[Ace and Luffy are sitting together, and Ace has a serious expression on his face. This is kind of important in his opinion, they've got to figure out who their potential allies and enemies are here. Not that being a pirate is a promise of alliances, or Marines a promise of a threat, but it's still good to have a base to go off of. And to Ace and Luffy, piracy is freedom. And the Marines stand for things far worse.]

So this is a roll call. If you're a pirate, let us know. If you're a Marine? Let us know faster.

[Luffy laughs, waving at the camera. He sticks his little finger into his nose, and thinks for a second.]

I haven't seen marines here, or other pirates. Do people here know what a pirate is? [He laughs again.] We're pirates! And brothers!

[Ace's expression softens considerably, and he smiles. He's weak against Luffy's antics, even more so now that they've been separated and reunited.] Yeah, that's right. And we wanna know who else lived a life of piracy back in their home world. Especially if you're from our home world.

He was the one who proved himself to me. He refused to stop believing, and eventually I came around. Best choice of my life.

If you're not a Marine, and you're not supporting them, you're okay with me for now.

You really hate these guys, huh? Well, I can't exactly say my experiences with authority have been great either, so I can't really blame you.

[burnt_offering]

You know, I wouldn't hate them so much if they just did their job. Or what their job is supposed to be. If they kept people safe and fought pirates? That'd be okay and we'd be honorable enemies. But they're awful. They're murderers, and they support slavery. No one is safe. And the few good ones who wanna change the world for the better get hurt in the process. So yeah, I hate them. And a lot.

[resenting]

Sounds like the sort of world that trash kind and his bitch daughter would want to run, alright... Not surprised to hear that sort of thing goes on in other worlds too.

[burnt_offering]

[Ace's brows furrow and he sighs.] I don't think anywhere is safe from people like that. As long as people have power, and misuse it, there's going to be nasty stuff like that going on.

[resenting]

That sounds about right. The less I have to do with that sort of regime, the happier I am.

[burnt_offering]

And the safer you are too.

Is there anything like that going on here?

[resenting]

I'm not too worried about safety at this point, but I guess I get what you mean.

I haven't seen anything like it yet, but that doesn't mean it's not going on behind the scenes. It's pretty much always behind the scenes anyway, isn't it?

[burnt_offering]

Yeah, that's the problem. Especially in this kind of situation. Back home, the problems were visible if you knew what to look for. But a lot of it got covered up so fast. But not fast enough to keep from leavin' evidence.

Here, it's a little harder to figure out what the people in power are actually up to.

[resenting]

At least it sounds like you're clever enough to think to look for it. Wish I could say the same for a few people back in the world I came here from.

[burnt_offering]

Most people don't wanna see it until it affects them personally anyway. Unless they're the ones getting hurt somehow, a lot of people feel like it's safer to pretend stuff isn't happening.

[resenting]

More convenient to look the other way and pretend it's not your problem, I guess.

Of course, that leaves it to the rest of us to clean up all the problems people like that leave behind. Honestly it's a huge pain in the ass, if you ask me.

[burnt_offering]

That's how it is for a lot of people. No one wants to stick their neck out, I guess. Especially when the blade is real and they could die for interferin'. I won't be that kind of person, though.

It might be a pain, but I'd rather die again than be someone who looks away when I'm needed.

[resenting]

You died before coming here, huh?

[So just like those three, then.]

Pretty sure I'm still alive, but I don't pretend to know how this whole isekai thing actually works.

[burnt_offering]

Yeah, I did. It's not a big deal, I guess. I'm alive here, and that's what counts.

[He sighs.] It's kind of a mess to think about. My brother is two years older than when I last saw him. And everything is confusing.

[resenting]

I'd say something like 'you get used to it', but it's more like 'you have no choice but to get used to it'. It won't change if we've confused about it or not.

[burnt_offering]

You're right. The only thing we can do is keep going. No matter how messed up it is.

[resenting]

Tell you what, though- I ever decide to take up a life of piracy, you brothers will be the first people I call.

[burnt_offering]

If that's what you choose to do, we'll get you set up for a life of rebellion and freedom.

Not that there's a lotta need for that here. It's pretty quiet so far.

Freedom and rebellion, huh... I can't say I dislike the sound of that.
