So let's say you're trying something new, and I mean super new. You've never done anything like it before...

And I don't mean a sex thing! [JUST TO CUT THAT OFF AT THE PASS.] Like a legit way to make money, a work thing. Would you just keep going at it on your own or ask for help?

[This is her way of asking for help without asking, ha ha ha.]

[ He did kind of tell her to come say this all to his face though, so... ]

Except you did, cause you wanted me to come call you a fart to your face.

[ He was more looking for some kind of fight, but it's not like he knew what to do when he got it. He's not in the habit of assuming everyone around him can throw down, even though a lot of outsiders on this planet seem more than capable of it. ]

[Expecting a fight from Lapis is a bad thing, at least if there is water around.

Also, a good thing that they met in a public space because that means Lapis can't go all out.]

[ And considering he's a fire boy he doesn't even have a type advantage with this one! A true tragedy if a fight went down.

She doesn't look like someone he'd want to actually pick a physical fight with, however. So mostly he's just looking very agitated with how this conversation is going. ]

His voice gets louder, and people are definitely starting to look now. ]

[She's trying to not be as loud as him, especially with the people paying attention to them. But she also wants to see how far she can push this kid.]

There's no fart to it!

[ No matter how reasonable she tries to be with her volume, this boy is a screamer even when he's only slightly agitated. Besides, this whole conversation is ridiculous enough that someone in that crowd is going to be mildly entertained watching. ]

[Words just aren't working, at least that's the train of thought Lapis is taking as she brings a hand up to her mouth and, once again, makes fart noises.

Yes, that is her rebuttal. Fart noises, quite possibly to the enjoyment of some of the gathering crowd.]

[ Okay! That's it!!

Ryuuga points towards the direction of the mall's entrance, face going slightly red. It's hard to tell if it's embarrassment or anger (or a terrifying mix of the two). ]

You want to fight so much? Meet me outside!

[ His expression changes slightly, and as angry as he is, he has the sense to double check. ]

Can you even fight?

[ Because he has literally no other way to try and solve this problem if not.

He should consider working on his conflict resolution skills considering that. ]

I'm not going to fight you, you're human.

[That and her best weapon is right here. The big old fountain they're by, with all its water.

Also, she just doesn't want to fight.]

That and I don't want to get in trouble for drowning a kid.

[ She's only partly right about that one. ]

Drowning a kid?

[ The comment doesn't make a lot of sense to him, considering he doesn't know her water associations, and also doesn't think of himself as a kid. You'd think having to argue with actual children that he's not that old he would actually embrace this view on him, but-- ]

Are you talking about me?

[ He sounds mildly offended. ]

You don't look like you're any older than I am!

[ She also doesn't look human, so it's definitely a weird assumption on his part. ]

I don't see any other children picking a fight.

[She's going to cross her arms over her chest now and sigh.]

I'm also a good few thousand years older than you, so don't go assuming I'm fresh out of the ground or something like that.

[She just sounds annoyed by this whole thing, if he keeps this up she will have to pull some water from the fountain and put him in his place.]

[ He looks at her skeptically. It's hard to imagine some sort of ancient being making fart noises at other people, but then again he's met an alien who is who knows how old that wasn't always the epitome of maturity.

Still... ]

There's no way you are. And even if you are... what are you some kind of kid for your species?

[ Clearly she isn't, but he's not taking being called a kid well. ]

My species doesn't have children, we come out all ready to do what we're made to do.

[She'll call him whatever she wants to call him. Be glad she switched to kid and stopped calling him a fart.]

Also, I stopped keeping track after five thousand years.

[ Something he should consider, but hasn't in his agitation.

Something she says gives him pause in his readiness to fight though. Enough that he's asking a different question despite the fact that he visibly balks at the age she gives him. ]

"What you're made to do"? The hell do you mean by that?

I mean something like this.

[She'll turn to look at the fountain now, very obviously turning her back to him and with a gesture a pillar of water (much bigger then what a fountain sprayer could do) rises from the fountain.]

[ Almost on defensive reflex, as if his body knows that the most comedic outcome would be to guide that water right down on top of his fool head, Ryuuga steps back away from the fountain.

It's not the wildest thing he's ever seen someone do, and he's been on this planet too long to be overly surprised by much.

But it suddenly occurs to him-- ]

You were made to make fountains?

[ That seems like a weird life purpose.

He's clearly missing something big here. ]

No, and anything more I could show you will get me into trouble.

[She's moving to wipe her hands down the front of her pants and the water just... sploosh, back down with a bit of spray back on them and anyone else near the fountain.]

Do you know what terraforming is?

[ And there it is, the water he was inevitably going to be hit with, but at least it was just a light spray. He still makes an undignified, non-verbal sound at being sprayed, and brushes at his pants like he can somehow wipe off the water.

He's definitely scowling when he looks back up at her. ]

I have no idea what that is.

[ Oof, that was said with more conviction than admitting ignorance should ever warrant. ]

{... Wow, she wasn't expecting that answer, so one can imagine the look she's giving Banjou conveys how much she wasn't expecting it.]

I used to use water to destroy planets.

[Said in a matter of fact tone.]

[ No one expects the full extent of Ryuuga's ignorance, and yet...

The reply does get a change in expression from him at least, his jaw clenching as the realization hits.

As does something a lot more personal than Lapis realizes. Look, you never know someone's backstory on first meeting. You never know who has or hasn't fought extraterrestrials bent on destroying your world. Though in Ryuuga's case it goes beyond that, considering he was primed from before birth to aid in that planetary destruction.

The point being this whole thing is hitting home in a surprising way. ]

Oi... something like that you can't blame on being made to do it.

[ His fist clench at his sides, and for all he was demanding a fight earlier, he looks a lot more ready to take a serious swing right now. ]

That's how it is for Gems though.

[She doesn't care about his history or even the fact he looks like he wants to fight. Of course, if it turns to a fight, she'll fight.]

And I'm well aware of what I did, and that I don't do it anymore.

Who the hell cares about how it is for Gems? And is not doing it anymore undoing the fact that you did it before?

[ There are people around. Keep that mantra in mind. She's not actively doing anything wrong right now, and as much as he wants to fight it's not worth dragging in other people and getting someone hurt.

He takes a deep breath, flexing his fingers as he tries to avoid doing anything rash. ]

Were there people on the planets you destroyed?
