[Did anyone think Akechi might never show his face online again after that last post? Well, apparently that's not the case, and he's looking quite serious.]

By now, I'm sure a lot of people have heard about the upturn in missing persons cases involving children and teenagers. I know a lot of us try to help the Moon Knights out where we can, so I thought I'd put out a public call for information.

If you've found out anything that might help in solving this case, please, bring it here. This post can serve as a starting point for anyone trying to investigate, instead of making all of us individually interview people for information. I'm sure it'll make things easier on both sides if we don't have a dozen people independently looking for the same leads, after all.

And, don't worry about your contribution going unrewarded. I know the value of information, so if you tell me your name, I'll personally make sure the Moon Knights know if you provided any leads.

That sounds a lot easier. We're currently suspecting the owner of Lunatian Girl of either being involved or having possibly seen the victims, but we'll want to know which one is more likely before we start asking questions.

[ the following day, a message arrives to Akechi's device: ]

bad news: that street is constantly packed. the shop's location makes it difficult to see who's coming and going. to that end, i didn't see any shopkeeper locking up from the outside, so it's a possibility that he's taking up residence in or above the shop.

more importantly, i suspect that there's something supernatural going on that's messing with our senses and ability to observe the place. it's not an exact science, but i can usually get a read on whether or not there are people in an area. where they're at, about how many, that kinda thing.

not that shop. i get nothing from it. idk maybe that's normal security here but i've never experienced it before

That's incredibly unsettling. I know someone who has abilities specifically for mapping and tracking, so I'll ask her how common that is.

Overall, though, it sounds an awful lot like the owner has something to hide. Especially since the customers have been acting strangely. They seem obsessed with their dolls, and something doesn't look right about their skin and eyes. I think there might be some sort of mental influence, possibly even a Chroma drain.

And, while I know this world doesn't have the same associations as my own, the fact that the owner's name is Asmodius doesn't make me feel any better about this.

Have you heard the suspicious rumors, too?

hm... trust your gut on that last point. i'm from another world than most moonblessed and i've found the multiverse has a funny way of echoing certain themes.

i'll keep an eye out, but there's no guarantee that the rest of my senses aren't being messed with, too. that's the feeling i get.

I know there's illusion magic that you don't have to be under Cordis' influence to use. If there's something he's trying to hide, it's entirely reasonable to assume he might be using them.

I think we have enough by now to call this person our prime suspect.

Alas, though, she is a bit older now, probably at least nineteen, maybe twenty.

Instead if you wanted a mastermind criminal to go after I have someone for that.

I'm almost nineteen, if you account for time discrepancies.

I already have a criminal rival, but it is an open relationship. I guess it depends on what that person is like.

Hmm...that sounds more like a genuine enemy than a rival anyway, so I guess my existing rivalry isn't an issue anyway.

Actually, it sounds like someone it would be irresponsible to not keep an eye on.

Oh definitely! Though, anything she's doing will probably be impossible to find out. She might not even be doing anything at the moment, if she isn't completely bored yet.

Maybe things will be different here. Ah, I'm almost excited to see what could happen with more eyes on her ahead of time! To see her plans unravel, to spiral out....

She would probably like that though.

It sounds like you have something of a grudge.

[He sounds understanding, rather than judging. Oh yes, he can very much understand the spiteful desire to watch someone's plans crash and burn around them, for them to realize all their effort and planning was for nothing.]

I have...my own ways of finding out people's secrets, though. Not perfect ones, but I've caught my share of 'untouchable' criminals.

A grudge? No. I just hate her. She is the embodiment of everything I hate.

She is pure Despair.

I am comforted in knowing that Hope does always win though! So, as much as I hate her, I'm not overly concerned about her.

[But he would love to kill her, to shoot her properly this time. To destroy Despair and get revenge. To make up for his mistake. Though... he didn't really mind losing that much. Losing had been the better result after all, at least in the end.]

But I am curious about these methods. Her Talent is an issue, it's quite over powered!

[There's a...slight twitch of his lips at the word 'despair'. It's a feeling he knows well, after all. So well that it's the only status ailment he's capable of inflicting. But...those days are in the past. These days, he does have some semblance of hope, even if it's not strong. It might be difficult to cling to, but it's more than he used to have.]

I understand. I have someone I feel the same way about, though he's...thankfully not here. As much as I'd love to lord how helpless he is without his connections over him, the idea of him being Moonblessed is utterly repulsive and downright horrifying.

My methods, though...call them a trade secret. But what is this talent of hers?

How lucky! At least you don't have to suffer such a thing here.

Hmm... well, she spread so much Despair she destroyed the world! Spread it like a plague, with no end in sight!

I could say she is Super High School Level Despair!

[Though, it was a fitting title, it wasn't her talent. But knowing her talent, would it even help much? The one person who could go up against her wasn't here.]

She can manipulate anyone and everyone into dancing in the palm of her hand.

[He wants to say that that's not hard, his own world is teetering on the edge itself. But that's not really relevant right now.]

I've danced on someone's strings before. I'm quite through with being someone else's puppet, so I think she'll find me to be much more of a challenge.

Are you good at anticipating the actions of people five steps ahead of you?

I find most people boringly predictable, actually. Usually, I'm the one five steps ahead...except in certain cases, but my dear rival has that spot for a reason.

Perhaps you are meant for each other then. Supposedly everything is predictable to her.

She does sound like she'd be a fun challenge, but I don't think I could enjoy a game of cat and mouse with the stakes so high. I prefer adversaries who have a bit of nobility to them, so I can enjoy the chase instead of focusing on the capture.

Oh, then it’s a terrible match, she’s complete trash. Nothing is out of bounds for her. Though, she will at least adhere to her own rules. The only way anyone managed to survive a killing game honestly.

Well, I guess that's one thing she has over the person I want to take revenge on back home. He's such utter scum that the only thing you can trust him for is to be backstabbing filth.

A...killing game, though?

At least three, though maybe four. She manipulated our student council to kill each other to survive, she then murdered my class representative. Ah, but that wasn’t a killing game. She did put her entire class into one though, wiped their memories and gave them motives to try and get away with murder and be the only survivor.

My class was in one as well, in fact, that’s when I did a lot of investigation. You have to solve the murder and win the trial to continue on. Of course the murderer is executed, but if you don’t figure it out everyone else would die instead!

Ah...I take back that favorable comparison. The scum back home might have manipulated people and committed many heinous crimes, but his were mostly a touch more...impersonal.

He's a politician, after all. They see everyone as nothing but pawns on their chessboard.
