[The video feed in this post is very focused, looking up at the upper part of a moon-shaped chair like it's sitting on the cushions. Taking up most of that space is Ren (and the hair that he's made a token effort to try and contain in probably the fattest plait known to humankind) in all his Cordis-touched glory, fluffy fox tail wrapped around him and ears twitching a bit as he files his long claws. As he speaks, sharp canines are visible poking out from just under his lip.

Also, the attentive might notice he's not filing his claws down. He's filing them up to worryingly sharp points, a sharp contrast to the cutesy, airheaded manner he starts speaking in as he tweaks at the top of his oversized sweater to stop it slipping off his shoulders.]

So I guess that moon stuff is happening to everyone, right...? But I don't think everyone knows how to properly look after fur and feathers and things...oh, and scales, I think I saw some fish people around during the last moon. So I was wondering if anyone had any advice about that sort of thing? I'm sure nobody wants gross stuff in their new animal bits while this is all going on because they don't know how to clean them properly, and there must be people who are more used to dealing with that stuff. Even if I don't have feathers or scales, I'm sure there's other people who it could be useful for. Nobody wants scale rot or weird moulting problems, right~?

[A cutesy sort of smile comes at that. Honestly, he's mostly asking because he wants to see what people have turned into, but hey, making a resource might put him on good terms with some people.]

Oh, and has anyone looked for grooming stuff at the shops...? I guess there has to be that sort of thing here since I've seen lots of furry people since I arrived, but it's pretty boring to go look through a big shopping center alone...if anyone wants to come with me, maybe I could treat you to something in return.

[He says that so innocently that it's probably safe to assume he doesn't mean anything weird...even if he's passed by the shops well enough to know there's some questionable stuff there he could definitely tease the heck out of someone with. But he's definitely not planning to do that. Look at this eminently trustworthy and adorable face with no ill intentions whatsoever.

And those claws that he's still cheerfully filing to dagger points with the air of someone who has no idea how that could possibly be an odd thing to be doing.]

[The responding video is unsteady; the camera quakes a little, shakes up and down, moves side to side. Not enough to create a sense of motion sickness for most viewers, but enough to betray the fact that the person behind the camera has little to zero idea how to use this technology effectively. After a few blurry seconds, Keaton comes into view. The Sanguis moon has retreated, but he still sports full wolf ears and an impressive tail.]

Why should newbies need to practice grooming their animal bits? It's not like they'll have to look at them for much longer anyway. Besides, don't you think it looks more rugged when it's all messed up like this?

[He brings his own tail into clearer view of the camera. A piece of lint is stuck to it.]

the trick with feathers is to not get them totally soaked, and to pick out the loose ones. otherwise they pretty much take care of themselves

[That sure is specific knowledge, which means Ren is curious already.]

can you feel it when they start to come loose normally or do you just have to check?

[Keaton's going to have to wait a moment for an actual answer to that, because as soon as the camera focuses, Ren pauses in his claw filing to instead clasp his hands together delightedly.]

Oh, you're really cute... [But right, words were said. He should probably pay attention to those.] The rugged look is fine for some people, but not everyone can pull it off, you know? They might want it to look neat or pretty instead...and if something like the vine thing happens again while this is going on, it might be nice to know how to groom just to get things like that poison out, you wouldn't want to walk around with that stuck in your tail even for a few days...

[Ren rubs the back of his hair with one hand, but his eyes have been slowly tracking to that piece of lint as he's been talking, and eventually, he points towards it (from his point of view, at least).] Is the lint part of the rugged look...?

[He already asked about washing it in general, but the detail of how to avoid getting it wet when he's washing the rest of him hadn't quite come up.]

[At the mention of the prized piece of lint, Keaton puffs out his chest in pride. It's an awfully nice chest, at least.]

'Course that's part of the look. And besides, my pockets were getting full, so I had to figure out a way to carry around this prime specimen. Look how many different kinds of fibers are trapped inside of it! A quality piece of lint, absolutely.

[He plucks at said prime specimen for a moment, tilting his head in thought.]

But I guess you have a point about the poison... wolfskin have a built-up tolerance to these kinds of things, but I can see how a person not really used to a rough-and-tumble kind of lifestyle might need some help learning to pick things out from between feathers and scales. I've got a friend with kitsune attributes, so maybe I might have some advice that could help you out.

[It is a pretty nice chest, though considering Ren has seen far less fluffy tails and ears in his time than chests, he's still focusing more on those attributes. Also the fact that Keaton's outfit is a lot neater than he'd expect from someone whose tail is so...rugged.

At the very least, he doesn't question the lint further, merely tilting his head slightly with a smile.] Oh, I didn't realise you were a lint collector.

[It's kind of cute, honestly, and thus there's no teasing behind the words. He'd be a pretty huge hypocrite if he teased someone for being a little offbeat, after all, especially when this place provides no shortage of other things to tease about.

In any case, the offer of advice (however vague) gets his attention...or maybe it's the further information about what Keaton is and the kinds of people he knows.] Is a wolfskin what you are? We have kitsune in stories in my world, but I don't know anything about wolfskin...that's what I was thinking too, though, that it's the people who aren't really used to roughing it that would need the help.

