Video - Something borrowed

[The feed starts in the rather nondescript living room of one of the apartments new arrivals get directed to when they first make it here. Home decor hasn't yet been a priority since Moran has arrived, and even if it were, he would leave it entirely to his more savvy housemate.

Addressing a video feed is a bit weird, because he is just talking at a machine, but his face is nothing but pleasantly inquisitive. He knows how to hide discomfort.]

I am looking for someone who could possibly point me in the right direction. I wish to have a fan custom made.

It needs to look like this.

[He grabs a fan on the nearby table and opens it, and though trial and error for a few seconds, manages to angle it so the motif is visible.

The fan is dark green silk, with a delicate drawing of a lotus flower and clouds in white on it. After a few seconds, he turns it around to show that the reverse has exactly the same color, except the décoration there is Chinese characters, also written in white. A few more seconds and he closes it and puts it away.]

I need it to be exactly identical, except for the colors which need to be reversed. I would be very grateful if anyone knows of a maker who could accomplish this.

What do the characters mean? (The fan is pretty and of course that catches her eye.)

Let's find a maker first, and then we can work the details out. Yours might be a little difficult to use as a model.

We might be using the same word to refer to different creatures. In my world, dragons are aquatic creatures. They live in lakes and rivers. Yours are more acquainted with fire? That's fascinating.

And also a good reason why they should not be in the library, I would say. As unfortunate as it is.

Maybe, if there are any titles you might be interested in, I would be able to take them out for you.

Yes, all of the dragons from my world are fire breathers. They grow to have great wings and the hue of their scales are as varied as nature itself.

(Drogon has beautiful black scales with hints of crimson. He is also much smaller than he used to be.)

I would like to see one in the water.

(She makes a small sound of assent.)

I'm trying to learn other languages, so if you find any volumes in your native tongue, I would like to see them.

That is extremely interesting. And you said he is here with you? If it is not too presumptuous, would it be possible to meet him?

[He is careful to refer to the dragon the same way she has, since she called him her child and clearly treats him as a lot more than a pet.]

Most dragons are thought to be myths where I am from, so although we have multiple drawings and stories of them, I have never seen an actual one myself. Most of our stories say they do not like to associate with humans.

I will keep an eye out for anything that might be of interest. In fact, I am trying to find a way to disable this automatic translation they have going on. very useful for daily communications of course, but not so much for learning.

If you don't find anyone else, I could make the fan itself and I can manage the calligraphy if I find a brush.

[He's never made a fan before, but for a man who was used to making weapons and mechas, that sort of delicate handiwork is doable.]

You may have to ask another to paint the flower, however.

[He stays on video because he finds it easier.]

If i cannot find a maker for the whole thing, then I will gladly take you up on your offer. I think that in a bind, I could probably paint the flower myself, but I would rather leave it to someone skilled whose profession it is.

[Hornet has yet to really interact with anyone on the network, but this does catch her eye. It's a lovely design and the request makes the spider in her itch to make an attempt. It's been a while since she's made anything, but she has all the confidence that she could pull off at least the silk and all the designs it contains. The rest she's not sure.]

I could make the silk and the requested design but as for the rest, I have no experience constructing the fan itself.

Even if it is just the fabric, it would be a great help. Someone has offered to build the frame. I am sure we could assemble the two.

As long as you don't wish him harm, I don't mind. (Drogon is more important to her than her life. He is the only one - besides Ser Jorah, Missandei, Greyworm, Rhaegal and Viserion - that has been undeniably loyal to her, for good or ill. He has forgiven her too - without her having to ask. Daenerys wants to be worthy of him more than anything.)

They had become like myths too in Westeros. They were thought to be extinct until my three sons hatched in the fire.

And I daresay that letting me meet your child is reward enough, although you may find some of my questioning about him tedious, so I will apologize in advance for that.

My language does require mastering different tones to speak correctly or else one risks saying something very different than one intended even if the sounds are the same. However, it is hard to demonstrate when you would hear my words in your own language, while I hear yours in mine.
