[video] // [forward date to the 7th once cordis moon is happening]
[The video feed in this post is very focused, looking up at the upper part of a moon-shaped chair like it's sitting on the cushions. Taking up most of that space is Ren (and the hair that he's made a token effort to try and contain in probably the fattest plait known to humankind) in all his Cordis-touched glory, fluffy fox tail wrapped around him and ears twitching a bit as he files his long claws. As he speaks, sharp canines are visible poking out from just under his lip.
Also, the attentive might notice he's not filing his claws down. He's filing them up to worryingly sharp points, a sharp contrast to the cutesy, airheaded manner he starts speaking in as he tweaks at the top of his oversized sweater to stop it slipping off his shoulders.]
So I guess that moon stuff is happening to everyone, right...? But I don't think everyone knows how to properly look after fur and feathers and things...oh, and scales, I think I saw some fish people around during the last moon. So I was wondering if anyone had any advice about that sort of thing? I'm sure nobody wants gross stuff in their new animal bits while this is all going on because they don't know how to clean them properly, and there must be people who are more used to dealing with that stuff. Even if I don't have feathers or scales, I'm sure there's other people who it could be useful for. Nobody wants scale rot or weird moulting problems, right~?
[A cutesy sort of smile comes at that. Honestly, he's mostly asking because he wants to see what people have turned into, but hey, making a resource might put him on good terms with some people.]
Oh, and has anyone looked for grooming stuff at the shops...? I guess there has to be that sort of thing here since I've seen lots of furry people since I arrived, but it's pretty boring to go look through a big shopping center alone...if anyone wants to come with me, maybe I could treat you to something in return.
[He says that so innocently that it's probably safe to assume he doesn't mean anything weird...even if he's passed by the shops well enough to know there's some questionable stuff there he could definitely tease the heck out of someone with. But he's definitely not planning to do that. Look at this eminently trustworthy and adorable face with no ill intentions whatsoever.
And those claws that he's still cheerfully filing to dagger points with the air of someone who has no idea how that could possibly be an odd thing to be doing.]
[[There's also an open log here which includes a prompt for if anyone does want toget teased by go looking for grooming supplies with Ren, plus some other moon cycle shenanigans!]]

'Course that's part of the look. And besides, my pockets were getting full, so I had to figure out a way to carry around this prime specimen. Look how many different kinds of fibers are trapped inside of it! A quality piece of lint, absolutely.
[He plucks at said prime specimen for a moment, tilting his head in thought.]
But I guess you have a point about the poison... wolfskin have a built-up tolerance to these kinds of things, but I can see how a person not really used to a rough-and-tumble kind of lifestyle might need some help learning to pick things out from between feathers and scales. I've got a friend with kitsune attributes, so maybe I might have some advice that could help you out.
no subject
At the very least, he doesn't question the lint further, merely tilting his head slightly with a smile.] Oh, I didn't realise you were a lint collector.
[It's kind of cute, honestly, and thus there's no teasing behind the words. He'd be a pretty huge hypocrite if he teased someone for being a little offbeat, after all, especially when this place provides no shortage of other things to tease about.
In any case, the offer of advice (however vague) gets his attention...or maybe it's the further information about what Keaton is and the kinds of people he knows.] Is a wolfskin what you are? We have kitsune in stories in my world, but I don't know anything about wolfskin...that's what I was thinking too, though, that it's the people who aren't really used to roughing it that would need the help.
no subject
So you know about kitsune, huh? But nothing about wolfskin. Honestly, has every person on this planet been living in isolation from the real world? Well, if you know anything about kitsune, you know about their ability to shift their shape. Wolfskin are the same thing -- but better, obviously, because we don't put as much stock into primping. Still -- the kitsune I know is a decent guy, and I've known him long enough to have picked up some pointers about the care and keeping of fox fur.
[He leans forward, propping up his chin with one gloved hand.]
What d'you wanna know?
no subject
[Because hey, Ren can appreciate all kinds of animal people. Even if the main wolf person he can think of that he's ever dealt with even by proxy was...not a great dude, because apparently even interplanetary entities named Fenrir can't escape the connotations of the name.
Ren curls a hand under his chin thoughtfully.] I guess the main thing is how you'd usually go about washing a tail and ears like this, since someone told me not to get my tail too wet...and how to brush fur without it hurting. I don't know that brushes designed for human hair would work very well for that. But if you can think of anything else he's said about keeping it looking nice, then I wouldn't mind knowing that too.
no subject
[Rather kindly, he thinks, Keaton performs a demonstration. Biting the fingertip of a glove between sharp teeth, he pulls with a sharp jerk of his head to reveal a pale hand with pointed, claw-like nails. He runs his fingers through the thickest of his fur at the base of his tail, and just like he said, loose fur rises up in a cloud around his hand.]