I was just beginning to think that perhaps I wouldn't be affected by the magic that causes this, too. I seem to have grown feathers and fur. I haven't the slightest idea what creature I'm meant to be.

[At the angle the camera is at, Ren can only really see the fox ears, but he looks pretty interested to hear that she has more than one feature.]

I haven't heard of anything like a winged fox in my world's stories...maybe you're just two different things? Which is pretty cool... [Well, relatively speaking, since it might also be very difficult to take care of all those new bits. He tilts his head a bit, like he's trying to catch a different angle even if that doesn't actually work when you're video calling someone.] Did you grow wings or just feathers somewhere else?

[The view shakes as she moves the camera around to display one arm, covered in brown feathers all the way down to the wrist. Some are soft and downy, while others are long, wing feathers.]

You see? It's not all over, but it's not something I've dealt with before.

[Ren leans in a bit closer to his screen so he can see it properly.] Oh, that looks pretty nice...I can see why it would be hard to take care of, though. Someone else was talking about making sure you don't get them wet and pick out loose ones, so I guess the biggest worry is if you can feel any of them loose...? Or if it rains, but I don't think it has yet.

[Can it even rain here? There's some kind of protection over the city, and they are on a moon (surrounded by more moons, but still).]

[At the mention of just the kitsune, the tips of Keaton's ears sag. Any inflation his ego received from showing off a part of his treasured collection has been savagely undone by innocuous words.]

So you know about kitsune, huh? But nothing about wolfskin. Honestly, has every person on this planet been living in isolation from the real world? Well, if you know anything about kitsune, you know about their ability to shift their shape. Wolfskin are the same thing -- but better, obviously, because we don't put as much stock into primping. Still -- the kitsune I know is a decent guy, and I've known him long enough to have picked up some pointers about the care and keeping of fox fur.

[He leans forward, propping up his chin with one gloved hand.]

What d'you wanna know?

[Which just makes him sound like supermarket chicken, but hey, clearly that's. appealing.]

i mean lots of people are turning into lots of stuff this week
so i guess birds aren't really that out there when you think about it ╮(＾▽＾)╭

[Ren waves a hand, as if to say he didn't mean to offend, because that droop in his ears was pretty obvious.] I don't think either of them actually exist in my world, so that's why I might sound ignorant...we kind of have the idea of wolf people, we just call them something different. But that doesn't mean I don't want to learn more about you.

[Because hey, Ren can appreciate all kinds of animal people. Even if the main wolf person he can think of that he's ever dealt with even by proxy was...not a great dude, because apparently even interplanetary entities named Fenrir can't escape the connotations of the name.

Ren curls a hand under his chin thoughtfully.] I guess the main thing is how you'd usually go about washing a tail and ears like this, since someone told me not to get my tail too wet...and how to brush fur without it hurting. I don't know that brushes designed for human hair would work very well for that. But if you can think of anything else he's said about keeping it looking nice, then I wouldn't mind knowing that too.

Well, if it's really gnarly, I just run my bare hands through it and work out the kinks with my fingers. Mostly it's about removing loose hair that gets trapped in the undercoat -- that's where the worst of the grime is going to get stuck.

[Rather kindly, he thinks, Keaton performs a demonstration. Biting the fingertip of a glove between sharp teeth, he pulls with a sharp jerk of his head to reveal a pale hand with pointed, claw-like nails. He runs his fingers through the thickest of his fur at the base of his tail, and just like he said, loose fur rises up in a cloud around his hand.]

See? Maybe a little pointless, but pretty easy. Bathing with fur isn't the worst, but it's still awful to do it. Just muscle through it, okay? A little wet fur never killed anyone. Oh! And my friend spends his gold on powdered soaps that can rubbed into the fur to remove excess oils, but then he goes and brushes it to a "glossy shine," whatever that's about.

[Ren watches Keaton's method with his fingers - having claws himself right now should definitely make that easier, and he sets his nail file aside for the moment to flick his own tail in front of him and start raking his claws through it. It's careful at first, but when he gets a bit of loose fur coming out the way it did with Keaton's, his motions become more confident.]

So it's like this, right? [That's straightforward enough, he thinks. He continues doing it for a few moments as he listens to the further advice, nodding along with it a little. He doesn't get a lot of fur out, but then, he only just got the tail.] I think I might see if they have anything like that at the shops...I've seen other people with a ton of fur here, so there has to be a market for soaps like that, don't you think? I can do brushing stuff to a glossy shine, though, that mostly just takes a lot of patience...

[By way of explanation, he flicks at his thick plait with one hand. Even with the hair bound up like that, it's very obvious that Ren's hair, despite its length and volume, is meticulously cared for.]

I never thought I would be picking feathers off of my arms. This is quite the experience. Has anyone shared any tips on how to take care of fur?

Oh come ONNNNN! Did ANYONE get hit as hard by the moon as I did?!

this is so unfair.

I talked to someone I know about it last night, and he mostly said not to get it wet? [Ren shrugs a little, like he's still figuring it out himself.] Also someone else said to get rid of like...loose fur on the lower layers. It'll be easier if you have claws.
