it's annoying how subjective the emotional type is. :P

It's broad because there's not really an easy way to put it, honestly. It's the most specific I can get because a lot of people might feel differently on it. But as for personal opinion: rather than the size of the injury, it's definitely more of the intensity and type. Well, the 'reasoning' behind it is also important.

Well, it might be annoying, but that's just how it is.

It can be. It's not necessarily the case for everyone, though, so it's definitely a ymmv type of situation.
