I've actually not heard of that method! How interesting! I would certainly say to give it a try if you find yourself particularly stuck in your progress. Experimentation never hurts!
There is also the matter of the Prismals' archives being rather...lacking. The moons have government archives, but they have nothing particularly helpful to us, unfortunately.
