[ the saniwa--and konnosuke, perched across his shoulders like a cat--appears to be in caihong at the moment, if the scenery behind him is any indication. he's also frowning faintly, gold eyes drifting away from the video, out toward the rest of the district. after a moment, though, he clears his throat and refocuses, dipping his chin politely in greeting. ]

I don't pretend to be an expert-- [ and konnosuke pipes up cheerfully with: ] Master's expertise is Time, actually. [ the saniwa's lips quirk, and he reaches up to gently close konnosuke's mouth between thumb and forefinger. ] Enough of that, now. [ he releases the fox and shifts. ] --Isn't it odd that a planet and culture that supposedly developed completely separately from Earth is so.. familiar in some ways? [ a gesture to indicate the area he's in. ] Even on Earth sometimes, differing cultures can seem alien to one another, and yet there are very recognizable things here. Maybe it's not just this place. After all, the humanoid shape seems to be pretty universal, given how many people are here from so many different worlds and realities. [ an uncertain head-tilt. ] Maybe it's some kind of.. evolutionary archetype. [ his nose wrinkles up at the bridge. ] I guess that doesn't make a lot of sense.

[ a beat, then he heaves a sigh. konnosuke gently prods his jaw with a paw, and the tired look vanishes, replaced with faint amusement instead. ]

Konnosuke would also like to respectfully request that all of you keep an eye out for delicious tofu dishes. Particularly as I can't cook, and I don't think that any of the swords here can, either.

[ the fox's tail swishes happily. ] I'll trade pets and cuddles for it! [ the comment gets a slightly scandalized sideways glance from the saniwa. ] --When did you become so shameless..?

[ he reaches and ends the video. ]

Oh-- [ the saniwa blinks, then smiles slightly, reaching up to scratch konnosuke's throat. ] Konnosuke isn't a spirit, actually. He's a kind of android. Thank you, though.

Yes! Thank you very much! I'm meant to be based on a pipe fox, but Master says my brothers and I are unique.

Really? He looks so real, though.

[Another smile.]

Well, either way, I stand by my offer. I could even teach you the recipes if you'd like.

He's very real, just.. a different kind of real. [ a beat, expression taking on a pleased note. ] I'm not certain that I'll ever be much of a cook, but I wouldn't say no to learning a few things. Unfortunately, none of my more culinary-inclined spirits arrived with me.

What do you mean by "spirits?"

[She tilts her head a little. She did hear him mention the word "swords" earlier, but that's in the back of her mind at present.]

[While Cordis moon hasn't quite hit yet to introduce Ren to his own impending fox shenanigans, his initial reaction on the video feed is clasping his hands together cutely at the sight of the talking fox. Fluffy animals are always good, as far as he's concerned.]

Oh, your fox is really cute...I think I've seen some restaurants selling tofu, but I can cook a little as well if you're having a really hard time.

[That said, after the moment of distraction, Ren circles back to the actual point of the post.] I was kind of thinking that too, though...they had stuff like coffee and fruit and chocolate at the festival, and I wasn't expecting to see that. Even the animals people are turning into are from Earth, right...?

[He's seen enough people around during Sanguis who've changed to tell that much.]

Thank you! [ konnosuke preens at the attention, tail swishing against the saniwa's throat. the human himself smiles, but it fades a moment later as he considers the rest. ]

Well, they're certainly a part of Earth. I don't know if I'd say that they originate there, given what we've been learning so far.

[Ren waves a hand at that, like it's not that important of a distinction to him.] I mean, then the question just turns into how they got from here to there, or wherever they came from to both planets, doesn't it? I don't think anyone's going to really be able to figure out where they started from...

[It'd need a lot deeper comparison than they could manage while they're just on the one planet.]

I-I can help c-cook somethings. B-Back home I...I did a lot of-of cooking f-for my m-master and-and his-his c-clients...

[ He was sort of forced to do it, but he also enjoyed it when he got the chance to. ]

I-I wonder if-if they have the s-same ingredients...I c-could make some m-mapo t-tofu...if you like s-spicy dishes?

Yes! [ comes the very excited response from a small and thrilled fox.

the saniwa laughs quietly, patting his ears to settle him down. ]

That would be very kind of you if you want to assist Konnosuke that way. Please don't feel obligated, though.

I-I don't! I-I like to-to cook...so if-if you'd like I-I have no problem with h-helping out.

[ He does really enjoy it and Takato might smile a little more on his end. ]

K-Konnosuke is-is really cute. He-he's a kudagitsune, right? [ Definitely not a nine tailed fox, Takato's seen those before and his best friend was one. But Konnosuke's size and overall appearance makes him think a smaller spirit. ]

[okay. first the serious things. then adorable fox robot.]

Honestly, it's kind of a mixed bag for me, since I'm more used to animals being kind of mixed together than they are here. Instead, it's... well, the humanoids that are mixed with animals.

Anyway, while I'm a little rusty at cooking, I've been visiting different restaurants just to try and catch some of the local flavor. If I find anywhere especially good, I'll be sure to let you know.

"Kind of mixed together"? [ the glance is curious and questioning. ] Do you mean animals where you're from have aspects of several that you've seen here?

[ the serious expression fades a moment later, though, as he reaches up to scratch konnosuke's head. the little fox pushes his head into his fingers as he does so. ]

That would be very kind of you, thank you. Konnosuke is a bit of a tofu connoisseur.

Something like that. It’s like... well, we’ve got the occasional normal dog and the occasional normal bear, but they’re definitely not common. You’re more likely to see, say, a polar bear dog or a platypus bear.

And don’t worry. I understand what it’s like to have very particular tastes.

[if anything happened to Konnosuke he would kill everyone on the boat in a fiery explosion.]

[ his eyes widen, clearly fascinated by the notion. platypus bears and polar bear dogs.. how would that have even come about? ] I've never heard of anything like that before.

[ konnosuke perks up again in interest, bell-collar jingling as he tilts his head. ]

Foodies should stick together, right? Master can eat anything, really, so he's no help here.

I don’t really know how it panned out that way, but it’s pretty difficult thinking of it any other way. I mean, it was strange that the Earth King had a bear... that was just a bear. Unfortunately we may never know the truth behind that creature, since it’s rumored the poor thing met a terrible fate after the King’s death.

And yes, we definitely should. After all, it’s easier to try and cover more ground if we trade tips on places to check out.
