...I don't mean that in the "he's dead to me" metaphorical sense; I literally watched his soul slowly flicker out and his body, now devoid of its life or conscience but still possessing his memories, become animated with a new sort of malevolence.

This is, in my opinion, the absolute worst way for anyone to die.

My people have always had a unique relationship with death.

Those driven by love or devotion have had their souls linger long past their death, and some people - typically warriors or religious types - offer their bodies in service after their time in the mortal world ends.

We accept this as a way of knowing that some duties and attachments persist even in death.

So to see that same undying loyalty twisted in such a way... you understand, yes?
