I did! It was a codename I took from an online handle.
I use "Otacon."
It stands for "Otaku Convention." I really liked anime back then.

I've been considering this, actually, since I don't have a name.

I think nicknames are best chosen by those around you, as they're a bit special, but choosing a new name for yourself could either simply be something you like the sound of, or something with a meaning you feel suits you. :)

It wasn't something I had picked, but I was part of an organization that assigned callsigns for sensitive communications.
Mine was "Mercy", likely because of my demeanor as a doctor. I'm still known by it, thanks to the media, but of course my name is Angela so it is nowhere close to being related.

People have called me things like Angie, Ange, Doc— then typical terms of endearment as general nicknames in other languages. They just sort of happen.

Are you looking to find something new to refer to yourself by?
If so, may I ask why?

Weeeeeeell, it occurs to me, darling, that on this poor deprived planet, this has yet to become common knowledge!
And so what better opportunity to ensure we fabulous world-hoppers, yea, we MOST MAGNIFICENT of globe-trotters get up to speed on a couple of household names???
As for me, dear!
You could call it a nickname. You could call it a business name, you could call it a brand name! But as a matter of fact, I have, indeed, given myself an additional name - "M-T-T"!
Short for "Mettaton"!!! ☆☆☆
Not quite as rrrrrrobust, no, but it does fit WAYYYYYYY more easily onto a branding logo!!!

It was never something that I needed to perform my duties. It does make introductions to people here awkward, though.

I go by Angela. :) Or Doctor Ziegler, if the situation calls for it.
I don't expect anyone to call me "Mercy", especially not when I have no need for obscuring my identity or transmissions.
I'm not exactly on any missions here, haha.

My! Congratulations!
Are you going to be singing or dancing? Or something else?

( This is her polite way of asking if she needs it to be saucy or not. )

Not at the moment, no. I suppose I'm not particularly attached to the idea, so I was considering asking for suggestions from others. I've also thought about allowing people to pick their own use-name for me if they like.

Your question came at a good time, it seems! I'm sure I'll be reading the other responses here.

Are you choosing a new name for yourself? Is it going to be Sea Witch?

[Please say it's going to be Sea Witch.]

I have a very, very good memory, so I think it would probably be fine. Perhaps it could be an experiment.

At home, I'm a type of priest called a saniwa, so most people just call me that.

Ain't sure if aliases count, but back at my old job my team and I went by job title over real names. I was the engineer, so I'm either "Engineer" or "Engie."

It was a hard rule for a few years, before we stopped caring about it. My real name's on company patents, and we had a couple local legends in our crew anyhow. But we were so used to the on-base names by then that it pretty much stuck.

It certainly doesn't bother me, but I think some people find it troubling to use a title.

The Spy, though? Really? I thought that spies were generally not meant to admit what they are.

The pleasure is all mine, Fish.
It's quite a cute nickname! I like it.

"Triple threat" sounds like a vast underestimation of someone; I wouldn't think it's accurate either.
People are capable of so much more!
Dare I ask about the "other things"?

Oh boy.
Anime is a type of animation that comes out of Japan. It has a unique style and different themes than western or European animated media. Usually more adult oriented, but there's all kinds of genres.
Otaku is just someone who is really obsessed with anime, like I was.
I've recovered now.

Every time I enter a new world I'll either be given, or create a new name. I try and be mindful of what would fit within that place, but not always.

[Well, she's got a LOT of names, but none of them she technically gave herself. Usako, meatball head, odango, Sailor Moon... had she given herself ANY nickname?]

Um, well, I never gave myself a nickname, but I've given plenty of people nicknames.
