There are certainly other wandering cultivators in the world. Most belong to schools, though, or they're part of a family of some kind. I can't say it's entirely common to be alone...

There are schools and families that teach Nen, too. However, for those who learn Nen, most have to learn from a teacher. It's something of an ancient art... and there is a lot to know. You're constantly growing off the basics and enhancing your own abilities in doing so. Of course, there are those that cease paying attention to those basics, of course, and focus only on gaining more power... which ends up ruining them eventually.
[ To forget all that Nen can do in order to focus on their unique ability, it is like deleting valuable information. ]