See? Maybe a little pointless, but pretty easy. Bathing with fur isn't the worst, but it's still awful to do it. Just muscle through it, okay? A little wet fur never killed anyone. Oh! And my friend spends his gold on powdered soaps that can rubbed into the fur to remove excess oils, but then he goes and brushes it to a "glossy shine," whatever that's about.
no subject
So it's like this, right? [That's straightforward enough, he thinks. He continues doing it for a few moments as he listens to the further advice, nodding along with it a little. He doesn't get a lot of fur out, but then, he only just got the tail.] I think I might see if they have anything like that at the shops...I've seen other people with a ton of fur here, so there has to be a market for soaps like that, don't you think? I can do brushing stuff to a glossy shine, though, that mostly just takes a lot of patience...
[By way of explanation, he flicks at his thick plait with one hand. Even with the hair bound up like that, it's very obvious that Ren's hair, despite its length and volume, is meticulously cared for.]
no subject
[It's said without much judgement. That's fine, really. Someone who splits hairs about -- well, hair isn't the worst sort of person to meet. His chin settling back into his cupped palm, Keaton watches for a moment as the stranger threads fingers through his new fox fur.]
Making money seems complicated. You're sure you'll have enough to take care of it?
no subject
Mmm, I am a bit...I was always like that, but then I ended up in a position where I got lots of people looking at me all the time anyway, so that just made me more likely to keep it up. [He shrugs, like that's just how it goes.
He picks up his nail file again, though pauses at Keaton's remark on money.] Someone was guessing it was to do with physical contact the other day, right...? I did a bit of that during the festival stuff, but if you're concerned you can always come to the shops with me and we can hug or something. Maybe we'd both get enough chroma to buy something interesting~
[Ren has an approximate shame level of zero at the best of times, and the Cordis moon is definitely not helping with that.]
no subject
Yeah, yeah. I'd heard about that. I just meant -- you know, if you ever need some chrom-whatever without any strings attached to it, physical or otherwise -- I'm not exactly living above my usual standard here, okay? I've probably got some to spare.
no subject
That's sweet of you. And I don't even know your name yet... [He definitely seems like the kind of person Ren would like to get to know better, though, so he hums a little thoughtfully.] I think we'd have to meet in person either way, so if you don't mind coming to the shops with me, I'm happy to just see what we get out of trying a hug or something...I think chroma is supposed to be worth more right now, too...?
[Ren pauses in his filing again and reaches forward to poke at his device a few times so he can check his Chroma Meter, which in the camera means his claws are taking up a weirdly large amount of space for a moment or two.] Worth four demichroma instead of two...so it's probably a better time to do it now. I'm getting pretty hungry as well, maybe it'll be easier to buy food while it's like that...do you like the kinds of food they have here?
[There's a "take me out to lunch first" joke in here somewhere, except basically the opposite of who's suggesting it to who.]
no subject
Right now? This minute? N-not that I'm really that hungry, but my schedule is pretty clear, so. Sure. Since I've got nothing better to do right now, I wouldn't mind meeting you some place with meat on the menu. Just because I have some free time, that's all.
[Behind Keaton, there's a suspicious amount of tail-wagging as he straightens his glove.]
no subject
His gaze definitely shifts to Keaton's merrily wagging tail as he responds, for a few moments before he checks his claws.] It shouldn't take me too long to get up there, so now is fine...I'm almost done with my claws, anyway. I think I saw one of those table grill sort of places on the big street where all the shops are, so they'd have plenty of meat for you even if you're not that hungry~
[That is perhaps a tad too cheerful to not be teasing him a bit, but it's probably fine.]
no subject
Yeah, I know the spot. I've walked past the place a few times already this week. Smelled pretty decent. Should I just... leave right now? And meet you there?
no subject
[Since those places usually just have you order meat in cuts, he might as well make the most of it if he's already feeling his stomach gnawing at him.]
Besides, I think we're not that hard to spot if someone ends up arriving earlier than the other...
no subject
Got it! If I think you might be running late, I'll give you a call through this -- you know. The thing. Not saying you will definitely get lost or turned around or something, but just in case. Could happen to either of us, you never know, so maybe we'll just need to keep me -- keep both of us on track through video chat.
[A beat. He's had a thought.]
Oh. I'm Keaton.
no subject
[He gives a slight shrug at that as he starts finishing up with his last claw. And he was definitely trying to get a name earlier, so getting it now helps a lot.]
I'm Suzugamori Ren, but just call me Ren. It's nice to meet you~
no subject
[His ears angle themselves forward as he concentrates on memorizing the name. Besides being bothered by a few other moon-blessed during the cannibalistic octopus festival -- which was a weird event, even to him -- it's Keaton's first time doing a meet-and-greet since his arrival. It's not like he's nervous or anything. Just... anticipatory. That's all.]
Right. See you there, Ren.
no subject
It's pretty clear that Ren seems quite at ease with the impending meeting on his end, setting his file aside after one last check of his claws and then waving to Keaton.] Right, right, I'll see you in...hopefully not very long, okay?
[Unless Keaton has anything further to say, he's happy to make that his farewell on the video.]
