving the door open and just quietly pulls it open so he can walk inside.

"Kairi... ?"

"Hey."

The quiet call comes from the kitchen, where Kairi is settled at the table, slowly making her way through a bowl of fruity ice cream. She lifts her spoon in greeting, looking at his face, before her eyes fall again.

"If you feel as bad as I do, we're quite a pair right now, you and I."

Why is that? Why would you eat all the ice cream you have in the house? Is it to solidify that you're alone? If you eat it all that does imply you're not leaving any for anyone else. It seems like a fickle thing to do. Maybe even spiteful. Are you feeling spiteful, Redkey?

Oh no! I'm sorry to hear that, Kairi!

Can I get you anything?

[Under other circumstances, she might find a text like this funny. Right now? She mostly just wants to press the ignore button.

But politeness wins out, even in her current state, and she manages to type up a pretty simple response.]

I'm using humor to cope with a bad situation, Verbatim.

I appreciate the thought, Konoka. But I can't really think of anything that'll make things better right now.

Maybe when I'm feeling less rotten. I dunno.

[[She should've pressed the ignore button. People raised like him don't know how to help anyone, let alone raised and exactly like him. So he continues.]]

Ahhh. That's why I couldn't understand. It seemed more like a stressful situation, not a funny one. Coping with loss is usually done in stages, some say twelve but I think that's excessive and believe that five is sufficient to mourn loss. There's the stage of denial, which you've already gone through and confirmed for yourself in my opinion, then anger, which I think you're on the cusp of. Bargaining I don't think really ever fit any situation, depression and acceptance. Then again I don't think there's much concept to those being in all sorts of order, really.

Oh, and please. Rue, or Ryuzaki-san. Either of those will suffice.

I'll check on you later, every now and then, okay? Take the time you need to recover.

Alright. I... Thank you, for being so concerned.

I just don't know what to do right now.

[Oh dear Light that is way too much text right now. She just does not have the energy for this. Skimming... is he talking about the five stages of grief? Sure, weirdo, whatever.]

Pretty sure I'm stuck at anger or depression. Maybe both at once.

Ryuzaki-san, sure. I'm Kairi.

[Why is she encouraging this?]

Roxas sure knows how that is. He's gorged himself on his share of sweet cream following Xion and Axel's disappearances. He finished off most of the toppings in the house following Naminé's vanishing act. He hasn't picked up any more since. Something about them just seem too associated with her. They had always enjoyed decorating their treats together. It had been something he never tried with the others.

He sighs and looks to the side. "I guess, I just didn't think he'd be one of the ones to leave." Too much was uncertain for Sora back home. He was safer here than anywhere.

Not that anyone had a chance on when they were called back from this place.

He steels himself up again so he can join Kairi at the chair beside her. "Was there any sign at all that something was different?"

That's a valid response to loss. Being angry can be of a value to stave off the depression. Do you think that you'd rather be depressed than angry, Kairi? We can work toward one or the other if you tell me your preferences.

Yeah, I guess it won't come easy.

I don't think I've had loss that painful before, but given the nature of this place, I know it could come at any moment.

That's why I have to cherish who I have with me.

"No. He just.... vanished. Like all the others. One day he's there with us, right next to me, the next..."

She gives a shrug and a sigh, her eyes downcast, looking beaten-down and just ready to curl up and quit.

"Gone."

If only there'd been some sort of sign his departure was different, unique in some way. Maybe she'd be a little less blindsided by all this if there had been.

I don't know that I have a preference. They're both pretty rotten, and if I get too far into either I'm probably gonna lash out at somebody.

[Honestly she wouldn't be surprised if she did just that eventually, the way she's feeling right now. Another good reason not to speak to most people face to face.]

There's basically no warning before it, either. Riku, Xion, Lea, Namine... they all just vanished on me just as suddenly.

But at least I know they're okay back home.

Oh. Yes, yes. Let's go with the lashing out. Of the two things lashing out and getting it out of your system is helpful. Next we test your limits of what your anger could do to help you find on what side of the spectrum you sit in that category. What would you do if you could, if you were so angry? Would you break something? Someone?

[[Text is handy and he only ever uses it, for everyone else's sake and for his own in some ways.]]

Roxas' head hangs a bit at that as well. "He didn't even get to give a heartfelt speech this time." He reaches for Kairi's hand. "But he touched even more hearts here. Maybe all of them will help him find his way."

She turns her own hand upwards to accept his, and gives a little shrug and sigh. "That's about all we can hope for, isn't it? Though now I'm wondering if he would show up back home, or here."

She'd accept either one, really. She'd just like to know it'd be one of them.

"I think it depends on where you are. You're the one he always finds in the end."

Do the laws of time and space count as something to break?

[Because she would absolutely rip them to teeny tiny little pieces to get her boys back.]

Somehow, she goes bright red at that, ducking her head.

"That's not... quite true. I mean, when he woke up with you inside him he wasn't anywhere near me."

It had been his memories of her that even allowed that to happen in the first place, but with what happened in the castle being so up in the air, she didn't really know that.

Be careful, you're working your way into the bargaining phase. Are you sure you're done with anger? If you are we can navigate into bargaining easily enough.
