Actually, what's the etiquette around this? Are you supposed to thank people or do you just look at people liking your pictures and feel gratified about it?

I think you’re supposed to do the latter. I mean, I have seen a lot of people here responding to their likes but back where I’m from, no one does.

I do think people can sometimes get hung up on small things like that, but it takes barely any time to clear it up, especially if it's a cultural miscommunication.
